As many emerging human infections are caused by viruses, laboratory-acquired viral infection will become more common. However, additional knowledges is needed, including actual incidence, disinfectant, and prevention. Although the general biosafety principles of viruses do not differ from those of other microorganisms, biosafety guidelines and programs are not immutable and could vary according to virus and laboratory environment. Most laboratory-acquired viral infections reported in the literature were caused by violation of biosafety principles. (Ann Clin Microbiol 2017;20:-34)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the material characteristics and strength properties of concrete mixed with wastewater sludge, and to evaluate the leaching of environmentally harmful heavy metals from the wastewater sludge itself and from hardened concrete mixed with wastewater sludge. For this purpose, a reference mix with W/C ratio of 0.45 was used and the replacement proportion of wastewater sludge was varied with ratios of 0, 30, 50, 70 and 100% by volume of coarse aggregate in the reference mix. The variations of compressive and splitting tensile strength, workability and unit weight of concrete were considered. Test results showed that the strengths and unit weight decreased with increase in proportion of wastewater sludge replaced, but workability increased. Leaching test results showed that there would be no environmentally harmful problem from using wastewater as substitutes of coarse aggregates in concrete.

Linux cluster Server makes a high performance PC cluster system, and provides scalablity and availability as compared with an expensive single server. In this paper, we design and implement a VOD streaming service system to serve video and audio streaming services on the Linux cluster serve. Our Streaming server supports the MS Window Media Format based on the RTSP streaming protocol.

In this paper, we propose a new content-aware load balancing technique based on histogram equalization, which finds a workload characterization of cluster web servers and equally assigns the workload to each server node using hashing and its histogram transformation. As the workload, we consider the number of requests for each file and the size of the file, which are extracted from web log in cluster web servers. To show the efficiency of our load balancing technique, we compare it with a traditional Round-Robin and a workload-aware load balancing(WARD) by simulation with respect to the load balancing efficiency.

Background: Diagnosis of nontuberculous mycobacterium (NTM) is challenging, and clinical, radiological and microbiological criteria should be met. Traditionally,culture results on solid media have been reported semi-quantitatively, but no study exists regarding the clinical significance of low-colony count culture reports. The authors of the present study analyzed the clinical significance of low-colony count specimens of NTM with a greater than three-year follow-up period. Methods: A total of 341 clinical isolates were evaluated among the isolates at Seoul National University Hospital and Seoul National University Borame Hospital from October 2005 to September 2006. Colony count less than 50 was considered a low-colony count specimen. Identifications of NTM from all the isolates were performed using a DNA chip (PCR reverse hybridization,LG Life Science, Korea). Clinical significance was analyzed by reviewing the medical records of patients with greater than three years of follow-up data after NTM isolation from respiratory samples. Results: NTM lung disease was observed in 27.0% of the patients with low-colony count specimens among 167 patients with respiratory samples, and 70.4% of the patients were treated. The low-colony count patients had less NTM lung disease, longer incubation period, and less acid fast bacilli-positivity than patients with a colony count greater than 50. Conclusion: The prevalence of NTM lung disease with a low-colony count specimen was greater than 25%. In a clinical setting, NTM lung disease should not be excluded only on the basis of a low-colony count.
침전지내장형 상분리 산화구공정에 의한 하수 고도처리특성 평가

Phased isolation intrachannel clarifier ditch process developed in this study is an enhanced biological nutrient removal process employing two ditches with intrachannel clarifiers. Bench-scale phased isolation ditch process was used to evaluate the system performance on municipal wastewater and detailed assessment of internal behavior in a ditch and each reactions. When the system was operated at the HRTs of 6∼12hours, SRTs of 9∼31 days, and cycle times of 4hours, the system showed removals of BOD, TN, and TP as high as 88∼97%, 73∼78%, and 65∼90%, respectively. The internal behavior were well matched on each reactions such as nitrification, denitrification, and phosphorus release and uptake. As the SRT became longer, TN removal increased gradually, whereas TP removal decreased contrarily. However, the system was capable of producing an effluent TP concentration 1㎎/L or less even at longer SRTs except the case of solids discharge by malfunction of intra-clarifier occurred by its geometrical limit. The system performance slightly decreased by hydraulic shock loading(increasing of influent flowrate and decreasing of system HRT). However, the higher system performance could be achieved again after four cycles. Thus, the system reliability could be successfully achieved short-term hydraulic shock loading that occurred in medium- and small-sized wastewater treatment plants suffering fluctuation of influent quality and flowrate during wet season.

Subdural empyema is a neurosurgical the mortality of which continues to be as high as 40% in mordern reported series. It is also a curable lesion, and the outcome of treatment has been demonstrated to be directly related to the promptness of diagnosis and appropriate surgical drainage. Recently, we have operated upon two cases of intracranial subdural empyema secondary to acute facial furuncle and postoperative craniectomy. Reviewing these two cases and other literatures, we are going to describe about cases, symptoms and signs, and methods of diagnosis and treatment of subdural empyema.
