최세종 동아대학교 인문과학대학 영어영문학과 1996 동아영어영문학 Vol.12 No.-

This paper is concerned with the semantic analysis of 'let-constructions' utterances containing let which seem to have the force of imperatives. The semantic analysis of let-constructions proposed here is based on the analysis of imperatives proposed by Davies(1986), Clark(1991, 1993) and Wilson & Sperber(1986,1988) Davies(1986) claims that let-constructions are syntactically identical to imperatives except for two things : first, they allow the option of contracting let us to let's, and second, the form with let's exhibits some peculiarities which suggest that it may be developing into a separate introductory marker. If this development continued, English has three distinguishable constructions used to present potentialities : imperatives, let-constructions with let, and let-constructions with let's. Wilson & Sperber (1986,1988) suggest that to utter an imperative with propositional content P is to indicate that P represents a thought entertained as a description of a state of affairs in a potential and desirable world. Clark(1991) argues that there are three semantically distinct linguistic forms which have to be recognized : imperative with let as their main verb, let which functions as a marker of general potentiality and desirability, and let's which functions as a marker of potentiality and desirability from the speaker's point of view. To sum up, they suggest that let-constructions is involved in the utterance meaning about propositional attitude information. Their studies, however, have caused the interpretation of let-constructions to be ambiguous. To reduce the inadequacy of their ambiguity, this paper classifies the utterance meaning of let-constructions into two classes : [+COMMAND] and [-COMMAND] in terms of the discourse functions which have the illocutionary forces of let-utterances.

      • AHP를 이용한 항공기 엔진 수리 업체 선정에 관한 연구

        최세종,함범희,윤문길 한국경영과학회 1998 한국경영과학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.- No.1

The maintenance and overhaul cost of aircraft jet engine is more than the fifty percent of the total maintenance cost in the airline industries. In general, most of airlines depute the engine overhaul job to the external contractors having professional skill and specialized equipments. Therefore, each airline has a problem to select an appropriate contractor for managing the engine overhaul job. In the contractor selection process, some different kinds of evaluation criteria should be considered such as a technical skill, a reliability and an economy. However, it is very hard to select the suitable one reflecting all of these criteria simultaneously. In this paper, we suggest the AHP methodology to solve the problem which provides a useful, simple and powerful tool for dealing with the engine overhaul planning.

계층분석방법을 이용한 항공기 기체 MRO 업체 선정요인에 관한 연구

        최세종,김우진,Choi, Sejong,Kim, Woojin 한국항공운항학회 2015 한국항공운항학회지 Vol.23 No.4

Airframe maintenance is regarded the most important maintenance action in airlines as the aircraft is the most valuable asset in their operation though the volume of airframe maintenance is the last in MRO market. In the selecting process of airframe MRO provider many kinds of evaluation criteria should be considered such as quality, expenses, TAT, capability, and customer support. This paper will suggest the way to select the airframe MRO in airlines and MRO business sectors using AHP.

The aim of this paper is to introduce Sperber and Wilson's Relevance Theory. Sperber and Wilson(1986) suggest how Man successfully communicate in their Relevance Theory. Relevance Theory is to develop Maxim of Relevance which Grice(1975) introduced in Conversational Implicature. And they suggest that with the code model of communication their ostensive-inferential communication model can be regulated by the Principle of Relevance. According to them, Utterance Meanings are determined by their communication model as follows : 1. Every utterance has the underdetermnacies of its interpretation. 2. Natural language expressions are encoded as logical forms by linguistic semantics. Propositional forms are decoded by pragmatic processes such as inference. These forms are interpreted as true or false by real semantics. 3. Contextual implication are assumed by inferential variables. Utterance meanings are derived from Contextual Implication, based on the criterion of consistency with the principle of relevance. 4. The presupposition of the first interpretation from contextual implication is selected as the best utterance meaning of speaker's intention. 5. The selected utterance meanings are interpreted explicitly or implicitly. In this point, A lot of pragmatists apply their Relevance Theory in the several studies. In order to get to a complete understanding of the properties of human verbal communication, we should pay more attention to the inferential model of communication.

Ten AOC(Air Operation Certificate) holders certified by MOLIT of Korea are operating their own maintenance training program. Though the maintenance training program is approved by the same authority, the contents of the program are different even in the mandatory training courses among AOC holders. The survey interview showed that the maintenance training in mandatory training should have the same contents and requirements. Throughout the survey and focus group discussion, this paper suggests the list and contents of the initial mandatory training and the list, contents and interval for the recurrent mandatory training. This paper also suggests how to implement the on-line training program for recurrent mandatory training to keep the quality of the airline maintenance training program.

The aim of this paper is to interpret the optimal meaning of utterances in terms of relevance theory proposed by Sperber & Wilson (1986). The theory is developing the maxim of relevance which Grice (1975) suggested in "Logic and Conversation". In their theory, they suggest that human ostensive-inferential communication including the code model of communication is regulated by the Principle of Relevance. The linguistic forms of utterances generally underdetermine their utterance meanings. While many pragmatic theories appeal to sets of rules, maxims or conventions to explain how this underdeterminacy is contextually overcome, they claim that the principle of relevance is enough on its own to explain how linguistic from and background knowledge interact to determine verbal expressions. According to them, Optimal Utterance Meanings are determined by their communication model as follows: 1.Every utterance has the underdeterminacies of its interpretation. 2.Natural language expressions are encoded as logical forms by linguistic semantics. Propositional forms are decoded by pragmatic processes such as inference. These forms are interpreted as true or false by real semantics. 3.Contextual implication are assumed by inferential variables. Utterance meanings are derived from Contextual Implication, based on the criterion of consistency with the principle of relevance. 4.The presupposition of the first interpretation from contextual implication is selected as the best utterance meaning of speaker's intention. 5.The selected utterance meanings are interpreted explicitly or implicitly. In this point, a lot of pragmatists apply their Relevance Theory to the several studies. In order to get a complete understanding of the properties of human verbal communication, we should pay more attention to the inferential model of communication.

The aim of this paper is to introduce the utterance mtrepretation based on relevance theory, Sperber & Wilson's relevance theory is to develop Conversational Implicature which Grice(1975) introduced. They suggests that the urrterance interpretation should be based on inferance by assumption and context effects, that is, like ostensive-inference communication model and can be regulated by the Principle of Relevance. The linguistic form of an utterance generally underdetermines its interpretation. While many pragmatic theories appeal to complex sets of rules, maxims or conventions to explain how this linguistic underdeterminacy is contextually overcome, Sperber and Wilson claim that the principle of relevance is enough on its own to explain how linguistic form and background knowledge interact to determine verbal comprehension: in order to understand an utterance, it must have one and only one interpretation consistent with the fact that the speaker intended it to be relevant to the effort side. In this case, the interpretation is consistent with the principle of relevance, the meaning best consistent with the particular criterion of the principle. The speaker's task is to make sure that the interpretation she intends to convey is consistent with the principle. The hearer's task is to find the interpretation which is consistent with the principle of relevance, otherwise, he runs the risk of misunderstanding the utter or not understanding at all. They also analyse the meaning interpretation of the imperative, one of the non-declarative forms as descriptions of states of affairs in potential and desirable worlds The Relevance Theory is proposed as a theory of pragmatics that can more widely extends the range of the interpretation of all the utterances in the situation described than the tradtional pragmatic theories by the Principle of Relevance,
