This study deals with the Heemangji project which has been started since 2018 in Incheon. Deobuleo community project is an urban regeneration supporting project of Incheon and Heemangji project is a preliminary project to reinforce residents’ capabilities before the Deobuleo community project or other urban regeneration projects. The results of this study are as followed. Firstly, Heemangji project became accepted as an effective means for having regular community gathering and reinforcing residents’ capabilites through operating a town center and posting an aid group to each sites. Secondly, through the community research and analysis program, residents’ were able to share the community issues and visions and by carring out small-size works directly, residents’ could have opportunities to develop to the Deobuleo community project. Thirdly, There were some obstacles to proceed the Heemangji project such as progressing in a short-period without full understanding both public institutions and residents, setting an stiff standard of execution of the budget and leading by aid groups not residents. Fourthly, it turned out that H/W plans were difficult to implement in spite of both S/W and H/W plans were set in the every sites. Therefore the operational instructions should be flexible enough to match each sites’ condition and various residents’ requirements. Lastly, Heemangji project is not sufficient to prepare for developing to full-size urban regeneration project because some sites were mainly leaded by support groups. In order to be sustainable, the community activists or leaderships should be raised and it should be specified in the subscription guide. This study was conducted to figure out ways of operating the Heemangji project effectively and to seek for solutions to connect to the full-scaled urban regeneration projects. This study would be meaningful to understand that Heemangji project is an important step for the successful urban regeneration but it still has some vulnerable points.

The objective of this study was conducted to investigate growth and development status of infants fed soy-based formulas over 3 months. The height and weight were measured and Z-scores were calculated by using standard of the same age groups. Their mothers were interviewed using questionnaires including general and environmental characteristics, total food intakes, soy based formula intakes and Ewha infant development screening test. Main results were as follows: 1) Nutrient intake levels of subjects were similar to or more than the level of Korean Recommended Dietary Allowances except for intakes of vitamin E (79.89% RDA), and the average status of nutrient intakes of infants were fairly good. 2) Z-scores of height for age (HAZ) and Z-scores of weight for age (WAZ), Kaup index, WLI and Ewha Infant Developmental Screening Test score of subjects were in the normal growth range. 3) There were no significant differences among soy based formula intake percentile groups in HAZ, WAZ, Kaup index, WLI and Ewha Infant Developmental Screening Test score. 4) Total energy intake was positively correlated with HAZ (p < 0.01), WAZ (p < 0.01), and WLI (p < 0.05) in infants less than 12 month. Also, soy based formula energy intake was positively correlated with HAZ (p < 0.05) in infants less than 12 month. However, energy and soy based formula intake levels of infants over 12 month were not significant among variables. Considering results of this study, infants fed soy-based formulas over 3 months showed normal growth and development status. Further studies are needed to evaluate longterm growth and development in infants fed soy based formulas. (Korean J Community Nutrition 9(5) : 555 ~ 565, 2004)
남성 근로자의 혈중 항산화 영양소 상태와 대사증후군 인자와의 관계

The principal objective of this study was to evaluate the association between plasma antioxidant levels and metabolic syndrome in male workers, and to provide basic information regarding the control and prevention of metabolic syndrome. We analyzed 163 male workers who had participated in annual medical examinations from January to December 2007. The subjects were classified into normal and metabolic syndrome groups according to the NCEP-ATP III criteria and the Asia-Pacific criteria for waist circumference. Anthropometric parameters, lifestyles, blood lipid profiles, and antioxidant levels were evaluated. As compared to the normal group, the metabolic syndrome group evidenced significantly higher plasma levels of α-tocopherol(p<0.05) and retinol(p<0.05), but significantly lower plasma levels of lycopene(p<0.05) and β-carotene(p<0.05). This tendency was found to be predominantly attributable to increases in the number of metabolic syndrome components. In our simple regression analysis, higher plasma levels of α-tocopherol(β=0.001, p<0.01) and retinol(β=0.021, p<0.001) were associated with significantly higher risks of metabolic syndrome, but lycopene(β=-1.499, p<0.01) and β-carotene(β=-0.048, p<0.01) were associated with significantly lower risks of metabolic syndrome. Retinol(β=0.013, p<0.05) and β-carotene(β=-0.044, p<0.01) were associated significantly with metabolic syndrome, when adjusted for age and BMI. These data indicate that the plasma levels of α-tocopherol, retinol, lycopene, and β-carotene are associated with metabolic syndrome. Specifically, low lycopene and β-carotene levels in the plasma appear to increase the risk of metabolic syndrome. Therefore, proper nutritional education programs for male workers are required to increase dietary intakes of antioxidant vitamins. Further studies will be necessary to determine whether antioxidant levels can be utilized as a predictive or a preventive factor.
