        Synovial Cyst in the Cervial Region Causing Severe Myelopathy

        The authors describe a case of an 80-year-old man with a gradual weakness of the lower extremities not linked to any known traumatic episode over the 2 weeks before admission. CT scan and MRI of the spine revealed a cystic formation, measuring about 1cm in diameter, at C7-T1 at the left posterolateral site at the level of the articular facet. During surgery, the mass appeared to be in the ligamentum flavum at the level of the articular facet and was in contact with the dura mater. After the removal of the mass, there was an immediate and significant improvement of the patient's symptoms. Histopathologic examination showed the cyst to be composed of nonspecific degenerative fibrous tissue with mild inflammatory change and confirmed the cyst as a synovial cyst. Synovial cyst in the cervical region is a very rare lesion causing myelopathy. Surgical removal of the cyst and decompression of the spinal cord results in good neurological recovery.

      • Evaluation of SPECT Analysis in Patients withTransient Global Amnesia

        Objectives: This study investigated alterations in regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) in patients with transient global amnesia (TGA) using statistical parametric mapping 99 (SPM99). Methods: Noninvasive rCBF measurements using 99mTc-ethyl cysteinate dimer (ECD) SPECT were performed on 8 patients with TGA who have ongoing symptoms and 17 age matched controls. The relative rCBF maps in patients with TGA and controls were compared. Results: In patients with TGA, significant decreased rCBF was found along the L superior temporal extending to L parietal region of the brain and L thalamus. There were areas of increased rCBF in the R temporal, R frontal region and R thalamus. Conclusion: We could demonstrate decreased perfusion in left cerebral hemisphere and increased perfusion in right cerebral hemisphere in patients with TGA using SPM99. The imbalanced change of rCBF between bilateral cerebral hemisphere in patients with TGA might suggest that imbalanced neuronal activity between the bilateral hemispheres may have strong relationship to the pathogenesis of the TGA. For quantitative SPECT analysis in TGA patients, we recommend SPM99 rather than the ROI method because of its definitive advantages. 영어논문

      • 초등학교 수학수업에서 데시블록의 활용 방안 연구

        21C 사회에 필요한 수학 교육은 사실, 절차, 규칙, 공식 등을 기계적으로 암기 하는 것이 아니라 개념적으로 이해하고 수학적 탐구를 수행하는데 필요한 사고 과 정을 발달시키는 것이라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 수학수업은 연역적 문제풀이보다는 학생들이 수학적 아이디어를 발견하고 탐구해 보는 다양한 경험을 할 수 있도록 구성되어야 한다. 이런 인식 속에서 교과부에서도 수학교육선진화 방안을 제시하 며 초등학교에서는 각종 교구를 활용한 체험 놀이 중심의 선진형 수학교실 구축을 하나의 방안으로 제시하였다. 수학교육에서 다양한 교구를 이용한 활동을 계속 중시되고 있다고 할 수 있다. 다양한 수학 교구 중 패턴블록은 수, 연산, 기하, 측정, 패턴 등 수학의 다양한 분 야에 적용될 수 있는 교구 중 하나이다. 따라서 패턴 블록의 수학적 가치를 확장 시키기 위해 고안된 데시블록을 소개하고 이를 활용하는 방안을 탐색하는 것은 수 학의 각 분야의 개념을 탐구하는데 유용하게 쓰일 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 데시 블록의 특성을 살펴보고 초등학교 수학수업에서 데시 블록을 활용하는 방안을 탐색하여 보았다. 본 연구를 토대로 앞으로 수학교실에서 좀 더 다양한 교구를 사용하여 학생들의 흥미와 성취를 높이고 수학적 개념 형성 에 도움이 되는 수학교구의 개발과 활용을 기대한다.

        우리나라 양식 쥐치, Stephanolepis cirrhifer에서 분리된 비브리오의 특성

        본 연구는 실험을 위해 저수온에서 순치 중이던 쥐치에서 체표의 백탁을 보이며 폐사하여 그 원인을 밝히고자 하였다. 순수 배양된 균체를 확인하여 계대 배양하여 생화학적 성상과 16S rRNA유전자와 recA 유전자의 염기서열 분석 결과 Vibrio anguillarum으로 나타났다. 빈사어 (체장 4~6 ㎝)의 약 30%는 체표 백탁 증상을 보였으며 약 10%는 폐사하였다. 이에 약제 감수성 시험 후, oxolinic acid 200 ppm을 1시간 동안 약욕시켰으며, 2일 경과 후 폐사가 중단되고 증상이 호전되었다. An epidemic was occurred in Stephanolepis cirrhifer during acclimation in laboratory tanks (water temperature was about 17℃). Diseased fish showed an unique external sign, large cloudy skin surface. We investigated the cause of the disease, and isolated one pure cultured bacterium, that was identified as Vibrio anguillarum by biochemical analysis and sequence analysis of the 16S rRNA and recA genes. During the outbreak, about 30% of S. cirrhifer showed the large cloudy skin surface, and approximately 10% of the stocked fish died. Fish were effectively cured by treatment with oxolinic acid.

      • Thermocouple을 이용한 Buchanan Plugger 표면의 온도상승 분석

        This study was performed to confirm the actual temperature rise on the surface of Buchanan plugger by evaluating the temperature rise on the surface of it, the peak temperature of pluggers of various size using thermocouple. The heat carrier system 'System B Heatsource' (Model 1005, Analytic Technologies, USA) and the Buchanan pluggers of F, FM, M and ML sizes are used for this study. The temperature was set to 200 which Dr. Buchanan's "Continuous wave of condensation" technique recommended on digital display and the power level on it was set to 10. The touch mode was used. Five thermocouples were placed in direct contact with the surface of each size of Buchanan's pluggers at 1 ㎜ increments from the tip to the 4 ㎜ length of shank. Each thermocouple was secured with cyanoacrylate adhesive and orthodontic resin block. The two wire leads of each thermocouple were connected to the appropriate channels of Data Logger. This was configured to simultaneously record input from the five thermocouples. The heat control spring was touched for 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 seconds, and the temperature rise on the surface of the pluggers were measured at 1 sec intervals for more than 5 seconds with an accuracy of 0.01. Ten trials was determined for each plugger. The average of temperature rise and standard deviation was calculated for each size of plugger. The data were statistically analyzed by one-way ANOVA to determine their significance. The results as follows. 1. The position at which the temperature peaked was approximately at 1∼2㎜ far from the tip of Buchanan plugger (p<0.01). 2. The peak temperature was 215.25±2.28℃ in F plugger, 185.94±2.19℃ in FM plugger, 169.51±9.12℃ in M plugger, and 160.79±1.27℃ in ML plugger and the peak temperature was highest in F type and followed by, in descending order, FM type, M type. ML type showed the lowest peak temperature (p<0.01). This results suggest that the actual temperature on the surface of the pluggers does not correlate well with the temperature set on digital display. Heat concentrates around the tip. The larger plugger reveals lower temperature rise relatively.

        열전대(thermocouple)를 이용한 Buchanan Plugger 표면의 온도상승 분석
