A gradient-index (GRIN) substrate is proposed as a novel signal propagation medium of planar optics. The GRIN substrate provides planar-optics designers not only a 3-dimensional signal propagation space, but also an additional smart optical functioning component like as a diffraction-limited imaging lens. The novel and smart functioning of the GRIN substrate was confirmed by experiment on imaging of an input signal to multiple destinations. 광신호 상호연결 및 입력물체의 결상을 위한 기존의 평판광학계에서는 굴절률이 일정한 유리기판을 광신호 전달매체로 사용하였는데 반하여, 본 연구에서는 물매-굴절률(gradient-index) 분포를 갖는 기판을 사용하는 새로운 개념의 평판광학계를 제안하였다. 물매기판에 의한 결상특성을 근축광선 추적에 의해 분석하였으며, 입력 광신호의 위치에 따라 결상된 위치가 변하는 실험결과로부터 새로운 결상광학계로의 응용 가능성을 검증하였다. 그리고, 물매기판을 이용한 평판광학계가 하나의 입력신호를 여러 출력면으로 동시에 분배할 수 있는 광신호처리계로도 응용될 수 있음을 제시하였다.

Phase separated liquid crystal in PDLC(polymer dispersed liquid crystal) has a characteristic behavior of alignment by the external electric field. There are three kinds of methods for fabrication of PDLCs, PIPS(polymerization induced phase separation), TIPS(thermally induced phase separation),and SIPS(solvent induced phase separation). We have made PDLC samples by using the TIPS method and studied the characteristics of phase separation, We have used 5CB(K15), 8CB(K24), and 10CB(K30) as liquid crystal, and PMMA and PVEM as polymer. Phase separation characteristics according to the rate of temperature cooling were observed by a polarization microscope, and quantitatively measured by light scattering method.
10 Gbps Transimpedance Amplifier-Receiver for Optical Interconnects

A transimpedance amplifier (TIA)-optical receiver (Rx) using two intersecting active feedback system with regulated-cascode (RGC) input stage has been designed and implemented for optical interconnects. The optical TIA-Rx chip is designed in a 0.13 μm CMOS technology and works up to 10 Gbps data rate. The TIA-Rx chip core occupies an area of 0.051 mm2 with power consumption of 16.9 mW at 1.3V. The measured input-referred noise of optical TIA-Rx is 20 pA/√Hz with a 3-dB bandwidth of 6.9 GHz. The proposed TIA-Rx achieved a high gain-bandwidth product per DC power figure of merit of 408 GHzΩ/mW.
감잎(Diospyros kaki folium) 으로부터 분리한 Polyphenol 화합물의 카드뮴 제거효과

In order to investigate the removal effect of cadmium by polyphenol compound extracted from persimmon leaves(Diospyros kaki folium), animal test was done. Two fractions such as F-1 and F-2 from persimmon leaves were compared with their safety and function. The food intake of group F-1 and F-2 considerably decreased within 1% level. Cadmium addition influenced to rat growth(a tested animal), but food efficiency ratio(FER) wasn't shown any considerable difference in F-1 and F-2, as compared to the control. Cadmium content of liver, kidney and femur considerably decreased within 1% level in F-1 and F-2, compared to the control, cadmium content of liver decreased 25% in F-1, 28% in F-2 also decreased 22% and 25% in kidney. In femur, also decreased 53% in F-1 and 59% in F-2 respectively. The test of cadmium content in feces indicate that the content considerably increased within 1% level in both group F-1 and F-2, as compared to the control(42% in F-1, 54% in F-2). As shown the above results, have seen the removal effect of cadmium by polyphenol compound.
