        “20대 여자들은 남편을 잘 만나면 호강하고 살게 된다는 것쯤은 안다. 그러나 ‘당당한 여성’과 ‘남녀평등’이라는 말들은 능력 있는 남자를 찾는 젊은 여자들에게 죄책감을 안겨 준다. 대체 ‘조건’이라는 말만 들어도 서슬을 세우는 여자들에게 남편의 부와 지위를 함께 누리는 것이 당당하지 못한 것이고 불평등한 것이라고 말해준 사람이 누구인가. 앞뒤 가릴 것 없이 일단 결혼이라는 것은 여자에게 절대적으로 불리한 제도다. 특히 한국에서의 결혼은 여자들이 희생을 각오해야 지속 가능한 것이다. 어쩔 수 없이 노비제도에 준하는 힘든 결혼생활을 하면서 여자가 결혼으로 덕 보는 게 없다면 너무 억울하지 않은가. 남편이 가지고 있는 것들을 그 아내들은 당당하게 누려도 된다. 종종 자기주장이 강한 독립적인 여성들이 결혼해서 낭패를 보는 것도 이런 사실을 간과하기 때문이다. 남녀가 평등하니까 아무런 조건도 보지 않고 대등한 입장에서 결혼했고 집 장만이나 예물처럼 일반적으로 남자들이 부담하는 것들도 거절했는데, 결혼하고 나서는 전혀 평등하지 않은 생활을 강요당하니 황망하고 억울한 것이다. 그런 결혼은 여자가 아무리 앙보를 한다고 해도 무난하게 유지되기 힘들다. 서로가 주고받는 것에 균형이 안 맞기 때문이다. 현재 한국에서의 결혼은 여자가 자신보다 사회적 지위나 경제력이 나은 남자와 하는 것이 균형에 맞다.

        Structural Aspects of GPCR-G Protein Coupling

        G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are membrane receptors; approximately 40% of drugs on the market target GPCRs. A precise understanding of the activation mechanism of GPCRs would facilitate the development of more effective and less toxic drugs. Heterotrimeric G proteins are important molecular switches in GPCR-mediated signal transduction. An agonist-activated receptor interacts with specific sites on G proteins and promotes the release of GDP from the Gα subunit. Because of the important biological role of the GPCR-G protein coupling, conformational changes in the G protein upon receptor coupling have been of great interest. One of the most important questions was the interface between the GPCR and G proteins and the structural mechanism of GPCR-induced G protein activation. A number of biochemical and biophysical studies have been performed since the late 80s to address these questions; there was a significant breakthrough in 2011 when the crystal structure of a GPCR-G protein complex was solved. This review discusses the structural aspects of GPCR-G protein coupling by comparing the results of previous biochemical and biophysical studies to the GPCR-G protein crystal structure.

        우울증에 대한 천연물 추출물 국내 특허 동향 분석

        Objectives: To analyze the trend of Korean patents of natural product extracts for depression. This study also aimed to enhance the development and application of natural product extracts for depression in Korean herbal medicine. Methods: We searched the Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service and Science ON to collect Korean patent data of natural product extracts for depression. Two authors independently screened and assessed full texts of screened patents for eligibility. Included patents were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Results: A total of 62 patents from 2002 to December 2021 were included for analysis. The number of patents has constantly increased since 2002. Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fischer, Perilla frutescens Britton var. acuta Kudo, Zizyphus jujuba Miller var. inermis Rehder were frequently used among 62 patents. Alcohol extraction was mostly used, followed by water extraction and ethyl extraction regarding extract methods. Eight patents were herbal medicine used for treating depression in Korean Medicine. Conclusions: Various Korean herbal medicine and minerals were used as natural-products for treating depression. These results provide fundamental data that can be used for inventing new patents using Korean herbal medicine, developing new natural product extracts for depression, and extending the range of application of these products in clinical setting.

        Patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) are known to be more susceptible to tuberculosis infection due to impairment of the host defense mechanism. Although extrapulmonary tuberculosis is more prevalent in those subjects and it may induce dismal outcome, its diagnosis has been challenging since there is no specific symptoms of the disease and the clinical course is usually atypical. Herein, We report a case of disseminated tuberculosis diagnosed by ultrasound-guided liver biopsy in a 31-year-old CRF patient presenting sustained fever despite broad-spectrum antimicrobial therapy and progressive cholestatic jaundice.

        장마시기에 따른 농업용 저수지 내 용존 유기물 분광특성과 분자량 변화

        In this study, we investigated the variations of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in an agricultural reservoir during the monsoon period (June to October, 2020) with respect to the organic carbon concentration (DOC), molecular weight distribution, and optical properties. The monsoon period was divided into three phases ? beginning storm (BS), during storm (DS), and after storm (AS). Our results showed significant differences in the concentrations and characteristics of DOM during the summer monsoon. The DOC concentrations were decreased after the monsoon, probably due to a dilution effect. In contrast, increasing trends were observed in the specific UV absorbance (SUVA), and relative abundances of humic-like fluorescence and larger-sized compounds. These observations implied that the large-sized and humic-like organic components with terrestrial origins strongly affected the reservoir DOM after the summer monsoon. Meanwhile, biopolymer size fraction, which is associated with algal activity, became more abundant after the monsoon. These results suggest that DOM with autochthonous sources became dominant as a result of the inflow of nutrients into the reservoir after the storm. Spatial changes in DOM within the reservoir were not pronounced as much as the temporal variations. All taken, it can be concluded that the summer monsoon simply led to the decrease of DOM concentrations while the sources and the quality of DOM underwent substantial changes, which may enrich refractory organic matter in the reservoir. This study reveals the importance of in-depth DOM quality monitoring before and after summer monsoon for effective water quality management in agricultural reservoirs.

        병원 밖 심정지 환자의 치료적 저체온 요법의 유도에 있어서 통상적 방법과 하이드로겔 패드 부착방법의 냉각속도의 고찰

        Background: Therapeutic hypothermia has been recommended as a standard treatment of cardiac arrest patients after return of spontaneous circulation. There are various methods to drop patient’s core body temperature below 33.5oC. We compared the cooling rate of the conventional cooling method using cold saline bladder irrigation with the commercial hydrogel pad in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients. Methods: We collected data retrospectively from the Samsung Medical Center hypothermia database. The conventional method group was cooled with IV infusion of 2,000 ml of 4oC cold saline and cold saline bladder irrigation. Patients in the hydrogel pad group had their body temperature lowered with the Artic SunⓇ after receiving 2,000 ml of 4oC cold saline intravenously. The induction time was defined as time from cold saline infusion to the esophageal core temperature below 33.5oC. The esophageal temperature probe insertion to the target temperature time (ET to target BT time) was defined as the time from the esophageal probe insertion to the core temperature below 33.5oC. We compared these times and cooling rates between the two groups. Results: Eighty one patients were enrolled. Fifty seven patients were included in the hydrogel pad group and 24 patients were in the conventional group. There were no statistical differences of baseline characteristics between the two groups. The induction time of the conventional group (138 min., IQR 98-295) was shorter than that of the hydrogel pad group (190 min., IQR 140-250). The ET to target BT time of the conventional group (106 min., IQR 68-249) was shorter than that of the hydrogel pad group (163 min., IQR 108-222). The cooling rate of the conventional group (0.93oC/hr., IQR 0.58-2.08) was lower than that of the hydrogel pad group (1.05oC/hr., IQR 0.74-1.96). However, there were no statistical differences in the induction time, the ET to target BT time and the cooling rate between the two groups. Conclusions: There was no significant statistical difference of the cooling rate of the hydrogel pad and conventional method on the induction time of therapeutic hypothermia in Patients with OHCA. The conventional cooling method can be used as an effective and efficient way to lower OHCA patient’s core body temperature during the induction phase of therapeutic hypothermia.
