Measurements on indoor organic compounds air pollution level in 96 houses were conducted. Houses which measurement carried out were collected based on the survey results about house type and constructed year in Seoul city. Indoor air organic compounds were monitored with two diffusive samplers. One was a cartridge treated with 2,4-initrophenylhydrazine for aldehydes sampling. The other was a passive charcoal tube for VOCs sampling. Two samplers were simultaneously exposed in living room during 24 hours. Aldehydes extracted with 2ml acetonitrile from the cartridge were analyzed by HPLC equipped with an UV diode array detector. VOCs were extracted with 2ml carbon disulfide from the charcoal tube by shaking and then analyzed by chromatograph and mass selective detector. The main Results were as follows; 1) Formaldehyde were detected in more than 90% of all homes, and average value of detected level was 54.92ppb. This alue is lower than ASHRAE guideline (100ppb) and WHO guideline (80ppb). 2) Toluene were detected in all homes, and EthylAcetate, 1-Butanol, ethylbenzene, p-Xylene, D-limonen were detected more than 50% of all homes. 24 hours averaged level of sum of VOCs was 179.96㎍/㎥, and this value is lower than WHO‘s TVOC(Total Volatile Organic Compounds) guideline (300㎍/㎥). 3) Mostly frequent detective level of formaldehyde was between 50-60㎍/㎥, and 84.09% of all homes showed lower level than WHO guideline. 4) Mostly frequent detective level of sum of VOCs was between 100-150㎍/㎥, and 86.46% of all homes showed lower level than WHO's TVOCs guideline.

This study measured the thermal environment and residents' control behaviors of a thermostat in the apartments' living rooms which used the floor heating system in winter in Seoul. The purpose of this study is to find out the present thermal environment of the living rooms and the problems of present heating systems and control methods and to suggest the devices for the improvement of human interface. The surveys and measurements took place in twelve apartments of Seoul for a week in February, 2004. The results were summarized as follows; The thermal environment of apartments' living rooms were slightly warm and dry, and residents showed low clo value compare to season. Furthermore, by the heating system, there were differences in residents' control behaviors. This is due to the method of calculating heating cost by the heating system and the usability of controller by the type of thermostats. Therefore, the conversion from the existing central heating system to the separate heating system and the improvement of thermostats' utility will be needed.

All the outdoor and indoor spaces are connected with each other. The human being moves toward those spaces with temperature fluctuation between the natural and artificial temperature. We conducted an experiment which subjects were wearing the data logger in urban life, and measured 24 hours' exposed temperature and thermal comfort in summer. Results were as follows. 1. Subjects controls their micro climate like this. Most of them(84.6%) get weather information. Fashion(46.2%) and weather(30.8%) are the reasons to select clothes. They spend their time in indoor environment for 84.92% hours of a day and have an air-conditioner(61.5%) in their houses. 2. Temperature fluctuation which subjects were exposed for 24 hours were from 15.6$^{\circ}C$ to 33.8$^{\circ}C$ and average fluctuation was 9.02$^{\circ}C$. The median value of experienced temperature were 26-26.5$^{\circ}C$ and average temperature was 26.18$^{\circ}C$. They experienced cold shock of 3.96 times in a day.

In this study, indoor thermal environment, resident behavior of operating cooling device, and thermal comfort vote are investigated at the living room of apartment during summertime in Seoul. Based on the results of the investigation, indoor air temperatures that residents turn air conditioners (especially for cooling load in this research) on and off were found out. The relationships between outdoor weather condition and the number of days using air conditioner, and whether operating patterns of the devices were also found out. The acceptable thermal comfort zone is figured out from these results, and this research is expected to contribute to the development of household air conditioner. The results can be summarized as the followings; Residents turned the air conditioner on at 29.76℃ of indoor air temperature, and 28.89℃ of SET*. And turned the air conditioner off at 27.31℃ of indoor air temperature, and 23.70℃ SET*. Therefore, acceptable thermal comfort zone could be lied between these temperatures. If comfortable indoor thermal environment can be obtained with various architectural passive cooling techniques based on the results, energy consumption of cooling devices will be reduced.

The purpose of this study is to find out the Consumers' value about Environmentally-Friendly Interior Finishing Material and to provide essential data for the development of realistic environmentally-friendly material also in compliance with the requirement of consumer. The questionnaire inquiry used of Analytic Hierarchy Process was carried out for both designers and common housewives to characterize the main demanding stratums for interior finishing goods in October, 2004. The results were summarized as follows; The interior finishing materials regarded as important in residential space were by the order of Wood Floor for Ondol, Wall Paper, Emulsion Paint; Environmentally-Friendly Wall Paper appeared its value of 1.56 times than Ordinary Wall Paper, in the same case of Emulsion Paint is at 1.63 times, Wood Floor at 2.12 times, respectively. Besides, as the result of correlation and regression analysis, they preferred to environmentally-friendly property by the nearer women, the nearer larger incomes, the nearer highly educated, and the nearer non-experts (housewives).
