Nonparametric Bayesian modeling for baseline hazard functions
전예나,김세중,조장희,김용구 한국데이터정보과학회 2022 한국데이터정보과학회지 Vol.33 No.4
Survival analysis is primarily used to identify the time-to-event for events of interest. The Cox proportional hazards model takes advantage that it accounts for the proportionate risks of covariates without estimating exact baseline hazards. However, estimation of exact hazard distribution is always accompanied by estimating baseline hazard function as well as regression parameters. In this study, we adopted nonparametric Bayesian hierarchical model with flexible priors in estimating cumulative baseline hazard function. We assume a monotone step function for the cumulative baseline hazard function, where the number, size, and location of jumps are random. By Estimating the step function through stick-breaking construction, we can obtain a totally data-driven step function.

Purpose : Until recently, the number of cancer patients continues to increase, and these patients have many limitations in their activities of daily living. In the republic of Korea, cancer patients are showing an increasing trend every year. Cancer disease not only significantly reduces the quality of life in individuals, but also causes various side effects if not managed. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of aerobic exercise and resistance exercise on health-related problems in cancer patients. Methods : This study searched for studies that applied aerobic exercise and resistance exercise to cancer patients reported in search engines (google scala, dbpia, and pubmed) from 2017 to 2022. Six randomized controlled trials and two systematic reviews and meta-analyses were used for analysis in our study. “physical activity”, “exercise”, “aerobic exercise”, “resistance exercise”, and “cancer patient” were the main search terms. The data included aerobic exercise, resistance exercise, cancer patients’ muscle strength, physical strength, quality of life, and physical activity. Results : According to the eight studies that met the criteria included in this review study, it was found that aerobic exercise and resistance exercise had an effect on the increase in physical fitness, muscular strength, quality of life, and range of motion in cancer survivors. Conclusion : It was confirmed that aerobic exercise and resistance exercise are safe and effective interventions that can be applied to cancer patients without side effects. A limitation of this study is that it did not examine cancer diseases in various population groups such as the elderly and children. Therefore, in future studies, studies that consider specific details such as age, gender, type of cancer, and physical differences are needed.

The present investigation was undertaken to assess the effect of 1,000mg of calcium supplementation on the iron status of elderly. The subjects included 66 elderly(male: 11, female:55) and devided into calcium supplements group(CG) and placebo group(PG). 1000mg of calcium(Oscal. Dongwha pharmacy) and placebo were provided to CG and PG, respectively for 10 months. Nutrient intake, hematological iron status and proportion of anemia were evaluated before and after supplementation. Calcium supplementation significantly increased calcium intake of CG from 305.3mg to 1514.6mg. PG also showed significantly increased intake of calcium but the extent of increase was much lower (from 358.2mg to 535.1mg). Mean RBC count, Hct, hemoglobin were not significantly changed for both CG and PG. Serum ferritin was significantly decreased from 50.0ng/㎖ to 41.2ng/㎖ for CG and from 60.2ng/㎖ to 30.8ng/㎖ for PG after supplementation. The proportion of anemic female estimated with hemoglobin level was elevated from 3.4% to 37.9 for CG and from 7.7% to 42.3% for PG. Anemic female estimated with Hct was also increased for both CG and PG. The proportion of elderly female regarded as iron depleted estimated by serum ferritin(<15ng/㎖) was lowered from 31.0% to 20.7% for CG but increased from 0% to 19.2% for PG. It looks like calcium supplementation in the form capsule did not cause adverse effect more than placebo.
