This study analyzed the Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emissions by Korea Army in 2012 for the GHG effective reduction. The analysis of the GHG revealed that the largest amount of the GHG was emitted by using the electricity and the light oil by Korea Army. In addition, the largest amount of the GHG was emitted by the GOP’s divisions followed by the mechanized divisions, infantry divisions, and coastal divisions. Aviation and transport units are characterized with high GHG emissions from mobile combustion. The monthly average of GHG emissions showed that the highest GHG emissions were winter and summer seasons. The mindset shift, the facility of construction, and the practical behavior for GHG emissions effective reduction are proposed.

For the purpose of finding out the acoustic characteristics in absorptive muffler, analytical and experimental studies are performed. Foamed aluminum is well-known metallic porous sound absorption material that has excellent properties of lightweight and high absorbing performance. Experimental method using two-microphone impedance tube measures the impedances of foamed aluminum and predicted impedances of foamed aluminum is compared with measured impedance. Cytomegalovirus colitis, invasive cytomegalovirus infection of colon, is an important opportunistic infection in immunosuppressed individuals. The clinical symptoms are abdominal pain, diarrhea, colionic hemorrhage and perforation. The endoscopic appearance show three characteristic features, 1) Focal or diffuse inflammatory changes: erythema, edema and erosion 2) Submucosal hemorrhagic spots 3) Clean-based, well demarcated ulcers(0.5-2 cm) We report a case of cytomegalovirus colitis in 41-year-old male with massive hematochezia, which confirmed by histopathologic findings in autopsy.

The mesenteric infarction, as a abdominal disease which show acute abdominal pain and almost need to emergency operation, has very high mortality. This mesenteric infarction has been reported very rarely. Also specific clinical manifestations are not clear, therefore initial diagnosis can be missed easily so that patients usually miss their opportunities for adequate treatment. Especially CAPD patients have high mortality because of their rareness and having similar symptoms like CAPD peritonitis. The authors report that the mesenteric infarction was miss-diagnosed to the CAF'D peritonitis with unspecific symptoms.

Although steroids have been used for a long time in the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), steroids may result in a major defect in host defences and increased prevalence of a wide variety of infection. steroid ‘Pulse’therapy has been advocated for effective management of certain circumstance such as lupus nephritis, rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis, minimal change nephrotic syndrome but the use of high dose steroid is a problem because of the danger of mycobacterial and fungal infection. We report the clinical and pathological findings of a lupus nephritis patient with fulminant course of disseminated tuberculosis and aspergillosis after steroid ‘Pulse’therapy.

Background/Aims: The overall age-matched incidence of gastroduodenal ulcers was considerably higher in cirrhotic patients compared to the general population. There are several possible underlying mechanisms which may explain the ulcerogenic factors in cirrhotic patients. Recently, Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) was proven as the cause of peptic ulcer disease in the general population. But the role of H. pylori infection in the pathogenesis of peptic ulcers of cirrhotic patients has not been clearly elucidated. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of H. pylori infection in cirrhotic patients with peptic ulcers. Methods: From 1995 to 1997, 105 patients with histologically or radiologically proven liver cirrhosis (LC) who received panendoscopic examination due to presence of any upper gastrointestinal symptoms were studied. During endoscopic examination, a CLO (campylobacter like organism) test or gastric antral mucosal biopsy was performed in all patients. The severity of LC assessed by Child's criteria revealed that 31 patients had Child's A, 26 patients Child's B, and the remain 48 patients, Child's C. Child B or C was classified as decompensated LC. An esophageal varix was present in 73 patients or absent in 32. Results: There was no statistical difference in the H. pylori prevalance between the ulcer group and non-ulcer group (67% vs 52%). In Child A group, the H. pylori prevalence was significantly higher in the ulcer group when compared with the non-ulcer group (87% vs 50%, p<0.05). In contrast, in the Child B or C group, there was no statistical difference between the ulcer group and non-ulcer group. In the abscence of esophageal varix, the ulcer group showed significantly higher prevalence of H. pylori than the non-ulcer group (87% vs 59%, p<0.05). But in the esophageal variceal group, there was no significant difference in the H. pylori prevalence between the ulcer and non-ulcer group (60% vs 40%). Conclusions: These observations suggest that H. pylori infection may play a role in the phogenesis of peptic ulcer in compensated cirrhotic patients. However, in cirrhotic patients with decompensation or an esophageal varix, the association between H. pylori infection and peptic ulcers was weak, so other factors (portal hypertension etc.) should be considered as more potent etiology of peptic ulcers in cases of decompensated cirrhosis.
