The overview of KUH design and development process is presented according to Buede's systems and development "vee" model. The system decomposition and integration activities exemplify KUH specification tree, design maturity and analysis according to design stage(conceptual, preliminary, and detail design), scheduled work breakdown structure, qualification test, ground test, and flight test. This process can be applied to the development of a new aircraft.
A Design for Six Sigma: A Robust Tool in Systems Engineering Process

While systems engineering has been widely applied to complex system development, some evidences are reported about major budget and schedule overruns in systems engineering applied. On the other hand, many organizations have been deploying Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) to build Six Sigma momentums in the area of design and development for their products and processes. To explore the possibility of having a DFSS complement systems engineering process, this process reviews the systems engineering with their categories of effort and DFSS with its methodologies. A comparison of the systems engineering process and DFSS indicates that DFSS can be a complement to systems engineering for delivering higher quality products to customers faster at a lower cost. We suggest a simplified framework of systems engineering process, that is, PADOV which was derived from the generic systems engineering process which has been applied to the development of T-50 advanced supersonic trainer aircraft by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) with technical assistance of Lockheed Martin. We demonstrated that each phase of PADOV framework is comprehensively matched to the pertinent categories of systems engineering effort from various standards.

This is a study on the effective and efficient way of airworthiness certification for Korean indigenously developed military aircrafts. Investigating the policy, process, and capability for military aircraft airworthiness certification in USA end Europe, the approach for Korean military aircraft airworthiness certification is recommended. Using FAR as basis for military airworthiness criteria is much more beneficial in initial stage of establishing airworthiness certification system. And all the available resources regardless of civil or military institutes need to be cooperated to accomplish required level of indigenous airworthiness certification capability.
비가중 무제한 2차원 절단문제에 대한 최적-우선 분지한계 해법

In this paper, a best-first branch and bound algorithm based upon the bottom-up approach for the unweighted unconstrained two-dimensional cutting problem is proposed to find the optimal solution to the problem. The algorithm uses simple and effective methods to prevent constructing duplicated patterns and reduces the searching space by dividing the branched node set. It also uses a efficient bounding strategy to fathom the set of patterns. Computational results are compared with well-known exact algorithms and demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.
KC-100 비행기 설계 단계별 적합성입증방법에 관한 사례연구

본 논문은 소형 항공기 설계 단계별 적합성입증방법에 대하여 KC-100 비행기 개발사례를 통하여 제시하고자 한다. 개념설계 단계에서는 개발 항공기 초기 개발규격을 토대로 적용 기술기준을 검토 및 인증기준을 수립하고, 기본설계 단계에서는 수립된 인증기준에 대한 적합성입증방법을 검토하여 적합성점검표 초안을 작성한다. 기본설계가 완료되는 시점 또는 상세설계 착수 시점에 수립된 적합성점검표 초안을 포함하여 감항당국에 형식증명을 신청하고, 상세설계 단계에서는 감항당국과의 협의를 통하여 적합성입증방법을 구체화하여 신청자의 적합성입증을 수행한다. 현재 KC-100 비행기는 수립된 인증기준에 대한 신청자의 적합성입증은 완료하였으며, 감항당국의 적합성판정 단계를 수행중이다. 본 사례연구를 통하여 향후 동급의 항공기 개발이나 중대형 항공기 개발에도 적용할 수 있는 지침이 될 수 있으리라 판단된다. This paper shows consideration of means of compliance according to design phases of the small airplane through the KC-100 project. In the conceptual design phase, applicable airworthiness standards are reviewed and certification basis on the basis of preliminary development specifications is established. Compliance checklist draft is established by reviewing means of compliance for certification basis in the preliminary design phase. At the end of preliminary design or the start point of detail design phase, type certification is applied to airworthiness authorities with compliance checklist draft. In the detail design phase, means of compliance is more specified by discussion between a type certification applicant and airworthiness authorities, and a type certification applicant shows compliance for certification basis. In the KC-100 project, type certification applicant’s showing compliance activities have been done, and airworthiness authorities are currently finding compliance. This paper can become the guideline which can be applied to the certification project of development of future equivalent level or the medium-large size airplanes through this case study.
