HCl/에탄올로 유발된 급성 위염에서 Artemisia frigida Willd의 위장 보호 효과

Artemisia frigida Willd (AW, Fringed sagewort), which is widespread in Mongolia, is a well-known medicinal plant as a member of the Compositae family. This study aims to explore the gastroprotective effect of water extract of AW on 150 mM HCl/60% ethanol-induced acute gastritis in 5 week old male ICR mice. Total polyphenols, total flavonoid contents, and anti-oxidant activity in vitro in AW were evaluated. First, the gross area of gastric mucosal damage was measured. Then western blot analysis was conducted to determine the possible mechanisms of action underlying the effects of AW. AW administration decreased gastric mucosal damage. Moreover, the group with AW treatment effectively inhibited nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase expression associated with oxidative stress. AW treatment enhanced an anti-oxidant effect through the increase of anti-oxidant proteins. Besides, the increased expressions of inflammatory cytokines induced by nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) activation are alleviated through AW treatment. Taken together, AW exerted a gastroprotective effect against gastric mucosal damage. These results indicate that AW could have the potential used as a natural therapeutic drug for the treatment of acute gastritis.
pH의 급성 변화에 따른 넙치(Paralichthys olivaceus)의 혈액학적 성상 및 스트레스 반응

Olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus (total weight 216.4±14.6 g, total length 28.4±1.7 cm) were exposed to different pH levels (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9) for 96 h. At pH 4, hemoglobin decreased significantly, while plasma calcium, glucose, cholesterol, and ALP increased significantly. Exposure to pH 4 also induced stress responses, as evidenced by a significant decrease in heat shock protein 70 (HSP 70) and a significant increase in cortisol. The results of this study indicate that acute exposure to acidic or alkaline pH (pH 3 or 9) induced significant mortality, while exposure to pH 4significantly affected hematological parameters and stress responses in P. olivaceus.
위궤양 유발 마우스모델에서 薑黃 추출물의 위 보호 효과

Objectives : The objective of this study was to evaluate the gastric protective effect of Curcuma Longae Rhizoma (CLR) in 150 mM HCl/60% ethanol induced gastric ulcer (GU) in mice. Methods : Forty ICR mice were divided into five groups (n=8/Group): Nor group; Normal, Veh group; GU control, SC group; GU + sucralfate 10 ㎎/㎏, CL; GU + CLR 30% ethanol extract 100 ㎎/㎏, CH group; GU + CLR 30% ethanol extract 200 ㎎/㎏. Then, mice were orally administered with 150 mM HCl/60% ethanol and caused GU. After 1 hr, mice were sacrificed, and blood and stomach tissue were collected. Results : CLR showed significance scavenging effects in 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azinobis-3- ethyl-benzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) radical scavenging activities (DPPH IC50; 78.18 ± 0.60 ㎍/㎖, ABTS IC50; 55.91 ± 1.86 ㎍/㎖). CLR significance reduce inflammatory-related factors such as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) via nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) inactivation. In addition, the activation of nuclear factor erythroid2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) significantly led to up-regulation of anti-oxidant enzymes including factors heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), super oxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase-1/2 (GPx-1/2). Conclusions : Our discovery provides that CLR possesses anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Hence, CLR may ameliorate the development of gastric ulcer though the inhibition of NF-κB inflammatory pathway and the elevation of Nrf2 anti-oxidant pathway.
Thioacetamide로 유발한 간손상 모델에서 계혈등(鷄血藤)의 간보호 효과

Objectives : This study was undertaken to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of Spatholobi Caulis water extract (SC) to thioacetamide (TAA)-induced acute liver injury (ALI) in rats. Methods : The rats were injected intraperitoneally with TAA (200 ㎎/㎏ body weight) and orally administered SC (100 or 200 ㎎/㎏ b.w.) daily for 3 days. Liver biomarkers were assessed by serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT), and ammonia levels. Malondialdehyde (MDA) was measured both serum and liver tissue. In addition, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase, anti-oxidant, and inflammation-related proteins were investigated by western blot analysis. Histological examination further confirmed though hematoxylin and eosin stain. Results : The SC treatment reduced liver function markers like GOT and GPT and also remarkably decreased ammonia level. Moreover, the elevated MDA level in TAA-induced group was significantly reduced by SC treatment. NADPH oxidase expression associated with oxidative stress including NOX2, NOX4, and p47<sup>phox</sup> markedly inhibited by SC administration. SC treatment exerted anti-oxidant effect through the increase of anti-oxidant enzyme including superoxide dismutase (SOD), Catalase, and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1). The protein expressions of inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), IL-6, and IL-1β induced by nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) activation were modulated through blocking the phosphorylation of inhibitor of nuclear factor κBα (IκB)α. SC treatment also improved histological alterations. Conclusion : These findings suggested that SC administration may be a potential candidate for the prevention or treatment of ALI.

Economy of world has grown rapidly. This growth has increased the ownership of household electrical appliances including room air conditioners. The number of users of air conditioners is predicted to grow dramatically in the future. This paper discusses the present status of residential appliance energy efficiency standards around the world. The study found that the energy efficiency standards for room air conditioners would mitigate a significant amount of emissions in Korea.

This study aimed to examine the protective effect of the water extract from Spatholobi Caulis (SC) on rats with acute liver injury (ALI) induced by thioacetamide (TAA) and its underlying mechanism. ALI was induced by intraperitoneal injection with TAA for 3 days in a row and the rats were administered SC (100 or 200 mg/kg) 1 h 30 min prior to the TAA treatment. Myeloperoxidase (MPO) was measured in serum and malondialdehyde (MDA) was measured in serum and liver tissue, as markers related to oxidative stress. Further, inflammation-related proteins and apoptosis proteins were investigated using western blot analysis. SC treatment significantly reduced the levels of MPO and MDA. Further, SC treatment significantly reduces the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway, including p-JNK, p-ERK, and p-p38, and reduces the expression of pro-inflammatory signaling factors. Furthermore, it effectively decreased the expression of Bax, Cytochrome C, and Cleaved Caspase-3 in liver tissue. Taken together, SC treatment alleviate0d the severity of ALI via inhibition of inflammation through both the MAPK pathway and Matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs)-dependent apoptosis.

The purpose of this paper is to compensate the voltage drop of the power system in the AC Electric Railway Systems. Reactive power compensation is often the most effective way to improve system voltage drop. The suitable modeling of the electric railway system should be applied to the EMTP. the dynamic characteristics of 3-Phase Induction Motor in Electric Railway Systems is considered for precise modeling. it is shown through EMTP simulation using EMTP MODELS that voltage drop can be compensated effectively by STATCOM.
