This paper presents a methodology for the determination of criteria for managing cable tension force in cable-stayed bridges using acceleration data acquired by monitoring system. There are many long span bridges installed with monitoring system in Korea. The monitoring systems are installed to diagnose abnormal behavior or damages in bridges and to warn these to bridge management agency. In cable-stayed bridges, the cable tension force could be an important indicator of abnormal behavior because of the geometric configuration of the cable-stayed bridge. If the criteria for managing cable tension force is set too high or too low, then the monitoring system could not properly warn the abnormal behavior of a bridge. Generally, the management value is set by empirical or engineering judgment, but in this paper, a new methodology for the determination of rational criteria for managing cable tension force is proposed based on the probability distribution model for tension force and reliability analysis. The proposed methodology is applied to a real concrete cable-stayed bridge to demonstrate its applicability.

The management of the cable tension of cable-stayed bridges is one of the most important jobs for long-term maintenance works. The cable tension is usually estimated by the string vibration theory with the natural frequency extracted from the field monitoring acceleration data of the cables. The estimation of the cable tensions is often affected with the bending stiffness, sag, effective length of cables. Also, in the case of the multi-strand stay cable (MS type), it should be considered that the empty space between the strand bundle and the protecting HDPE duct can affect the acceleration of cables when the accelerometer is installed just on the HDPE duct. From this reason, the exact acceleration data of cables could not be obtained. Therefore, the cable tension estimated from the acceleration of the HDPE duct may contains large errors. In this study, the calculated cable tension is compared according to cable types as a preliminary study on the reliability analysis of the method for estimation cable tension.

This paper provides a carbonation prediction model, based on the Fick's 2nd law of diffusion. The model considers important parameters such as the chemical composition of cement and atmospheric CO2 concentration, W/C ratio, the degree of hydration. In this study, carbonation prediction model is developed by using a bayesian approach. The proposed model ie very useful in designing concrete structures and can predict the remaining service life of existing concrete structures which have been monitored.

This study is to investigate and analyze the correlation of carbonation according to strength of concrete members for bridge in marine enviroment. Also depth of carbonation according to age for 100 years is estimated by carbonation rate coefficient. As a result of the measurement, it was found that the depth of carbonation decreases with increasing strength. This is because it is considered that water-cement ratio and amount of unit cement are influenced by the concrete mixing. Also, It is anticipated that rebar corrosion due to carbonation will not occur in concrete members.
