Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) is a severe, potentially life-threatening complication of childhood systemic inflammatory disorder, primarily systemic onset juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (SoJRA). It is characterized by pancytopenia, liver insufficiency, coagulopathy, and neuro-logic symptoms. The clinical manifestations are caused by the activation and uncontrolled proliferation of T lymphocytes and macrophages, leading to cytokine overproduction including tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Methylpre-dnisolone pulse therapy and cyclosporine A have made a considerable progress in the treatment of MAS. However, the mortality rate remains high suggesting the need of another therapeutic agent. Several cases of MAS successfully treated with TNF-α inhibitor (etanercept) have been reported. We report the first Korean case of MAS successfully treated with combination therapy of corticosteroid, cyclosporine A and etanercept.
소아 류마티스관절염과 Ebstein Barr Virus 감염

Objective. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) may occur in the wake of infection with several viruses including Ebstein-barr virus (EBV). EBV remains an interesting target. To determine the possible role of EBV infections in the clinical course of JRA, we attempt to demonstrate the radiologic changes and the frequency prescription of etanercept rather than classic therapy. Methods. Total of 87 patients with JRA, who were hospitalized in Hangang Sacred Hospital and Kangnam Sacred Hospital in Seoul from 2002 to 2010, were assessed serologically for EBV infection (anti EBV VCA IgM and IgG) at admission. Patients with JRA were devided 2 groups, one is EBV VCA IgG (+) JRA patients who had been infected before and another is EBV VCA IgG (-) JRA patients who had not. Results. EBV VCA IgG (+) were seen in 55 patients (63.2%). 31 boys (76%) and 24 girls (52%) were infected with EBV. The mean age of patients of EBV (+) JRA was 8.2±3.6 years and that of EBV (-) JRA was 5.3±3.4 years. 7 of EBV (+) JRA (13%) developed radiologic change within 2 years, compare with none of EBV (-) JRA. 22 of EBV (+) JRA (49%) with JRA did not respond to the classic therapy, compare with 7 of EBV (-) JRA (22%). Conclusion. JRA patients with past EBV infection were older in ages, more in male, more radiologic changes, needed more biologic treatment than those without past EBV infection.

Multifunctional structures with two kinds of materials have been intensively investigated in order to improve their electrical characteristic with two functions simultaneously. However, the research regarding of multifunctional ceramic sensor is still in a preliminary stage and how to integrate them with low-cost and high-yield mass production process remains a challenge issue. In this study, we fabricated the multifunctional ceramic sensor composed of temperature and gas sensors. Moreover, we investigated the CO sensing properties of three dimensional nanostuctured $Nb_2O_5$ thin film gas sensors fabricated with silica ($SiO_2$ nanosphere (${\O}$= 750 nm). Compared to plain films, the nanostructured films show enhanced gas sensing of greater sensitivity and a faster response. This result reveals that significantly increased sensitivity is an increase in the effective surface area for the adsorption of gas molecules.
선택적 가스 센서를 위한 Au 나노입자가 장식된 TiO2 나노튜브의 합성

Well-ordered TiO2 nanotubes with Au nanoparticles are a desirable configuration to enhance the gas sensing properties such as response and selectivity due to their high surface area to volume ratio and catalytic effect of Au nanoparticles. We have synthesized the well-ordered TiO2 nanotubes directly on a Pt IDEs patterned SiO2/Si substrate and then decorated Au nanoparticles on inner and outer surface of TiO2 nanotubes using electrodeposition method. The Au-decorated TiO2 nanotubes shows ultrahigh response to C2H5OH and the highest increasing ratio to H2 compared with other gases.

In this paper, the gearless traction machine drive system using a permanent-maget motor for high-speed elevators is addressed. This application of permanent-magnet motor to the elevator traction machine enables several improvements including higher efficiency, better ride comfort, smaller size and weight, and so on. PWM boost converter is also adopted so that DC-link voltage regulation, bi-directional power flow, and controllable power factor with reduced input current harmonics are possible. To increase reliability and performance, the control board, which can include the car and group controller as well as PWM converter and inverter controller, is designed based on TMS320VC33 DSP. The simulator system for high-speed elevators has been developed so that the drive system of high-speed elevator can be tested without any limitation on ride distance and the load condition. Some experimental results are given to verify the effectiveness of the developed system.

One-dimensional (1D) nanostructures allow for precise control of geometrical size and shape, offering greater design flexibility than other nanostructures. 1D nanostructures, in particular, hold immense potential for revolutionizing the gas sensor field, owing to their extensive surface areas conducive to chemical reactions. To harness this potential, researchers have dedicated their efforts to developing fabrication methods that incorporate 1D nanostructures into gas sensor applications. Various techniques have been explored, including hydrothermal synthesis, electrospinning, sol-gel processes, solid-state chemical reactions, vapor-phase transport, and chemical vapor deposition. Despite these advancements, challenges regarding uniformity and reproducibility persist. In this report, we review the glancing angle deposition (GLAD) technique for applying 1D nanostructures to gas sensors and discuss to the potential of GLAD in overcoming existing limitations and driving forward the realm of 1D nanostructure-based gas sensors.
