Purpose Gastric cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Although surgery is the standard curative treatment for gastric cancer, relapse occurs in a large number of patients, except in the case of early diagnosed gastric cancer. Following previous studies that identified endoplasmic reticulum oxidoreductin 1- (ERO1L) as a potential marker for gastric cancer, we investigated the functional role of ERO1L in gastric cancer. Materials and Methods For validation of microarray data, the mRNA expression level of ERO1L was measured by quantitative real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction in 56 independent stage III gastric cancer patients. Immunohistochemical staining was performed to examine the protein expression level of ERO1L in 231 gastric cancer patients. Correlation between gene expression and cancer prognosis was evaluated. Results Patients with high ERO1L expression had poorer survival than those with low expression (p < 0.01). Functional assays demonstrated that ERO1L knockdown inhibited cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and chemoresistance. In addition, involvement of inactivation of Akt and JNK signaling in molecular mechanisms of ERO1L inhibition was demonstrated. Conclusion High expression of ERO1L is associated with poor prognosis of patients with gastric cancer. These results indicate that ERO1L expression may be a clinically promising therapeutic target for prevention of gastric cancer.

SLC6A19 which reported as a neurotransmitter was composed of seven minisatellites. In previous our study, the minisatellites variants of SLC6A19-MS7 showed the susceptibility for hypertension. When this minisatellte sequences were analyzed using the bioinformatic tool, USF1 (upstream transcription factor 1) was found in this region as a putative transcription factor binding site. USF1 is binding with E-boxes which has a consensus sequence of CACGTG. USF1 is a ubiquitously expressed transcription factor and involved in the transcriptional control of many genes including the molecular pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease. Thus, we investigated that the putative functional relationship between the minisatellites variants and susceptibility for myocardial infarction. A case-control study was performed that compared genomic DNA from 400 controls and 225 cases with myocardial infarction. There were no significant differences observed in the overall allelic distribution of minisatellites between controls and cases, which indicates that this polymorphism is not responsible for myocardial infarction susceptibility. Hence, we analyzed the five different minisatellites alleles from this study and characterized 14 different repeats units (Unit1~Unit14). Then, we evaluated the DNA composition, phylogenic tree, and pairwise distances of its repeats. The variability of each repeats differed from 2.33% to 16%. The phylogenic trees for the four SLC6A19-MS7 minisatellites exhibited very different shapes in their braches and distances, and present most common 8 repeats allele was the longest 14 repeats allele. Therefore, this result may help to understand for the evolutional level of the length of minisatellites.

Gene expression is suppressed by DNA methylation. The goal of this study was to identify genes whose CpG site methylation and mRNA expression are associated with recurrence after surgical resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Sixty-two HCCs were examined by both whole genome DNA methylation and transcriptome analysis. The Cox model was used to select genes associated with recurrence. A validation was performed in an independent cohort of 66 HCC patients. Among fifty-nine common genes, increased CpG site methylation and decreased mRNA expression were associated with recurrence for 12genes (Group A), whereas decreased CpG site methylation and increased mRNA expression were associated with recurrence for 25 genes (Group B). The remaining 22 genes were defined as Group C. Complement factor H (CFH) and myosin VIIA and Rab interacting protein (MYRIP) in Group A; proline/serine-rich coiled-coil 1 (PSRC1), meiotic recombination 11 homolog A (MRE11A), and myosin IE (MYO1E) in Group B; and autophagy-related protein LC3 A (MAP1LC3A), and NADH dehydrogenase 1 alpha subcomplex assembly factor 1 (NDUFAF1) in Group C were validated. In conclusion,potential tumor suppressor (CFH, MYRIP) and oncogenes (PSRC1, MRE11A, MYO1E) in HCC are reported. The regulation of individual genes by methylation in hepatocarcinogenesis needs to be validated.
Clear Cell Sarcoma of the Kidney 1예

Clear cell sarcoma of the kidney(CCSK) is one of the rare malignant renal tumors in childhood and is different from Wilms tumor by its pathologic features, clinical manifestations and propensity to metastasize to the skeletal system and brain. We report a case of CCSK on the right kidney in a 14-month-old girl presented with aMominal distention and palpable huge aMominal mass on physical examination, followed by metastasis to the rib on the left upper thorax. After right nephrectomy, chemotherapy with National Wilms Tumor Study DD regimen(vincristine+dactinomycin+adriamycin) was continued without any evidence of relapse until the last follow-up, 1 year after beginning chemotherapy. A brief review of related literatures was made.

다량의 온실가스를 배출하는 시멘트 3종에 대하여 EU PEF 방법에 따라 환경성평가를 수행하였다. 환경성결과는 환경지수로 산출하였다. 그 결과 포틀랜드시멘트의 환경지수가 가장 높은 1.17E-01으로 나타났다. 이는 포틀랜드 시멘트의 지구온난화 영향이 다른 시멘트에 비해 월등히 높은데 기인한다. 하지만 미세먼지 영향은 온실가스 배출량이 가장 적은 에코시멘트가 가장 높았다. 에코시멘트의 미세먼지 영향을 줄이기 위해 황산칼슘의 대체가 필요하다. Environmental assessment was performed according to the EU PEF method for three types of cement that emit large GHG emissions. The results were calculated as an eco-point. As a result, Portland Cement has the highest eco-point of 1.17E-01. This is due to the fact that the global warming effect of Portland cement is significantly higher than those of other cements. However, eco-cement had the highest particulate matter effect. The replacement of calcium sulfate is necessary for reducing the particulate matter effect of eco-cement.

In this Paper, optimal capacity of energy storage and amount of CO₂ reduction in Jeju is calculated. Based on electricity demand data of Je-Ju from 2006 to 2007, the estimation electricity demand from 2009 to 2018 is performed. To calculate the amount of maximum CO₂ reduction and energy storage capacity in Jeju, the 4th power supply planning and IPCC guideline are used. Finally, Optimal capacity of energy storage and the amount of CO₂ reduction are showed.
