An optimum structural design methodology of magnetic actuators is proposed to achieve higher performance and lighter weight design. Level set method is introduced to represent boundaries between a ferromagnetic material domain and another domain filled with air. The optimization problem is formulated to maximize the magnetic energy of actuators under a minimum bound of material usages. The boundary shape of a structure is propagated by solving the level set equation of the initial value problem. The proposed method is applied to the structural design problem of magnetic actuators and verified.

Faced with unbalanced grid operation mode, the high voltage direct current (HVDC) based on voltage source converter (VSC) can be properly controlled by a dual current control scheme. For the modular multilevel converter (MMC) controlling the AC side current is able to limit the arm current which flows along the IGBT of submodule (SM) to rated current. However the limitation of the arm current results in leaving the control range of active power at MMC confined to below the rated capacity. As a result, limiting the arm current causes the problem that the DC side voltage of the HVDC can not be controlled to the reference value since MMC HVDC adjusts the DC side voltage through the active power. In this paper, we propose the algorithm adjusting the active powers of both MMCs to resolve the problem. The back-to-back MMC HVDC applying the algorithm is modeled by PSCAD/EMTDC to verify the algorithm.

N/A Objectives: Hyperlipidemia is well-known as one of the major risk factors of atherosclerotic heart disease. Previous reports indicate that reduction of meat and dairy product consumption has reduced development of coronary heart disease. This study was designed to assess prospectively the difference in blood level of various lipids and coronary artery disease risk between vegetarian and non-vegetarian in Korean adults. Methods :100 vegetarians and 82 non-vegetarians were recruited for lipid test including total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol, Apo A-I and Apo B during annual routine physical examination. Coronary risk and relative risk were analyzed according to the Framingham study data base using computerized calculation with variables including cholesterol, age, sex, blood pressure, smoking history and diabetes. To evaluate the influence of diet to coronary disease risk, 42 vegetarians and 97 non-vegetarians without other coronary risk factors were analyzed same manner, Result: 1) Total cholesterol was significantly lower in vegetarian groups (group A: 161.4mg/d1±6.76, group C: 160.62mg/dl±28.8) compared to non-vegetarians groups(group B: 180.65mg/dl±5.13, group D: 189.05 mg/dl 37.8)(p<0.01). 2) Other lipid values did not show significant difference. 3) Coronary risk was significantly lower in vegetarian groups compared to non-vegetarians(group A : 1.48% vs. group B: 1.78%; group C: 2.0% vs. group D: 6%). 4) Relative risk was also significantly lower in vegetarian groups compared to non-vegetarian groups (group A: 0.75±0.31 vs. group B: 1.00±0.41; group C: 0.74±0.2 vs. group D: 1.09±0.44) Conclusion: This study shows vegetarian group has significantly lower total cholesterol level and reduced coronary heart disease risk compared to non-vegetarian group.
손의 굽힘과 폄 동작 상상과 ERD(Event Related Desynchronization)/ERS(Event Related Synchronization)의 상관성에 관한 연구

This study was to identify the possibility of proposing BCI (Brain Computer Interface) for the severely disabled. To do so, we tried to identify ERD and ERS caused by imagining hand movements: open and close the right hand. Five undergraduate and graduate students of Sangmyung University (male: 3, female: 2) participated in the experiment. Instructions for envisaging the hand movements were displayed on a 17 inch LCD monitor. The experimental sequences were designed as follows: rest time of 20 seconds was imposed before the task. Then, the tests were performed under two sets of conditions: 30 test and 10 training sessions. In each test and training session, 3 seconds and 5 seconds was assigned as stimulus and rest time respectively. ERD and ERS were extracted from the β(13-30㎐) and μ(8-12㎐) wave area under two different hand movements. A Mann Whitney U test was performed to identify significant difference between the two hand movements. As a result, a significant difference was observed between opening and closing the right hand (p < 0.05). The results imply that it is possible to utilize ERD and ERS signals for helping the disabled to interact with their environments. The proposed method is expected to be a framework in developing an interactive system for the disabled.
