There exist some restrictions and difficulties in performing follicular unit extraction (FUE) in white-haired patients, for several reasons. In this paper, we introduce a novel technique for visualizing white hair during the punching procedure and graft preparation in FUE for whitehaired patients. In white-haired older male patients, we dyed the surrounding scalp skin purple with a gentian violet solution-stained toothpick. Our method has several advantages: surgeons can easily focus on the center of the follicular unit and rapidly perform punching, they can recognize the condition of the harvested follicular units during FUE, and the hair transplant team can secure a clear view for trimming and loading into the implanter. We suggest that scalp dyeing in difficult FUE procedures, especially in patients with white hair, may be a simple method that provides a good visualization for donor site harvesting and for microdissection.
기저세포암 증후군 환자에서 상악동 창과 골편이식을 이용한 치성각화 낭종의 제거 치험례: 접근의 용이성 및 재건의 의미

Purpose: Basal cell nevus syndrome (BCNS), also known as Gorlin syndrome, is a rare autosomal dominant disorder. It is characterized by complex neoplastic syndrome with multisystemic manifestations, involving six major features. This article presents a rare genetic disorder and usage of the author's methods for odontogenic keratocyst, developed in the maxillary sinus. Methods: A 67-year-old man was presented with large calcified maxillary mass and multisystemic manifestations and findings that matched with basal cell nevus syndrome. The calcified maxillary mass was removed via the versatile maxillary window and maxillary bone segment was repositioned. Results: Histopathologic findings revealed that maxillary and mandibular lesions were odontogenic keratocysts and the skin lesions were basal cell carcinoma. Conclusion: Basal cell nevus syndrome is a rare genetic disease that requires surveillance and care for basal cell carcinoma and multisystemic problems. The author's method was satisfactory for maxillary odontogenic keratocyst in the aspect of the approach and reconstruction.
HPLC-ECD를 이용한 흰쥐 뇌의 선조체 중 신경전달물질의 동시분석시 최적 조건

흰쥐 뇌의 선조체로부터 catecholamine, indoleamine 및 대사산물을 동시분석할 수 있는 간편한 방법을 제시하였다. 기기는 ECD를 장착한 HPCL를 사용하였고, 고정상인 C_18 컬럼에서, 이동상은 10mM citric acid, 0.13mM Na_4EDTA, 0.58mM SOS를 함유하는 35mM sodium acetate buffer(pH 3.4) : MeOH=85:15가 최적이었다. 이 때 컬럼온도는 30℃였다. 이 조건으로 dopamine(DA), 3, 4 -dihydroxyphenyl acetic acid(DOPAC), homovanilic acid(HVA), 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid(5-HIAA), serotonin(5-HT) 및 noradrenaline(NA)을 미량까지 분석할 수 있었고, 검출한계는 각 성분에 대해 1회 주입당 2~10pg이었다. 이 방법으로 흰쥐의 주령 및 성별에 따른 선조체내 생체아민과 대사산물의 함량을 비교하였다. 7주령 쥐에서 암컷은 수컷보다 DA와 5-HT의 함량이 유의성 있게 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 주령이 증가함에 따라 암컷에서 DOPAC의 함량이 유의적으로 증가하였다. A simple, efficient and sensitive method was described for the simultaneous determination of catecholamine, indoleamine and related metabolites from the homogenates of the rat brain striatum by HPLC-ECD. The optimum mobile phase on a reverse phase C_18 column was 35mM sodium acetate buffer(included 10mM citric acid, 0.13mM Na_4EDTA, 0.58mM SOS, pH 3·4):MeOH=85:15. The column temperature was 30℃. Dopamine(DA), 3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl acetic acid(DOPAC), homovanilic acid(HVA), 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid(5-HIAA), serotonin(5-HT) and noradrenaline(NA) could be separated and analysed to very small amount. The detection limits of this method were 2~10pg per injection for all components. The effects of age and sex of rat on the contents of the catecholamines and their metabolites in rat brain striatum were studied. The levels of DA and 5-HT contents of the 7 week old female rats were higher than those of the 7 week old male rats. As the age of rat increases, the contents of DOPAC increased significantly.

Purpose: The digital artery perforator flap was recently introduced and has been proven to be useful for reconstruction of various finger defects. Short operative time, less invasive surgery, and reliable flap circulation are the major advantages of this flap. The authors presented the clinical cases of the digital artery perforator flap and compared them with the distant flaps within a hand (thenar and hypothenar flaps) to reveal their differences. Methods: From May of 2006 to February of 2009, the authors performed reconstructions of finger defects with the digital artery perforator flaps in 10 patients as with the distant flaps within hand in 9 patients (7 thenar and 2 hypothenar flaps). In these two groups of the patients, flap size, use of skin graft, length of stay in hospital, healing time, complications were reviewed retrospectively and compared with statistical analysis (Student's t-test). Results: All flaps survived completely. The mean size of the perforator flap was $0.9{\times}1.9\;cm$ and the mean distant flap within a hand was $1.9{\times}2.0\;cm$. The use of skin graft was reduced in the perforator group because the donor site of the flap was closed primarily. The hospitalization period and healing time also reduced significantly in the perforator group. Minor complications (partial flap loss) were noted in small percentages in both groups but resolved with conservative management. Mean follow-up period was about 6 weeks. Conclusion: The digital artery perforator flap was smaller than the distant flap but its reconstruction of finger defects was reliable and comparable to the conventional distant flaps within a hand. This flap would be not only an alternative method but very useful in the management of various finger defects, because of ease of operative technique, less invasive surgery, decreased need of skin graft, and shorter period of hospitalization and healing time.
일측성선조체의 6-OHDA손상 후 도파민효능약물 투여로 발현된 회전운동의 특성

The present study examined the characteristics of behavior induced by dopamine agonists following treatment with 6-hydroxydopamine(6-OHDA) unilaterally into left striatum in rats. 6-OHDA was administered at doses of 8.16 and 24 ㎍/2㎕(in 0.1% ascorbic acid) into dopaminergic neurons in left striatum of 7 weeks old rat under anesthetic. Locomotor activity was significantly decreased at 1 week following 6-OHDA-administration in 7 weeks old rats. The contralateral circling behaviour was inducd by apomorphine(5 ㎎/㎏, I.p.) after 1 week following 6-OHDA(24 ㎍/2㎕) treatment, and was further increased by repeated administration of apomorphine at 2, 3 and 4 weeks. The contralateral circling behavior was also induced by lisuride and 1-dopa in a dose dependent manner, but not by SK & F 82526 in 7 weeks old rats treated with 6-OHDA, The contralteral circling behavior ws significantly higher in 21 weeks old rats but significantly lower in 35 weeks old rats when compared with 7 weeks old rats. The contralateral circling behavior induced by apomorphine did not differ significantly in and 35 weeks old male and female rats. These results suggest that 6-OHDA treatment into left striatum causes remarkable destruction of intrastriatal dopaminergic neurons leading to dopaminergic receptor supersensitivity. Thus, the contralateral circling behavior induced by apomorphine may be used as indicator for neurodegenerative diseases.
Hypocholesterolemic Effects of Soybean Lecithin in Cholesterol-Fed Rats

The present study was performed to elucidate the hypocholesterolemic action of lecithin on the diet-induced hypercholesterolemia in rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats (n=24) were fed lecithin-free (control) diet or diets containing 2% or 5% lecithin for 4 weeks. Hypercholesterolemia was induced by adding 1% cholesterol and 0.5% cholic acid to all diets. No difference was found in food intake and body weight gain among groups. The lecithin treated groups showed significant improvement in the plasma levels of total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol (p<0.05) compared to the control group, while the plasma triacylglyceride was not significantly affected. The atherogenic index and HDL-cholesterol level were decreased in the lecithin groups. The diets with 2% or 5% lecithin significantly decreased the activity of cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) by 14% or 17%, respectively. Also, lecithin diets increased the activity of lecithin: cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT). These results suggest that lecithin accounts for the hypocholesterolemic effect due to the decreased CETP activity and increased LCAT activity.
