Retrospective Analysis of Equine General Anesthesia performed at Korea Racing Authority

This study was conducted to analyze the results of inhalation anesthesia performed at the equine hospitalof Korea Racing Authority (KRA) and to find out the influencing factors on mortality during and/or after inhalationanesthesia. Among 585 cases of anesthesia, orthopedic surgery (410) was performed the most frequently, followedby colic surgery (85) and upper airway surgery (45). Twenty out of 585 horses were either euthanized or died duringand/or after anesthesia. Among those twenty horses, fourteen horses received colic surgery, three received orthopedicsurgery, and three others received upper airway surgery. The major causes of mortality were rupture of intestine incolic surgery and airway obstruction during recovery in upper airway surgery. Myopathy, refracture, laminitis werethe causes of mortality in orthopedic surgery. Consequently, the horses that received colic and upper airway surgeriesshowed significantly high mortality rate rather than horses that received orthopedic surgery (p < 0.01). According tothe results, horses that received colic surgery showed the highest mortality rate from euthanasia due to poor and graveprognosis. To reduce the perioperative mortality of horses, it is recommended to perform perioperative intensive carefor colic surgery and careful monitoring for upper airway surgery during recovery.

國産活性炭을 사용하여 수처리를 중심으로 現場설계에 있어서 기초자료획득을 위한 基礎硏究의 一還으로, 活成炭에 대한 基礎物性 調査를 行함과 아울러 Phenol, ONP, MNP, PNP의 有機化合物을 中心으로 吸着特性에 對한 實驗을 行하였다. 본 실험을 통하여 吸着塔 設計에 있어서의 基礎 data인 吸着 平衡 關係는 Freundlich의 흡착등온식에 의해 정리되었으며 이때 n값은 4.0-6.8 범위이였다. 그리고 각 유기물의 粒子內 擴散係數를 이론적 해석과 실험을 통하여 算出하여 본 결과 有效表面擴散係數의 값은 293K의 경우 0.36-1.2×10^(-12)m²/S의 範圍로 活性化에너지는 7.1-8.3 ㎉/㏖의 範圍임이 밝혀졌다. To obtain the basic engineering data such as equilibrium relationship and intraparticle diffusion coefficients for the design of activated carbon treatment plant, adsorption test of Korean activated carbon was performed with phenol, ONP, MNP and PNP. Through this experiment adsorption equilibrium relation was correlated by Freundlich equation and its n values were ranged from 4.0 to 6.8. Also the intraparticle diffusion coefficients were determined from adsorption rate measurement in a stirred tank. The effective diffusion coefficients of phenol and three nitrophenol isomer were in the range or 0.36-1.2×10^(-12)m²/s at 293K and the activation energy for diffusion was evaluated as 7.1-8.3 ㎉/㏖.

The electrocrystallization of macroscopic copper dentrites from CuSO₄-H₂SO₄ mixed solutions under various peripheral conditions such as current density, bath temperature, the concentration and convection of electrolyte, etc. was examined. As imple equation was proposed to calculate current density at the growth site of copper dentrites, which was estimated to be about 40A/㎠. X-ray analysis showed that growth direction of copper dentrites was (111) face. Consequently, it is suggested that electroforming be carried out preferably at lower levels of current density, electrolyte concentration and temperature to obtain better products.
