The purpose of this study is to serve as a reference point to attract Japanese tourists by showing how such variables as personal value and lifestyle are related to hotel selection attribute, and the relationship between hotel selection attribute and satisfaction. The results of this study are as follows: First of all, personal value, lifestyle, hotel selection attribute and satisfaction appeared to be proper concepts of study as a result of verifying the fit among personal value, lifestyle, hotel selection attribute and satisfaction. Secondly, it showed that hotel selection attribute was influenced by personal value. "Extroversion" appeared to be the most influential factor and "the sense of belonging" was the most influential variable. Thirdly, it showed that hotel selection attribute was influenced by lifestyle. "Entertainment-oriented trait" appeared to be a little more influential factor than others and "travel enjoyment" was the most influential variable. Fourth, it showed that satisfaction was influenced by hotel selection attribute, and "general image" appeared to be the most influential variable. The implications for these conclusions were discussed.

This study seeks to find out the perceived difference of performance on Kaplan and Norton's BSC (1992, 1993, 1996), which compensates for the weakness of relying solely on finances, can be used to evaluate hotel performance. Both established research and a survey were used for this study. A questionnaire was mailed to 274 first class tourist hotels for the empirical study. A total of 212 valid paper were returned from 130 hotels for a two-week survey period beginning September 25, 2001. Results show that the perceived differences of performance on BSC are found to be statistically significant by tourists' hotel grade.
