There has been a basic division within the history of the phronesis between two traditions. The first, originated with Aristotle, defines it as the capacity for rational calculation. The second, embodied by Cicero, defines it as the rhetorical performance in the world of probability. In the modern era, this second tradition has been weakened by the rise of the natural sciences, but it has remained vital in the realm of politics. One of the long-standing prejudices against Bentham, the founder of utilitarianism, is that he was a devotee of arithmetic rationality, inventing the famous calculus of pleasure and pain. In this paper, I will present a picture of Bentham as an intellectual who was faithful to a second tradition of phronesis. The main text of my research is his Book of Fallacies, written in the 1810s while he pushed for parliamentary reform. This book is Bentham's masterpiece dissecting the rhetoric of politicians ; it is as much a pierce of political satire as it is of political analysis. If we understand Bentham's intention behind the basic frame of his political analysis, which is the confrontation between few ruler and many subjects, we can also understand why he proposed antipathy rather than empathy as the indispensable pathos of a democratic society. 실천지(phronesis, prudentia) 개념의 역사는 크게 두 전통으로 나뉜다. 아리스토텔레스와 함께 시작된 첫 번째 전통은 합리적 계산 능력으로서 그것을 정의한다. 두 번째 전통은 키케로에 의해 구현된 수사학적 탁월함으로 개연성의 세상에 대처하는 지적 능력으로 정의된다. 근대 사회에서 두 번째 전통은 자연과학의 우세에 밀려 쇠약해지기는 했지만, 정치의 영역에서 여전히 생명력을 유지하고 있다. 공리주의의 창시자 벤담에 대한 오랜 편견 중 하나는 그가 쾌락 계산법을 발명한, 계산적 합리성의 맹신자라는 주장이다. 이 논문에서 필자는 오히려 실천지의 두 번째 전통에 충실했던 벤담의 모습을 소개하고자 한다. 1810년대 의회개혁을 추진하면서 그가 집필한 오류논증집 이 주요 텍스트이다. 이 책은 정치인들의 수사학을 해부한 벤담의 역작으로 한 편의 정치풍자이자 분석적 정치이론이다. ‘소수 통치자와 다수 신민’이라는 정치분석의 기본 프레임에 숨겨진 벤담의 의도는 그가 왜 공감보다 반감을 민주주의 사회의 필수적 파토스로 내세웠는지를 말해 줄 것이다.

농촌형 · 도시형 교통모델 현황 및 대중교통 취약지역 개선효과 분석

2014년부터 전국적으로 확산된 농촌형 · 도시형 교통모델은 버스서비스 공급이 원활하지 못한 지방 농촌도시의 대중교통 취약(사각)지역 주민의 이동권을 확보하며 삶의 질 개선에 긍정적인 교통수단으로 평가되고 있다. 그러나, 해당 평가결과가 농촌형·도시형 교통모델 이용자를 대상으로 한 설문만족도 수준에 머무르고 있어, 사업 확대를 위한 객관적인 비교 가능성을 확보하지 못하는 단점이 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 농촌형 · 도시형 교통모델이 도출한 사회적 영향 즉 대중교통 공백지역의 서비스 개선효과를 측정하여 농촌형 · 도시형 교통모델 사업추진에 필요한 의사결정모델을 구축한다. 이를 위해, 대중교통 취약(사각)지역을 조작적으로 정의하고 지리정보시스템(GIS)의 인접분석, 공간결합, 중첩분석을 통해 충청남도 시 · 군 지역을 대상으로 농촌형 · 도시형 교통모델 사업으로 인한 대중교통 취약(사각)지역 해소율을 비교 · 분석하고, 사업을 체계적으로 관리하기 위한 목표지향형 관리모델 도입을 제안한다.

Preliminary aerodynamic design of a compressor is carried out to meet the design requirements which are pressure ratio of 13, air mass flow rate of 4 ㎏/s and rotational speed of 45,000 rpm. The compressor type is chosen as an axial-centrifugal compressor from the design requirements which is suitable for a medium power class turboprop or turboshaft engine. Its overall isentropic efficiency is estimated to be 0.796 and its surge margin to be 20% exceeding the design requirement. This paper summarizes the aerodynamic design details including the design procedures and the results of the axial -centrifugal compressor.

무선 환경에서 사용자 검색 성향을 반영한 웹 방송 정보 재구성 기법

Today the fastest growing communities of web users are mobile visitors who browse web page with wireless PDAs and cellular phones. However, most web pages are optimized exclusively for desktop clients on the broadband network and are inconvenient to users with small screen mobile devices. They display only a few lines of text and cannot run client-side programs or scripts due to lack of system resource. Even worse, their connections are usually slow to support most of the data-intensive applications. In this paper, we propose a pageslet scheme that makes it feasible to browse ordinary web pages on small screen mobile devices. It extracts broadcasting sections of user preference from broadcasting web pages and automatically reorganizes the extracted sections for convenient browsing on mobile devices. 최근 다양한 무선 단말기의 보급과 네트워크 기술의 발전으로 인하여 무선 단말기를 이용한 인터넷 접속이 보편화되고 있다. 특히 디지털 방송의 도입에 따른 다양한 방송 프로그램과 방송사 뉴스 서비스는 무선 단말기의 제한된 환경에서의 이용률이 높다. 그러나 대부분의 방송사 웹 페이지들은 한 페이지에 많은 내용으로 인한 세분화된 섹션을 담고 있기 때문에 제한된 화면과 입력장치를 가진 무선 단말기를 이용하여 사용자가 원하는 부분에 접근하기까지 반복적인 스크롤링을 해야 하는 불편함이 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 방송사 웹 페이지 내에서 실시간으로 사용자가 선호하는 방송사 웹 페이지의 섹션을 추출하고, 무선 환경에 적합하도록 각 섹션의 순서를 재구성하여 무선 단말기에 제공해 주는 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 기법을 통해 사용자는 무선 단말기의 단점을 극복함과 동시에 방송사 웹에서 선호하는 섹션의 맞춤형 방송사 웹 서비스를 제공받을 수 있다.

Colonic irrigation is a procedure in which large quantities of liquids are infused into the colon via the rectum through a tube, in an effort to wash away and remove fecal materials. Liquids mostly used in colonics include water and coffee. This procedure has been performed generally in the alternative medicine community and becomes more popular in recent years. However, physicians criticize its potential hazards by insisting that there are not of any scientifically proven health benefit of this procedure. With the current popularity of colonic irrigation, it is important to investigate the adverse effect of colonic irrigation which has not been known or published yet. We report a case of 56 years old female with colonic injury after colonic irrigation. 장세척이란 물이나 커피 등의 수액을 직장을 통해 높은 수압으로 주입과 배출을 반복하면서 장내 노폐물을 제거하는 시술이다. 지금까지 주로 대체의학계를 중심으로 시행되어 왔으며 최근에는 국내에서도 한의원을 중심으로 선풍적으로 유행하고 있다. 하지만 많은 연구에도 불구하고 그 효과를 입증하지 못했고 치명적인 부작용의 가능성 때문에 의료계 내에서는 장세척에 대해서 비판적인 시각을 가지고 있다. 최근 장세척이 유행함에 따라 부작용에 대한 연구와 고찰이 중요하게 되었지만 아직 이에 대한 공식적인 보고는 많지 않았다. 장세척 후의 부작용은 국외에서는 천공과 패혈증이 발생한 증례 보고가 있었지만 국내에서는 아직 보고된 바 없다. 저자들은 장세척 이후 복통, 설사 및 혈변을 주소로 내원한 56세 여자환자에게서 S상 결장에 발생한 장손상 1예를 경험하였기에 이를 보고하는 바이다.
