        The Fracture of the tibia is the most common on fracture of the long bone and has high complication rates due to it's anatomical property. Segmental fractures are characterized by two or more fractures on different levels of the shaft with an intermediate segment. In addition to general characteristics of tibial fracture, segmental fractures are commonly combined with extensive soft tissue injury comminution and displacement with poor blood supply in it's intermediate segment. Recently, closed intramedullary nailing under the image intensifier has been widely used and its good results have been reported. The purpose of this study is to compart the bony union, functional result and complication between Ender nail and interlocking nail which we treated with intramedullary nailing in 20 segmental tibial fractures of 19 patients from 1990 to 1991. Minimum follow up period was 12 months. The results were as follows : 1. The most common type of fractures was Melis type Ⅰ. 2. All fractures were united and average union time was 24.9 weeks. 3. The major complications were delayed union (6 cases) joint stiffness (6 cases), superficial infection (3 cases), and angular deformity (2 cases). The complication rate in Ender nail was higher than Interlocking nail. 4. According to the criteria of functional results by Klemm and Borner. we obtained a 87.5% of excellent and good resulted in Ender nailing group and 91.7% of excellent and good results in Interlocking nail group.

      • 치골결합의 외상성 분리에 대한 치료

        The separation of symphysis pubis as a result of injury is uncommon, but it is increasing in number in parallel with today's speedy development of car industry. Most cases of the separation of symphysis pubis are amenable to closed treatments, but unstble separation where the reduction is difficult to maintain may require open techniques. Authors analyzed 27 cases of traumatic separation of symphysis pubis with 16 months follow-up on an average, who had been treated at the Orthopaedic Department, Chosun University Hospital. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The most common cause was traffic accident (81.5%). 2. Among of 27 patients, instability on the posterior stabilizer of pelvic bone was noticed in 18 patients. 3. Fifteen patients were treated with closed methods(bed rest, hammock, traction)and twelves were treated by the open reduction and internal fixation. 4. Internal fixations were carried out with plate and screw(5 cases), screw and wiring(4 cases), and wiring (3 cases). 5. The separation of symphysis pubis with minimal disruption of posterior stabilizer were treated by closed treatment or internal fixation of the separation of symphysis pubis diastasis alone, and its result was good or excellent. 6. We think that the symphysis pubis diastasis with severe disruption of posterior stabilizer should be fixed anteriorly and posteriorly both.

        In this paper, we evaluated two main QoS supporting routing protocol on wireless ad hoc network. At presence, wireless mobile communication focuses on how to efficiently support mobility of users more than QoS guarantee. However, in order to satisfy requirement of various applications which have been or will be served, QoS support service between source and destination becoming a very important issue. Of all routing protocols, DSR and AODV are very important routing protocol in MANET. So we simulated DSR and AODV QoS Routing Protocol Through simulation evaluation tool NS(Network Simulation) based on various environments.

        8.3% Carbamide Peroxide 함유 펜 형 자가미백제인 BIancTis Forte의 색조개선 및 안전성에 관한 임상연구

        This clinical study evaluated the whitening effect and safety of polymer based-pen type BlancTis Forte(NIBEC) containing 8.3% carbamide peroxide. Twenty volunteers used the BlancTis Forte whitening agent for 2 hours twice a day for 4 weeks As a control. Whitening Effect Pen (LG) containing 3% hydrogen peroxide was used by 20 volunteers using the same protocol. The change in shade (ΔE^(*) color difference) was measured using Shadepilot™ (DeguDent) before, during and after bleaching (2 weeks, 4 weeks and postbleaching 4 weeks). A clinical examination for any side effects (tooth hypersensitivity or soft tissue complications) was also performed at each check-up. The following results were obtained. 1 Both the experimental and control groups displayed a noticeable change in shade (ΔE) of over 2 No significant differences were found between the two group (p>0.05) implying that the two agents have a similar whitening effect. 2 The whitening effect was mainly due to changes in a and b values rather than in L value (brightness). The experimental group showed a significantly higher change in b value thus yellow shade than the control(p < 0.05) 3 None of the participants complained of tooth hypersensitivity or soft tissue complications confirming the safety of both whitening agents 8.3%의 carbamide peroxide를 함유한 펜형 코팅용 미백제인 BlancTis Forte (NIBEC, Seosul & JinCheon)를 실험군으로, 3% hydrogen peroxide를 함유한글 Whitening Effect Pen (LG. Seoul) 제재를 대조군으로 각각 피험자 20명에게 2시간씩 1일 2회 제조사의 지시대로 치아표면에 4주간 적용하도록 지시하고 색조개선 효능과 안전성을 평가하였다. 미백 효과는 미백 전 및 미백 2주, 4주 및 미백 종료 4주 후에 Shadopilot™을 이용하여 색 변화를 측정하였고, 매 내원시기마다 모든 환자는 치수생활력 검사와 치주 및 치태 검사를 통해 부작용 여부 (치아과민증 및 구감 내 연조직의 부작용)를 기록한 후 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1.실험군 및 대조군의 색 변화량 (ΔE)은 2이상으로 인지할 수 있는 색 변화를 보였으며, 두 제품 간에는 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보이지 않아 (p > 0.05) 유사한 미백효능을 나타냄을 알 수 있었다. 2,미백효과는 명도의 개선보다는 주로 a. b값의 변화에 의한 것으로 특히 실험군에서 b값의 변화, 즉 황색조의 개선효과가 대조군에 비해 유의성 있게 높은 것으로 나타났다 (p <0.05). 3.치아나 치은의 과민증이나 이상증상을 호소하는 피험자는 없어 두 제품 모두 안전성을 확인할 수 있었다.

        Sterilization effect and fatty acid composition of silkworm powder (Bombyx mori L.) by heat treatment

        The effect of heat treatment on the sterilization and fatty acid compositions of silkworm powder was carried out under the guidance of Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Food borne pathogens or microorganisms including E. coli, Salmonella spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococus aureus, Clostridium perfringens and aflatoxin, were not detected. The fatty acid composition was hardly changed after the silkworm powder was treated to a high temperature of 121 ℃. The low temperature sterilization of silkworm powder at 63 ℃ decreased the concentration of E. coli while high temperature sterilization at 121 ℃ has found no traces of microorganism. © 2019 The Korean Society of Sericultural Sciences Int.       • Egr-1 Mediates Transcriptional Activation of IGF-Ⅱ Gene in Response to Hypoxia

        We have previously reported that the exposure of human HepG2 cells to hypoxic conditions results in the overexpression of human insulin-like growth factor Ⅱ (IGF_Ⅱ) mRNA whose size is 6.0 kb. This particular size of IGF-Ⅱ mRNA is transcribed under the control of the IGF-Ⅱ P3 promoter. In the present study, to delineate the molecular mechanism for the activation of the IGF-Ⅱ gene, we examined the induction of P3 promoter activity in HepG2-cells by hypoxia in the transient expression system. In this system, thpoxia induced a linear increase within 24 h in the expression of luciferase that was driven by the IGF-Ⅱ P3 promoter. To pattern of regulators of the P3 promoter, Egr-1, Sp-1, and WT1, were analyzed by reverse transcription-PCR and Northern blot analysis. We contrast, the level of WT1, a repressor of IGF-Ⅱ expression, was markedly decreased during hypoxia. The mRNA stability assay revealed that the induction of transcription is the mechanism of underlying Egr-1 mRNA elevation. We then investigated the effects of hypoxia on the DNA binding activity of Egr-1. Both electrophoretic mobility shift assay and supershift assay demonstrated that the DNA binding activity of the Egr-1 protein was increased by hypoxia. In addition, the level of Egr-1 protein increased under the hypoxia as determined by Western blot analysis. Cotransfection of HepG2 cells with an Egr-1 expression vector and an IGF-Ⅱ P3 promoter-luciferase reporter plasmid showed that the transcription of IGF-Ⅱ was activated by Egr-1 in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, the elecation of IGF-Ⅱ P3 promoter activity was induced synergistically by the cotreatment of hypoxia whth Egr-1 overexpression. Deletion of sequences in the IGF-Ⅱ P3 promoter containing Egr-1 binding sites did not respond to hypoxic stress. Taken together, these data strongly indicate that hypoxia-induced IGF-Ⅱ expression in HepG2 cells is due to the enhanced activity of Egr-1 on the IGF-Ⅱ P3 promoter and that the Egr-1 binding site in the IGF-Ⅱ P3 promoter is essential for the transcriptional regulation of IGF-Ⅱ under hypoxic conditions.

        <P>A proto-type hybrid electro-magnetic suspension system (hybrid EMS system) was developed by Yonsei university . It is the first step of study on fundamental technology for advanced railroad system development. The proto-type hybrid EMS system consists of a ferromagnetic-core, a superconducting magnet (Bi-2223) for generating magneto-motive force (MMF) and a control coil for levitation control. This system has the characteristic of a control coil generating a magnetic flux to keep the levitation gap in constant value when the gap is attempted to be varied by external physical factors. In doing so, the induced current by the magnetic flux generate loss to the superconducting magnet inducing the possibility of an unstable system. Therefore, we have experimented and documented the results of evaluating the loss in the superconducting magnet generated by the control coil. This paper can be expected to suggest useful data for the design and operation of a hybrid EMS system.</P>

        Cytocompatibility of silkworm cocoon layer extracts

        Recently silk polymer produced by Bombyx mori silkworm has been considered as biological macromolecules. Silk polymer was extracted in PBS solution at 37℃ for 72 h or 72℃ for 24 h. The effect of EtOH treatment on the cocoon extraction was also examined. The extraction yield of cocoon was less than 1 wt% regardless of extraction conditions. UV spectroscopy showed that the experimental extracts have absorption bands at 280 nm. There is no cytotoxicity effect on the mouse fibroblast L929 cell. The phenotype of L929 cell was not changed under the experimental conditions. The proliferation behavior of L929 cell was not affected by the addition of cocoon extract. Therefore, cocoon extract might be cytocompatible and can be used as promising biomaterials.
