        혼합 식물추출물에 대한 차응애의 감수성 검정

        The acaricidal activity of the mixed plant extracts of Gleditsia japonica var. koraien, Camellia sinensis, Cinnamomum cassia, and Lantana camara, toward the tea red spider mite, Tetranychus kanzawai Kishida was evaluated in laboratory bioassays. Treatments with mixtures 1 and 3 were effective against the adult females of T. kanzawai and yielded 87.0 and 85.6% adulticidal activity at 7 days after treatment, respectively. Mixture 3 revealed 78.7% adulticidal activity. However, mixtures 4 and 5 had lower adulticidal activity than the other treatments. The adult females of T. kanzawai treated with mixtures 1 and 3 produced only 22.5-22.8% as many eggs as did the control females. The residue of the plant extracts tested had low adulticidal activity (16.3-27.2%). All of the plant extracts tested were ineffective against the eggs of T. kanzawai. Treatments with mixtures 1 and 3 were effective against the nymphs of T. kanzawai and led to emergence rates of 20.7 and 25.3%, respectively. These results suggest that mixtures 1 and 3 might be used for the control of T. kanzawai.

        <B>Purpose: </B>PET-CT is often used to differentiate benign or malignant thyroid incidentalomas. In this retrospective study, we evaluated whether the <SUP>18</SUP>F-FDG uptake pattern and PET-CT findings improved accuracy over the standardized uptake value (SUV). <B>Methods:</B> <SUP>18</SUP>F-FDG PET-CT was performed on 2,178 subjects from August, 2004, to October, 2007, in Sung-ae Hospital. PET-CT was performed on 806 patients (37%) with suspected or known nonthyroidal cancer and 1,372 healthy subjects (63%) without a previous history of cancer. We investigated the clinical characteristics of patients, history, standardized uptake value (SUV), ultrasonography, and hormone levels in blood. Thyroidal cancer was confirmed by ultrasonography-guided fine needle aspiration and pathology after thyroid operation. <B>Results:</B> The prevalence of focal thyroid lesions on PET-CT was 8.8% (191/2178). Thyroid cancer confirmation was 7.9% (15/191). The maximum SUV of malignant thyroid lesions were significantly higher than that of benign lesions (7.00±3.08 vs. 4.49±1.84, P<0.001). <B>Conclusion:</B> PET-CT image interpretation that includes 18F-FDG uptake and SUV is better than PET-CT alone for differentiating benign and malignant lesions.         김만덕의 기업가정신에 대한 연구

        본 연구의 목적은 김만덕이 성공한 CEO로서 보여준 기업가정신을 체계적으로 살펴보고, 그녀가 지녔던 기업가정신이 우리에게 주는 시사점을 도출하는데 있다. 논문은 크게 두 부분으로 구성되어 있다. 첫 번째는 김만덕의 생애와 김만덕이 CEO로 역할을 수행했던 당시의 시대적 배경을 살펴보았다. 두 번째는 김만덕이 보여준 기업가정신을 분석하여 시사점을 도출하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 먼저 기업가정신의 일반적인 내용을 살펴본 후, 조선시대 최초 여성 CEO 김만덕의 기업가정신을 분석하여 시사점을 찾고자 하였다. 김만덕이 보여준 기업가정신을 파악하기 위하여 개인 차원에서 기업가정신을 연구한 Chrisman et al.(1998)이 제시한 특성 중에서 창업 경험을 제외하고 인성적 특성, 가치 및 신념, 능력, 행동적 특성 등 4가지 관점에서 김만덕이 보여준 기업가정신을 분석하였다. 김만덕에 관한 대부분의 기록과 작품들은 김만덕의 삶과 행적을 긍정적으로 묘사하고 있다. 따라서 김만덕의 삶을 객관적으로 조명하는 가운데 김만덕이 보여준 기업가로서 의 정신적 가치를 발굴하고 현대적 관점에서 재평가하는 작업은 필요하다. 다만 제한된 지면의 사료나 자료에 의존하여 이루어진 평가이기 때문에 주의가 필요하다고 생각된다. The purpose of this paper was to identify the entrepreneurship of Kim Man Deok. This paper was divided into two parts : first is the Kim Man Deok s life stages and characteristic of the age, second is the entrepreneurship of Kim Man Deok. Kim Man Deok‘s life was divided into three time periods : fight against fate, as a CEO, donating her possession to society. And the entrepreneurship of Kim Man Deok were examined : personality and characteristics, values and beliefs, skills, behaviors and decisions. Kim Man Deok(1739-1812), who was living in Jeju Island. She became one of the richest persons living on Jeju Island after overcoming various difficulties in the previous 200 years. Kim Man deok was the first female CEO in Korean history. Kim Man Deok was a shrewd entrepreneur, who knew how to foresee future trends and stood apart from other great women of the Joseon era. Kim Man Deok s life inspired Jeju residents and remains one of the most respected figures.

      • Electical Characteristics and Efficiency of Organic Light-Emitting Diodes Depending on Thickness Variation of Buffer Layer

        In a device structure of ITO/hole injection layer/N, N'-biphenyl-N, N'-bis-(1-naphenyl)-[1,1'-biphenyl]4,4'-diamine(NPB)/tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum(Alq_(3))/A1, we investigated an effect of hole-injection layer on the electrical characteristics and efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes. A thermal evaporation was performed to make a thickness of NPB layer with a rate of 0.5~1.0Å/s in a base pressure of 5×10^(-6) Torr. We measured current-voltage characteristics and efficiency with a thickness variation of hole-injection layer. The PTFE and PVK buffer layers improve a performance of the device in several aspects, such as good mechanical junction, reducing the operating voltage and energy band adjustment. Compared with the devices without a hole-injection layer, we have obtained that an optimal thickness of NPB was 20 nm in th device structure of ITO/NPB/Alq_(3)/Al. And using the PTFE or PVK buffer layer, the external quantum efficiencies of the devices were improved by 24.5% and 51.3%, respectively.

      • Sarcopenia May Be Associated with the Mortality in Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma

        Aims: Sarcopenia has known as an independent predictor of clinical outcomes in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this study, we aimed to investigate the association of sarcopenia with the mortality in patients with HCC. Methods: Total of 193 HCC patients were subjected. All enrolled patients had a computed tomography at the level of the third lumbar (L3) vertebrae to determine the L3 skeletal muscle index. Sarcopenia was defined using previously established cutpoints. They were followed up for a median 12 months (range, 1-80). Results: Median age was 58 years (range, 36-86), 80% of patients were male, 62% Child -Pugh class A and 70% were positive for HBsAg. Only 23 patients (12%) could undergo curative treatment (surgical resection, liver transplantation, radiofrequency ablation) Sacopenia was present in 106 patients (55%). By univariate analysis, sarcopenia (OR=2.08; 95% CI 1.12-3.87: P =0.021), Child-Pugh score (OR=1.38; 95% CI 0.92-191.12: P <0.001), tumor number (OR=3.01; 95% CI 1.55-5.85: P=0.001), tumor size (OR=1.10; 95% CI 1.02-1.187: P =0.01), portal vein thrombosis (OR=3.00; 95% CI 1.45-6.21: P =0.003) and curative treatment of HCC (OR=0.13; 95% CI 0.04-0.39: P <0.001) were associated with mortality. By multivariate analysis, sarcopenia (OR=2.13; 95% CI 1.01-4.54: P =0.021) and curative treatment of HCC (OR=0.26; 95% CI 0.08-0.87: P=0.029) were closely associated with mortality. There was no correlation with age, gender, cirrhosis, diabetes mellitus, prevalence of hepatitis surface antigen positivity, underlying renal function, body mass index, platelet count, baseline AFP level, Child-Pugh score, tumor size, tumor number and portal vein thrombosis. Conclusions: Our data suggested that sarcopenia and curative treatment of HCC may be closely associated with the mortality in HCC patients.

      • The Predicting Factors for Mortality after Hip Surgery in Cirrhotic Patients

        Aims: Cirrhosis increases the risk of osteoporosis and fracture. However, there are sparse data about outcome of hip fracture in cirrhotic patients. We investigated the predictors for mortality in cirrhotic patients with hip fracture underwent surgery. Methods: A total of 56 cirrhotic patients with hip surgery were retrospectively enrolled between 2006 and 2015. The cause of cirrhosis, Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP), model for end stage liver disease (MELD) score, operation record, peri-operative complication, hospital length of stay, in-hospital, 6-month and 1-year mortality after hip fracture were investigated. Results: Six patients (11%) died after hip surgery. Serum platelet, CTP and MELD score at the time of admission were associated with in-hospital mortality. On multivariate analysis, CTP and MELD score were independent factors predicting in-hospital mortality (CTP score: relative risk, 3.219; 95% CI, 1.378 to 7.520; P=0.007, MELD score: relative risk, 3.772; 95% CI, 1.038 to 13.707; P=0.044). The AUROC of MELD score was 0.925 (P=0.001; 95% CI: 0.832-1.00). MELD score ≥ 12.5 was associated with in-hospital mortality. (sensitivity 100%, specificity 76%). Six months and one year after surgery, 18 patients (32.1%) and 25 patients (44.6%) died, respectively. MELD score and the cause of cirrhosis (alcohol) were associated with 6-month and 1-year mortality. On multivariate analysis, MELD score was independent factor predicting 6-month mortality (relative risk, 1.158; 95% CI, 1.009 to 1.329; P=0.037) and the cause of cirrhosis (alcohol) was the only independent factor predicting 1-year mortality (relative risk, 4.222; 95% CI, 1.197 to 14.896; P=0.025). Conclusions: CTP and MELD score were important predictors for in-hospital mortality after hip surgery in cirrhotic patients. Although the hip surgery was performed successfully, long term prognosis was poor especially in alcoholic cirrhotic patients.

        Characterization of Physicochemical Properties of Starch in Barley Irradiated with Proton Beam

        The study was carried out to determine the gel pasting properties of barley (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Geoncheonheugbori) as affected by different proton beam irradiation. The λmax, blue value, and amylose content were significantly associated with increasing proton beam irradiation. The pasting time in barley flour irradiated with proton beam ranged 0.09 to 0.16 min shorter than nonirradiated barley flour. Gel pasting temperature ranged 57.4 to 60.5℃. Gel pasting temperature in barley flour decreased with increasing proton beam irradiation. Proton beam irradiation caused a significant decrease in the onset temperature (To), peak temperature (Tp), conclusion temperature (Tc) and enthalpy change (ΔH). Gelatinization range (R) in barley starch was more broaden than that of non-irradiated barley starch. Barley starches gave the strong diffraction peak at around 2θ values15°, 18°, 20°, and 23° 2θ. Peak intensity tended to increase with increased proton beam irradiation. The granule crystallinity is closely associated with decreased amylose and increased amylopectin component. The crystallinity degree of barley starch irradiated with proton beam was significantly increased and it ranged from 24.9 to 32.9% compared to the non-irradiated barley starches. It might be deduced that proton beam irradiation causes significant changes of properties of starch viscosity in rice, especially at high irradiation of proton beam.

        The photoluminescence of CuInS<sub>2</sub> nanocrystals: effect of non-stoichiometry and surface modification

        <P>Effects of large copper deficiency and surface modification on the photoluminescence of CuInS<SUB>2</SUB> nanocrystals were explored. The large copper deficiency improved PL intensity due to the enhanced internal defect-related emission. Surface modification of copper deficient nanocrystals by simply refluxing with zinc acetate and fatty acid resulted in more than 10 times improvement in the photoluminescence intensity and a large blueshift of the photoluminescence spectra. The uniformity in size/shape distribution after surface modification was attributed to the origin of shrinkage in Stokes shift from ∼600 meV to ∼300 meV in Cu<SUB>0.2</SUB>InS<SUB>2</SUB>/ZnS nanocrystals. Furthermore, the contribution of lattice strain to this large blueshift in emission wavelength in Cu<SUB>0.2</SUB>InS<SUB>2</SUB>/ZnS nanocrystals was proposed and tested with the CdS shell layers. The electronic process underlying the large enhancement of PL intensity was studied with time-resolved and temperature-dependent photoluminescence. This drastically enhanced photoluminescence after surface modification was attributed to the efficient reduction of non-radiative recombination originated from surface trap states, the activation energy of which was estimated to be 85 meV.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>The electronic processes underlying the large enhancement of photoluminescence from CuInS<SUB>2</SUB> nanocrystals by copper deficiency and surface modification were explored. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c1jm13170b'> </P>
