Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibria (VLE) of four binary systems--methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE)+methanol. MTBE+heptane, MTBE+octane and MTBE+i-octane--were measured at atmospheric pressure by using Othmer-type circulation method. The VLE of ternary system. MTBE+methanol+heptane, were also measured at atmospheric pressure. These VLE data were predicted by ASOG and correlated by Wilson equation, and the prediction and correlation performances were discussed.
Multi-step Metamagnetic Processes of PrPd2Si2 Single Crystal

Magnetic studies were performed on PrPd2Si2 single crystals which crystallize in the tetragonalThCr2Si2-type structure. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility indicates thatthe compound orders antiferromagnetically at temperatures below TN = 3.2 K. The transition wasconfirmed by specific heat measurements. Magnetization measurements at fields up to 18 T showthat the easy magnetization direction is the [100] direction in the basal plane. In the magnetizationprocess, five or four metamagnetic transitions appear; the process is a five (four)-step metamagneticone. The [110] magnetization process is a three-step one. A strong magnetic anisotropy betweenthe [100] and [110] directions is observed within the basal plane for high magnetic fields. Alongthe hard magnetization direction of the c-axis, a metamagnetic transition appears. The B[100] − Tphase diagram was constructed. A magnetic anisotropy between the [100] and [001] directions isalso strong. These behaviors are discussed based on an analysis of crystalline field effects.

A microstructure of unidirectional porous hydroxyapatite (UDPHAp) has a diameter of 100-300 μm, which pene-trates through the material. In addition, it has a porosity of 75% and initial compression strength of approximately 14 MPa. The objective of the present study was to investigate the feasibility of UDPHAp for the tibial wedge osteot-omy in canines. We performed the operation on the right tibia of the dogs, and a wedge-shaped UDPHAp was implanted in the gap after the osteotomy. At 6 and 12 weeks after the operation, the specimens were solid and bony union could be macroscopically observed. Radiological examination revealed that complete consolidation between the osteotomy site and the UDPHAp was established at 12 weeks. Histological evaluation revealed fibrous tissues between the host bone and the UDPHAp at 6 weeks, although new bone formation was observed at the edges of the material. At 12 weeks, direct bonding and bone ingrowth was observed. This study indicates that UDPHAp has great potential for use as a bone substitute for open-wedge high tibail osteotomy in clinical condition.

Background/Aims: Cholecystitis can occur after the placement of covered self-expandable metallic stents for distal malignant biliaryobstructions. We aimed to identify risk factors for cholecystitis following covered self-expandable metallic stent placement. Methods: We investigated risk factors related to cholecystitis following covered self-expandable metallic stent placement in 118patients with distal malignant biliary obstructions between January 1, 2015 and April 30, 2019. Endoscopic assessments and tumorinvasion to the arteries feeding the gallbladder were determined by a pancreaticobiliary endoscopist and a radiologist, respectively. Results: The median patient age was 72 years (men, 61.0%). The flow of the contrast agent into the gallbladder and tumorinvolvement in the orifice of the cystic duct were observed in 35 (29.7%) and 35 (29.7%) patients, respectively. During theobservation period (median, 179 days), cholecystitis occurred in 18 (15.3%) patients. Multivariate analysis revealed the flow ofthe contrast agent into the gallbladder (p=0.023) and tumor involvement in the orifice of the cystic duct (p=0.005) as significantindependent risk factors associated with cholecystitis. Conclusions: The flow of the contrast agent into the gallbladder and tumor involvement in the orifice of the cystic duct are potentialindependent risk factors for cholecystitis following the placement of covered self-expandable metallic stents. A follow-up prospectivestudy is warranted to validate their influence.

A strict anaerobe, Prevotella melaninogenica is highly sensitive to oxidative stress. Oxidative stress such as exposure to oxygen or addition of hydrogen peroxide, increased 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (80HdG), a typical of oxidative DNA damage, and decreased the bacterial cell survival rate. We could detect the generation of reactive oxygen species in P. melaninogenica after exposure to oxygen. UVA irradiation also increased 80HdG in the bacterium. On the other hand, such oxidative stress did not increase 80HdG in a facultative anaerobe. These findings suggest that P. melaninogenica is a suitable material to study the biological effects of oxidative stress, to evaluate antioxidants, and to study the effects of oxygen or reactive oxygen species on molecular evolution.
Novel Inversion Theory and Sensor Structure of Biomimicry Directional Microphone

Micromachined directional microphones(sound source localization sensor) mimicking an auditory organ of Ormia Ochracea have been intensively studied based on center-supported, marginally free1-Dor2-D diaphragm struc-tures. This paper first describes an exact mathematical theory of sound source localization based on the partial differential equation(pde) for mulation of the problem and the weighted integral method to obtain an exact direct algebraic solution of the sound distance and direction. This theory shows a Gaussian weight function on the diaphragm is inevitable in thetransduction of 1st and 2nd moments. An analysis was performed to obtain the weight distribution assuming an arbitrary thickness distribution of a shell-structured diaphragm. The best result was amarginally-supported face-to-face cantilever structure. We fabricated this structure using SOI wafer and RIE. The experimental results show a strong dependence of the vibration pattern on both zenith and azimuth angles, and a greatly enhanced sensitivity to inclined sound pressure.
