        This study investigates the external characteristics and the distribution frequency of gravels at the beach of Kumho river. The gravels in external form can be classified to color, hardness, rock texture, feeling and shape with an naked eye according to the each original rocks. These external features of gravels in study area are controlled by the physical property formed by the genesis of each original rock. The distribution frequency of gravel numbers at the beach occurs in volcanic rock>sedimentary rock>contact metarmorphic rock>granitic rock in sequence. It is suggested that this distribution feature can be explained by the distribution area of provenance and the stability of physical weathering to each original rocks.

        It is one of the most effective ways of teaching natural science at school, directly from nature on the spot. Here, as the practicable way for this education, the materials of natural resources for this class in the rural area should be necessary for this study. Therefore, as the objects of this study, the 440 teachers at the primary schools in Taegu city and Kyungbuk province were given the questionnaire about the present statues of teaching materials for the classes of science at the schools for this study and some of the problems were found. Thus, the way of solving problems was groped as the findings, and they were adapted in the science teaching classes at the schools. Then the way of teaching by this study was much more effected than expected for this education. Therefore this way should be used in the classes and will be expected better for the field of this study.

        Two subjects, Science teaching method and Study of the subject matters, are established to let students have the ability to teach the elementary science. It is an overwthelming view that Science teaching method course are merely divided into the above-mentioned two subjects by the elevation from the junior college to the senior one. But the authors discussed this theme on the junior college to the senior one. But the authors discussed this theme on the viewpoint that Study of the subject matters, newly established, is the result reflecting the significance of the elevation, not just the division of Science teaching method course inaugurated in the junior college period. The subject matters in the elementary school should include the fundamental concepts to attain the goal of the subject. That is, the subject matters should include the learning contents with the educational significance. Therefore, Study of the subject matters is defined as studying what these contents may signify educationally. From these points of view, Study of the subject matters is: 1) the study intended for the subject matters of the elementary school. That is ① what the fundamental concepts are, ② how they are related each other, ③ what their educational significance is. 2) to study the educational significance of the other subject contents. 3) a study for establishing the pertinent goal and selecting the subject matters to attain this goal when the educational conditions, such as the actual state and environment of children, are given. The authors discussed about article 1) in this paper.

        Prediction of Postoperative Lung Function in Lung Cancer Patients Using Machine Learning Models

        Background: Surgical resection is the standard treatment for early-stage lung cancer. Since postoperative lung function is related to mortality, predicted postoperative lung function is used to determine the treatment modality. The aim of this study was to evaluate the predictive performance of linear regression and machine learning models. Methods: We extracted data from the Clinical Data Warehouse and developed three sets: set I, the linear regression model; set II, machine learning models omitting the missing data: and set III, machine learning models imputing the missing data. Six machine learning models, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), Ridge regression, ElasticNet, Random Forest, eXtreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), and the light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM) were implemented. The forced expiratory volume in 1 second measured 6 months after surgery was defined as the outcome. Five-fold cross-validation was performed for hyperparameter tuning of the machine learning models. The dataset was split into training and test datasets at a 70:30 ratio. Implementation was done after dataset splitting in set III. Predictive performance was evaluated by R<sup>2</sup> and mean squared error (MSE) in the three sets. Results: A total of 1,487 patients were included in sets I and III and 896 patients were included in set II. In set I, the R<sup>2</sup> value was 0.27 and in set II, LightGBM was the best model with the highest R<sup>2</sup> value of 0.5 and the lowest MSE of 154.95. In set III, LightGBM was the best model with the highest R<sup>2</sup> value of 0.56 and the lowest MSE of 174.07. Conclusion: The LightGBM model showed the best performance in predicting postoperative lung function.

        The Learning Curve for Laparoscopic Totally Extraperitoneal Herniorrhaphy by Logarithmic Function

        Purpose: Totally extraperitoneal (TEP) hernia repair has gained in popularity in the past two decades. Despite the advantages TEP hernia repair, the approach is hindered by the relatively long learning curve of the surgery. We tried to estimate the necessary number of repetitions of TEP hernia repair in the learning curve using logarithmic and exponential function models.Methods: We performed a retrospective review of all patients who underwent TEP hernia repair by a single surgeon consecutively at a single center. We calculated how many operations were needed to achieve a reduction in the expected operating time to mean operating time using logarithmic and exponential function models.Results: In the 91 patients, the logarithmic function model predicted that 37 cases were needed to overcome the learning curve for TEP hernia repair while the exponential model predicted that 39 cases were needed.Conclusion: According to this study, at least 37 to 39 cases are needed in the overcome learning curve of TEP hernia repair. Further studies are needed to optimize surgical education and maximize quality.

        Extravascular manifestations of Takayasu arteritis: focusing on the features shared with spondyloarthritis

        <P><B>Background</B></P><P>Takayasu arteritis (TAK) is a systemic disease characterized by large vessel involvement. Although the vascular characteristics of TAK are well characterized, there is no well-organized study demonstrating the extravascular manifestations of TAK. We aimed to evaluate the characteristics of extravascular manifestations of TAK, and to identify the association between vascular and extravascular manifestations of TAK.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>TAK patients from two independent cohorts between January 2012 and October 2017 were included in the study. Patient characteristics were retrospectively collected from the electronic dataset. The computed tomography scans of all subjects were reviewed to evaluate the pattern of vascular involvement and presence of sacroiliitis. Clinical findings including uveitis, skin lesions, oral ulcers, arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) were reviewed. Logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the association between vascular and extravascular manifestations.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>For the 268 TAK patients, the mean age at diagnosis was 41.2 ± 14.2 years and 88.1% were female. The extravascular manifestation of TAK was observed in 19.0% of patients, the most common being arthritis including sacroiliitis (11.9%) followed by recurrent oral ulcers (8.6%) and IBD (2.6%). A multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed type IIB vascular involvement (adjusted odds ratio (OR) 2.956, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.337–6.537, <I>p</I> = 0.007) and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) (adjusted OR 1.014, 95% CI 1.003–1.025, <I>p</I> = 0.012) as significantly associated with the presence of axial and peripheral arthritis.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Extravascular manifestations of TAK were observed in up to one-fifth of patients. The most common extravascular manifestation was arthritis, which was associated with a type IIB vascular involvement pattern and a high ESR.</P>

        로봇교육에서 보조교사 지원 유형이 학습자의 창의성과 자기효능감에 미치는 영향

        이 연구의 목적은 로봇교육 특히, 로봇교육 캠프에서 보조교사가 학습자를 지원하는 유형에 따라서 학습자들의 창의성과 자기효능감에 어떤 변화가 있는지 확인하는 것이다. 연구의 대상은 캠프 참가자 초등학생 72명을 9명씩 1모둠으로 총 8모둠을 구성하여, 이중 4모둠은 보조교사가 공동 참여, 나머지 4모둠은 필요한 정보나 질문에 대한 피드백을 제공하는 형태로 지원하도록 하였다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 가설은 보조교사가 학생들의 로봇 제작과 프로그래밍 활동에 지원하는 형태에 따라 학습자의 창의성과 자기효능감에는 유의미한 차이가 없을 것이다로 설정하였다. 이와 같은 가설을 검증하기 위하여 이질 통제 집단 전후 검사 설계 방식을 적용하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 보조교사 지원 유형에 따라 학습자의 창의성은 유의미한 차이가 없었으나, 자기효능 감에서는 보조교사가 공동으로 참여한 학생 집단보다 보조교사가 학습자들이 필요한 정보나 질문에 피드백을 제공하는 지원 형태의 학생 집단이 자기효능감에서 높은 성취를 보였다. 이 결과는 보조교사가 직접적으로 학습자들을 도와줄 경우 학습자들은 보조교사에게 의존하여 학습의 과정에서 자기주도성 및 통제감이 떨어지기 때문으로 사료되며, 이 점은 향후 로봇교육에서 보조교사의 지원 유형에 관한 후속 연구에 시사점을 제공하리라 판단된다. The purpose of this research is to confirm that how the support type of the assistant teacher changes the students` creativity and self-efficacy in the Robot Education, particularly Robot Edu-Camp. The study objects are 72 elementary students for 8 groups; each group has 9 students, and 4 groups of them have the assistant teachers and others are supported by giving some feedbacks for their questions or some information if they need. The assumption of this study sets up as in the following; there are no differences for the students` creativity and self-efficacy between the supporting of the assistant teachers with making robots and programing together and the giving feedbacks and information if students need. To verify this assumption, we use the nonequivalent control group in the pretest-posttest designs. The result is as in the following. There`s no meaningful differences of the students` creativity by the support type of the assistant teachers. But in the self-efficacy, the groups which are giving feedbacks and information if they need have more higher level of achievement than others. The result shows that if the assistant teachers help the students directly, the students` levels of the self-direction, and control are low because they lean on the teachers. This will give you some implications to the follow-up studies about the support type of the assistant teachers in the Robot Education.
