<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Cyclophilin B (CypB) performs diverse roles in living cells, but its role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is largely unclear. To reveal its role in HCC, we investigated the induction of CypB under hypoxia and its functions in tumor cells <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo</I>. Here, we demonstrated that hypoxia‐inducible factor 1α (HIF‐1α) induces CypB under hypoxia. Interestingly, CypB protected tumor cells, even p53‐defective HCC cells, against hypoxia‐ and cisplatin‐induced apoptosis. Furthermore, it regulated the effects of HIF‐1α, including those in angiogenesis and glucose metabolism, via a positive feedback loop with HIF‐1α. The tumorigenic and chemoresistant effects of CypB were confirmed <I>in vivo</I> using a xenograft model. Finally, we showed that CypB is overexpressed in 78% and 91% of the human HCC and colon cancer tissues, respectively, and its overexpression in these cancers reduced patient survival. <I>Conclusions:</I> These results indicate that CypB induced by hypoxia stimulates the survival of HCC via a positive feedback loop with HIF‐1α, indicating that CypB is a novel candidate target for developing chemotherapeutic agents against HCC and colon cancer. 한려해상국립공원 홍도와 태안 난도의 괭이갈매기 번식현황

전세계적으로 350여종의 바닷새가 있으며 이 중 10여 종이 우리나라에서 번식한다. 바닷새는 개체군이 감소할 경우 느린 성장과 작은 한배산란수로 인해 회복하는데 많은 시간이 소요된다. 본 연구는 천연기념물로 지정된 한려해상국립공원 홍도와 태안군 난도에서 괭이갈매기 집단번식지 관리를 위한 기초자료를 수집하기 위하여 수행되었다. 조사는 2022년 5월에 수행되었으며 괭이갈매기(Black-tailed gulls, Larus crassirostris)의 알크기, 한배산란수, 둥지 밀도 등을 조사하였다. 조사 결과 한배산란수는 홍도에서 1.89±0.57, 난도에서 1.91±0.48로 나타났다. 알크기는 홍도에서 59.22±5.47㎤, 난도에서 59.63±3.96㎤로 유사하였다. 둥지 밀도는 홍도(1.27±0.18개/㎡)가 난도(0.54±0.15개/㎡)보다 유의하게 높았다. 번식 면적으로 추정된 번식개체군 크기는 홍도가 56,729쌍, 난도가 14,112쌍으로 산정되었다. 번식개체군 장기모니터링은 괭이갈매기 번식지 보호를 위해 번식 개체군 변동을 파악하는데 필요하다. Seabirds take a long time to recover if their population decreases due to slow growth and small clutch size. This study was conducted to collect basic data of breeding status of Black-tailed gulls (Larus crassirostris) on Hongdo Island of Hallyeohaesang National Park and and Nando Island. These two breeding colonies are designated as natural monuments. We investigated egg volume, clutch size and nest density in May 2022. As results, clutch size was 1.89±0.57 in Hongdo Island and 1.91±0.48 in Nando Island. The egg volume was also similar between Hongdo Island (59.22±5.47) and Nando Island (59.63±3.96). The nest density was significantly higher in Hongdo Island (1.27±0.18/㎡) than in Nando Island(0.54±0.15/㎡). Breeding population was estimated as 56,729 pairs in Hongdo Island while 14,112 pairs in Nando Island based on the proportion of breeding areas. Long-term monitoring is required to know the trends of Black-tailed gulls to protect breeding colonies.
Focus-driven prosodic restructuring patterns

Sentence-level accent redistribution and prosodic rephrasing are often required when focus is involved. This paper investigates deaccenting in English and dephrasing in Korean, providing a unified account for these two types of restructuring patterns that have previously been handled separately within the OT framework. The main proposal in this paper is that both of these restructuring patterns are motivated by high-ranked EDGEMOST (LEFTMOST/ RIGHTMOST) constraints, which refer to the manifestation of prominence and syntactic/prosodic boundaries. The new analysis has two advantages over previous studies such as Truckenbrodt (1995) and Selkirk (2000). Theoretically, it solves the input specification problem in the analysis of Selkirk (2000) for English focus phrasing variation. Typologically, it removes an unnecessary parametric difference between English and Korean in describing focus restructuring patterns. Within the new proposal, English and Korean share the RIGHTMOST preference, which can be supported by the perceptual nature of pitch prominence.

<P>Diatomic halogen molecules X-2 (X = Cl/Br) favor the edge-to-face conformation on benzene with significant electrostatic interaction via halogen bonding. In contrast, they favor the stacked conformation on graphene with negligible electrostatic interaction. As the aromatic ring expands, the inner facial side becomes almost electrostatically neutral. On coronene, the two conformations are compatible.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Green roofs have become popular in urban areas as a solution to restore green space in cities and mitigate urban problems. In this study, the economic and environmental sustainability of using green roofs for rooftop agriculture (i.e., roof farms) is evaluated and compared with that of using green roofs as extensive gardens of flowers and non-edible plants with low maintenance (i.e., roof gardens) based on these two green roofs that were installed and operated for over five years in a university building in Seoul, Korea. The life cycle cost analysis results show that the total cost of the roof garden is 38.9% lower than the flat roof whereas the total cost of the roof farm is 68.3% higher than the roof garden. The environmental impacts of both the roof garden and farm were 2.4–35 times as high as those of the flat roof. The need to frequently replenish the lightweight soil over its lifetime was the main contributor to both the economic cost and environmental impacts of the roof farm, suggesting a need to develop cost-effective and environmentally benign lightweight soil materials. A survey was also conducted to investigate public preferences and perceptions of these two green roof options. Over 80% of the respondents expressed the necessity for green roofs in urban areas, and 79.3% preferred roof gardens over farms. Production of a New Biosurfactant by a New Yeast Species Isolated from Prunus mume Sieb. et Zucc.

Biosurfactants reduce surface and interfacial tension due to their amphiphilic properties and are an eco-friendly alternative for chemical surfactants. In this study, a new yeast strain JAF-11 that produces a biosurfactant was selected using drop collapse method, and the properties of the extracts were investigated. The nucleotide sequences of the strain were compared with closely related strains and identified based on the D1/D2 domain of the large subunit ribosomal DNA (LSU) and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions. Neodothiora populina CPC 39399T , the closest species with strain JAF-11, showed a sequence similarity of 97.75% for LSU and 94.27% for ITS, respectively. The result suggests that the strain JAF-11 represents a distinct species that cannot be assigned to any existing genus or species in the family Dothideaceae. Strain JAF-11 produced a biosurfactant reducing the surface tension of water from 72 mN/m to 34.5 mN/m on the sixth day of culture and the result of measuring the critical micelle concentration (CMC) by extracting the crude biosurfactant was found to be 24 mg/l. The molecular weight 502 of the purified biosurfactant was confirmed by measuring the fast atom bombardment mass spectrum. The chemical structure was analyzed by measuring 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), 13C NMR, and two-dimensional NMRs of the compound. The molecular formula was C26H46O9, and it was composed of one octanoyl group and two hexanoyl groups to myo-inositol moiety. The new biosurfactant is the first report of a compound produced by a new yeast strain, JAF-11.
