      • Variation of Harbor Oscillations in Yeongil Bay

          Today, harbor oscillation problems are the most significant factor to consider when designing harbors serving very large ships. In coastal harbors, large vessels moored in the elastic hawsers are often displaced due to the resonance between long period waves and mooring systems. As a result, cargo handling may be interrupted and the hawsers may be broken, especially when the amplification becomes extreme. The most significant harbor confronted with harbor oscillation problem in Korea is Pohang New port. Many cases of problems are being reported by the pilot association and the local office of MOMAF (Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries). However, it is difficult to prevent the arrival of long waves causing oscillation within this harbor. Moreover, the Korean government has already started a new port plan at the mouth of Yeongil Bay without addressing the problems that have occurred in Pohang New port. This study deals with the variation of harbor oscillation due to the construction of a 4.1 km breakwater at the bay mouth including the arrangement of the new berths. Numerical methods used are in fairly standard form from the extended mile slope equation. The obtained numerical results were compared with field measurement from the previous and this will bring a certain level of discussion and consideration of variation to the future port development.

        `Background : Pancreatoduodenectomy is a widely used technique in the treatment of periampullary, duodenal and cephalic pancreatic disease. Although many improvements have been made in operative technique and posmiddleerative care, pancreatoduodenectomy remains a technically difficult procedure attended by relatively high morbidity and mortality rates. Materials and methods : The hospital records of 51 patients who underwent pancreatoduodenectomy at the Chosun University Hospital between 1994 and 2001 were reviewed. Clinical data and the following morbidity and mortality were recorded The risk factors were analyzed by a Chi-square test. Results : Fifth decade was the most prevalent ages (43.1%) The mean age was 59 years (ranging from 29 to 78) and the male to female ratio was 26 to 1. The periampullary cancer was the most reason to operation (86%) and injury due to trauma, adenocarcinoma of stomach, colon cancer, chronic pancreatitis in order Posmiddleerative complications were developed in seventeen patients and anastomotic leakage was the most common complication Death within a month after operation was 3 (5.8%) and the one of the cause of death was leakage in two patients, the other cause was intraadbominal bleeding in one patients. The cardiovascular disease, pulomnary problem, diabetes, level of bilirubin were checked preoperatively and showed no statistical difference in the posmiddleerative morbidity. The other factors such as amount of bleeding, operation time were not influencing posmiddleerative complications. The occurrence of leakage in eight cases of drainage tuve inserted into the pancreaticojejunostomy site was not different from no tuve insertion statistically Conclusion: old age of the patients, diabetes mellitus and massive intraoperative hemorrhage are the risk factors influencing the results after pancreatoduodenectomy. Morbidity and mortality after pancreatoduodenctomy can be devreased if a prudent selection of paients is made and the operation is performed by accomplushed surgeon.

      • Crosslinked anion exchange membranes with primary diamine-based crosslinkers for vanadium redox flow battery application

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A series of polysulfone-based crosslinked anion exchange membranes (AEMs) with primary diamine-based crosslinkers has been prepared via simple a crosslinking process as low-cost and durable membranes for vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs). Chloromethylated polysulfone is used as a precursor polymer for crosslinked AEMs (CAPSU-x) with different degrees of crosslinking. Among the developed AEMs, CAPSU-2.5 shows outstanding dimensional stability and anion (Cl<SUP>−</SUP>, SO<SUB>4</SUB> <SUP>2−</SUP>, and OH<SUP>−</SUP>) conductivity. Moreover, CAPSU-2.5 exhibits much lower vanadium ion permeability (2.72 × 10<SUP>−8</SUP> cm<SUP>2</SUP> min<SUP>−1</SUP>) than Nafion 115 (2.88 × 10<SUP>−6</SUP> cm<SUP>2</SUP> min<SUP>−1</SUP>), which results in an excellent coulombic efficiency of 100%. The chemical and operational stabilities of the membranes have been investigated via ex situ soaking tests in 0.1 M VO<SUB>2</SUB> <SUP>+</SUP> solution and in situ operation tests for 100 cycles, respectively.         Fumaric acid와 mild heat의 병합 처리에 따른 시금치의 저장 중 미생물 제어 효과

        시금치에 fumaric acid와 mild heat의 병합처리를 통해 병원성 미생물 제어효과를 규명하고자 시금치에 E. coli O157:H7, L. mon℃ytogenes 를 접종한 후 각 단일처리 후 미생물 수 변화를 측정하였다. Fumaric acid (0.1, 0.3, 0.5%)와 mild heat (40, 50, 60℃)의 각 단일처리 실험 결과를 토대로, 병합처리를 위한 fumaric acid의 최적농도는 0.5%, mild heat 처리조건으로 50℃ 에서 5 min으로 선정하였고, 병합처리 시 L. mon℃ytogenes, E. coli O157:H7의 수는 대조구에 비해 각각 2.53, 2.62 log CFU/g 감소하였다. 그리고 신선한 시금치에 병합처리 후 4℃에서 12일간 저장하면서 미생물 수 감소 및 품질 변화를 조사하였다. 시금치의 초기 미생물 수에 있어서 대조구와 비교하여, 병합 처리구에서 총 호기성 균을 2.77 log CFU/g 감소시켰다. 특히, 저장 12일 후 병합 처리구의 총 호기성 균 수는 4.84 log CFU/g으로 대조구와 비교하여 1.82 log CFU/g의 감균 효과를 가졌다. 또한 시금치의 저장 중 Hunter 색도 값 및 비타민 C 함량에 있어서 처리구 간의 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다. 따라서 본 연구 결과, fumaric acid와 mild heat의 병합처리가 시금치의 미생물학적 안전성 유지에 효과적인 처리라고 판단된다. The objective of this study was to examine the combined effect of fumaric acid with mild heat on the inactivation of microorganisms on spinach. Spinach leaves were in℃ulated with Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria mon℃ytogenes. Based on the results of single treatment of fumaric acid (0.1, 0.3, and 0.5%) or mild heat (40, 50, and 60℃) regarding the inactivation of the in℃ulated bacteria, the optimal condition for the combined treatment was suggested to be 0.5% fumaric acid and mild heat treatment at 50℃ for 5 min. The combined treatment of fumaric acid with mild heat caused 2.53 and 2.62 log reductions of the populations of L. mon℃ytogenes and E. coli O157:H7, respectively. In addition, during storage of fresh spinach at 4℃ for 12 d, the combined treatment reduced initially the populations of total aerobic bacteria by 2.77 log CFU/g compared with the control. In particular, after 12 d of storage, the population of total aerobic bacteria for the combined treatment sample was 4.84 log CFU/g, whereas the control sample had 6.66 log CFU/g. Color and vitamin C content of spinach samples were not altered significantly by the combined treatment during storage. These results indicate that the combined treatment of fumaric acid with mild heat is an effective method to control microorganisms on spinach during storage.

        Backgrounds: One of the main problems conditioning the outcome of islet transplantation is the ability to separate a sufficient number of viable islets with preserved function. Islet purification is critically affected by all of the isolation stages. Thus, it is necessary to set up the standard isolation method that islets are separate well from acinar without compromising islet yield and viability. Methods: Twenty three adult mongrel dogs were used for the experiment of total pancreatectomy with islet isolation. The islets were properly isolated by a modified Recordi method. The obtained islets were further purified by centrifugation on discontinuous gradients using cell separation system (Model 2991, Cobe, Lakewood Colo). We evaluated islet number (islet equivalent number, 150 um equivalents/kg of recipient body weight, IEq/kg), purity, cell volume, viabilty, recovery rate, and comparison of outcome according to the isolation conditions. Results: 1) The mean of islet numbers before purification were 13543±9431Eq/kg, digestion times were 13.8±2.6 min., digestion temperature was 37.4±0.2℃, purity was 59.7?.0%, viability was 90.0±2.1%, cell volume was 4.7±1.1 mL, islet number after purification were 4064±361 IEq/kg, and recovery rate was 29±2.9%. 2) Isolated islet numbers were different according to the degree of pancreas distension with collagenase, digestion temperature, and digestion time. 3) The best conditions for islet isolation were above 37.5℃ in temperature at recirculation of collagenase, within 12 min in digestion time and well distended pancreas with collagenase. 4) According to multiple regression adjusted by variable factors, the degree of pancreas distension with collagenase and digestion time were independently associated factors for successful islet isolation. Conclusions: In this study, we concluded that the degree of pancreas distension with collagenase and digestion time were independent factors for successful islet isolation and the best conditions for islet isolation were above 37.5℃ in temperature at recirculation of collagenase, within 12 min in digestion time and well distended pancreas with collagenase.

The analysis result is case.4 is very calmness of hydraulic and numerical model test and case.1 is failed, case.2, case.3 of campared as case.3 of judged that more calmness of arrangement all borken course. 3. The analysis test results of the harbor operate rate case.1 is samall then another cases that critical wave height of anchor area but the calmness of anchor area of the case.1 that is much broarder than Hongdo anchor area therefor case.1 was decided no problme that ship is used harbor. This study result will be used of Hongdo harbor in the future for plan building of breatwater. The future for hardof high exactly as hydraulic and numerical model test especially, the will be studied numerical model test for beach reflection, breaking wave height, submerged friction.

        This study was conducted to investigated the major characteristics of genetically modified rice of "Milyang 204" originated from Dongjinbyeo compared to a non-transgenic rice varieties Dongjinbyeo and Junambyeo. Basta resistant transgenic rice lines carrying bar gene produced by the Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute were evaluated for their agronomic characters. The transgenic Japonica rice of "Milyang 204" showed inferior phenotypic traits compared to a non-transgenic rice variety Dongjinbyeo and Junambyeo. On the basis of UPOV (Union Internationale Pour la Protaection des Obtentions Vegetables) and NSMO(National Seed Management Office) the transgenic "Milyang 204" showed difference in some traits out of some agronomic traits, such as leaf color, angle of flag leaf, number of spikelets, culm length, white core and white belly compared to the nontransgenic varieties rice.

        The purpose of this study is to establish the effective direction of development in the coastal zone of Pusan and understand the concept of water front which recently employed to analyze the area of city near the sea. It has been discussed about the present condition, the problem of application of Water-front, and the direction of development in the area of shore using the concept of Water-front. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that Pusan would be the pivot of Asian and Pacific zone with Pusan harbor if the concept of Water-front and the plan of its employment is carefully arranged.

        Recently, by rapid growth of economic development, the guantity of ship movement is more increasing. The premier function of harbor is safe comming and going ancoring of the ship. Thus, provide efficient loading and unloading. To achive this role, the one of the most important things is to get calmness. The factor of influence the calmness is wave, wind and mooring condition. The most influenced thing of calmness is wave which is appear wave ratios. In this a treatise is to study the merits and demerits of the habor wave calculation method by numerical model and investigate wave character. The purpose of this treatise is to develope calculation algorithm to be used calmness calculation that is proposed by Watanabe and Maruyama. And to investigate the application, we applicated to Pusan harbor, compared and considerated with the data of Hydraulic model test(N.T.C., 1984) After this, I expected this model is so helpful to the analysis of calmness.
