      • A creative idea generation process for radical innovation from the user experience perspective

        Heekyung Moon,Sung H. Han 대한인간공학회 2015 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2015 No.10

The quality of initial ideas generated in the fuzzy front end (FFE), an initial phase of the innovation process, is considered a critical determinant for successful product innovation. Although several studies have suggested activities of the FFE, they are closely related to the incremental innovation rather than the radical innovation. The aim of this study is to develop a creative idea generation process for the FFE of radical innovation from the user experience (UX) perspective. To deal with uncommon and uncertain works in the FFE of radical innovation, existing studies from various fields were reviewed. The review results were summarized into three kinds of considerations that should be taken into account when designing the idea generation process; procedural approach, ergonomic approach, and cognitive approach. Based on the three considerations, a creative idea generation process was developed consisting of four successive phases (Future envision, Opportunity identification & analysis, Idea generation, and Idea expansion) and one supportive phase (Ideation control). This study suggests a novel process of idea generation according to the new paradigm of innovation, i.e., radical innovation of UX. The idea generation process defined in this study can help engineering designers to systematically generate as many as creative ideas in the early stage of the innovation.

      • A Guide to Designing a Customer Journey Map for Mobile Services

        Heekyung Moon,Sung H. Han,Joohwan Park,Jaemin Chun,Sang W. Hong 대한인간공학회 2014 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2014 No.11

The aim of this study is to develop a design process for a customer journey map that represent and evaluate customer experience. Many companies have been using a customer journey map to discover problems in existing services and to find business opportunities for innovation. As there is a lack of a clearly defined design process, developed customer journey maps are neither consistent nor compatible with each other. This study defined a basic structure of the customer journey map and then suggested an eleven-step design process, a combination of top-down and bottom-up approach. Three methods for generating new service ideas using the customer journey map were suggested. We illustrated this design process with an application to mobile services built upon ethnographic research with 1016 mobile device users. A total of 25 customer journey maps were developed for representative mobile application services such as a travel, a shopping, a book, and a music. The proposed design process would help service designers to develop customer journey maps systematically and find innovative service ideas.

      • Analysis of driver's dangerous situation induced by cognitive workload and distraction

        Heekyung Moon,Sung H. Han,Jaemin Chun,seunghwan Oh,Cheehwan Jang,Hossang Jo 대한인간공학회 2012 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2012 No.5

Recent statistics show that problems associated with human factors are found to be the most important causes of traffic accidents. Studies were conducted to identify the driver's risks related to human factors. However, existing studies were carried out from divert perspectives and covered only limited area of problematic situations. Therefore, a comprehensive analysis that integrated various aspects of human factors is required to identify problematic situations of driver. This study aimed to find driver's dangerous situations and specify the limitations and requirements related to them in terms of human factors. Our approach consists of following two steps; (1) collecting various factors that causes excessive cognitive workload and distraction of drivers through an intense literature survey and (2) deriving dangerous situations and analyzing the limitations and requirements for each situation. As a result, 262 factors from various literatures were categorized into four major categories; driver's physical and emotional state, competing between driving-related tasks, secondary task(s) while driving, and physical interference due to internal/external barriers. A total of 120 situations were derived by combining 262 factors with the context variables for driving. Furthermore, their limitations and requirements were analyzed. For each of the category, limitations and requirements showed different characteristics and patterns. Derived dangerous situations and corresponding limitations and requirements can be used when developing necessary functions for safe driving. In addition, the methodology in this study can be used to analyze situations caused from other dimensions such as comfort, fun, and entertainment.

Optimum Scratch Assay Condition to Evaluate Connective Tissue Growth Factor Expression for Anti-Scar Therapy

Heekyung Moon,Ae-Ri Cho Lee,Hyeyoung Yong 대한약학회 2012 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.35 No.2

To evaluate a potential anti-scar therapy, we first need to have a reliable in vitro wound model to understand dermal fibroblast response upon cell injury and how cytokine levels are changed upon different wound heal phases. An in vitro wound model with different scratch assay conditions on primary human foreskin fibroblast monolayer cultures was prepared and cytokine levels and growth properties were evaluated with the aim of determining optimum injury conditions and observation time. Morphological characteristics of differently scratched fibroblasts from 0 to 36 h post injury (1 line, 2 lines and 3 lines) were investigated. The expression of connective tissue growth factor, CTGF, which is a key mediator in hyper-tropic scarring, and relative intensity of CTGF as a function of time were determined by western blot and gelatin Zymography. After injury (1 line), CTGF level was increased more than 2-fold within 1 h and continuously increased up to 3-fold at 6 h and was leveled down to reach normal value at 36 h, at which cell migration was complete. In more serious injury (2 lines), higher expression of CTGF was observed. The down regulation of CTGF expression after CTGF siRNA/lipofectamine transfection in control, 1 line and 2 lines scratch conditions were 40%, 75% and 55%, respectively. As a model anti-CTGF based therapy, CTGF siRNA with different ratios of linear polyethyleneimine (PEI) complexes (1:1, 1:5, 1:10, 1:20 and 1:30) were prepared and down-regulation efficacy of CTGF was evaluated with our optimized scratch assay, which is 1 line injury at 6 h post injury observation time. As the cationic linear PEI ratio increased, the down regulation efficacy was increased from 20% (1:20) to 55% (1:30). As CTGF level was increased to the highest at 6 h and leveled down afterwards, CTGF level at 6 h could provide the most sensitive response upon CTGF siRNA transfection. The scratch assay in the present study can be employed as a useful experimental tool to differentiate between anti-scar therapies for their down regulation efficacy of CTGF.

      • Development of a Mobile Device Task Taxonomy for the Disabled

        ( Heekyung Moon ),( Sung H. Han ),( Hyun K. Kim ),( Joohwan Park ) 한국감성과학회 2014 춘계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.-

As the disabled become an important mobile device user group, there is a need to investigate their difficulties and requirements when using a mobile device. Due to the restricted physical ability of people with disabilities, the tasks they engage in are different from the tasks that non-disabled people engage in. Until now, the effort to identify user tasks for a mobile device has focused on the non-disabled. The aim of this study is to develop a mobile device task taxonomy for disabled users, especially focusing on people with visual, hearing, and physical impairments. To achieve this goal, we collected diverse user tasks from two kinds of existing studies: the task taxonomy for the non-disabled and the daily activity classification for the disabled. We systematically selected and supplemented user tasks and classified them based on the human information processing (HIP) perspective. Finally, a total of 16 tasks were grouped into four categories: perception, information processing, activity for information interaction, and activity for physical device setting.

      • 다문화 가족상담의 현황과 목회상담적 과제

        문희경(Heekyung Moon) 신학지남사 2015 신학지남 Vol.82 No.2

This paper will examine the current issues and problems of multicultural families and the state of support and care systems in Korea and offer practical suggestions for pastoral care and counseling to treat them. Since last several decades, Korea has changed into a multicultural society in which a rapidly increasing number of multicultural families are created by intercultural marriage and influx of immigrant workers and North Korean defectors. While some multicultural families settle down relatively smoothly in the new culture, still a significant number of others are experiencing various problems in terms of their socio-economic status and relational conflicts with their family members due to cultural differences and barriers in communication. Currently, limited support and care are channeled through the government (Ministry of Gender Equality and Family), and other forms of private and public care and support are sparse. This essay examines the status quo of care and support for the multicultural families in Korea and emphasizes the importance of family counselors’ competence in cultural awareness and social networking as well as their basic ability as a family counselor.
