Endemic malaria in the northen parts of the Republic of Korea is caused by P. vivax. And imported malaria cases in Korea from south Asia, Indian subcontinents are usually caused by P. falciparum species. We report a case P. vivax malaria after successful treatment of P falciparum malaria with a review of literatures. Co-infection of P. vivax and P. falciparum, which relapsed only with P. vivax, after successful treatment of P. falciparum malaria was considered. A 38-year old Bangladeshi woman who had lived in Korea visited our hospital due to fever and headache. Eight months ago, she was admitted to a hospital in Calcutta in India because of P. falciparum malaria. She was treated successfully with mefloquine and doxycycline. In this time she was presented with features of malaria with every-other day fever. Awaiting the species identification, we empirically prescribed mefloquine and doxycycline. But the peripheral blood smear showed erythrocytic schizogony, trophozoite and gametocytes typical of P. vivax. So she was finally treated with hydroxychloroquine and primaquine. The patients was well during outpatient follow up period.
Case Report : Spontaneous Rupture of a Gastric Stromal Tumor Causing Hemoperitoneum

We describe a 39-year-old man with spontaneous rupture of a gastric stromal tumor causing hemoperitoneum. Ultrasonography showed a large mass broadly abutting the stomach and liver. Computed tomography demonstrated a heterogeneous enhanced mass arising from the stomach and focal perforation of the tumor with hemoperitoneum; endoscopic ultrasonography showed an exophytic heterogeneous mass originating from the gastric muscle layer. Angiography revealed that the right gastric artery was the main artery supplying the tumor. A gastric stromal tumor with bloody fluid in the peritoneal cavity was seen at the laparotomy. The tumor was excised completely, and subsequent histological and immunohistochemical studies indicated that it was a gastric stromal tumor. We report a relatively rare case of gastric stromal tumor causing hemoperitoneum due to spontaneous rupture of the tumor. (Gut Liver 2010;4:278-282)

Spring orchid, Cymbidium goeringii , is one of the most important and popular species in the orchid family in Northeast Asia. The purpose of this study was to determine how closely the simple sequence repeat (SSR) genotypes match between individualplants assumed to be the same cultivar in C. goeringii . For this study, we collected 1566 samples from 17 C. goeringiicultivars of the fl ower-variant types and determined the frequencies and distribution of the combined genotypes of 13 SSRloci by the multiplex PCR method. The phylogenetic distance matrix and the principal coordinate analysis revealed that thecorrelation between horticultural phenotypes and genetic distance was loosely matched, but two cultivars of Japanese originwere clearly separated from the Korean cultivars. The results showed that the ratio of the most frequent combined genotypesin 10 cultivar groups is approximately 60%, which suggests that almost 40% of C. goeringii sold may not be genuine. This isthe fi rst forensic attempt to authenticate whether each plant is genetically genuine for the corresponding cultivars in springorchid. We suggest preparation of a guideline for DNA deposit and profi ling of the SSR genotypes for the newly registeredC. goeringii cultivars and believe that this study will be helpful for establishing a molecular genetic method for forensicauthentication of these cultivars.

Objective Circulating cell-free tumor DNA (cfDNA) is the DNA released by apoptotic and necrotic cells of the primary tumor into the blood during the period of tumor development. The cfDNA reflects the genetic and epigenetic alterations of the original tumor. TP53 mutations are a defining feature of high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma. We optimized the methods for detecting TP53 mutations in cfDNA from blood samples. We confirmed the correlation of TP53 mutation in primary ovarian cancer tissue and it in cfDNA using digital polymerase chain reaction (dPCR). Methods We found 12 frequent mutation sites in TP53 using The Cancer Genome Atlas and Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer data and manufactured 12 primers. The mutations in tissues were evaluated in fresh-frozen tissue (FFT) and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue (FFPET). We performed a prospective analysis of serial plasma samples collected from 4 patients before debulking surgery. We extracted cfDNA and calculated its concentration in blood. dPCR was used to analyze TP53 mutations in cfDNA, and we compared TP53 mutations in ovarian cancer tissue with those in cfDNA. Results Ten primers out of 12 detected the presence of TP53 mutations in FFT, FFPET, and cfDNA. In FFT and FFPET tissue, there were no significant differences. The average cfDNA concentration was 2.12±0.59 ng/mL. We also confirmed that mutations of cfDNA and those of FFT were all in R282W site. Conclusion This study developed detection methods for TP53 mutations in cfDNA in ovarian cancer patients using dPCR. The results demonstrated that there are the same TP53 mutations in both ovarian cancer tissue and cfDNA.

Background: Explosive puffing can induce changes in the chemical, nutritional, and sensory quality of red ginseng. The antioxidant properties of ethanolic extracts of red ginseng and puffed red ginseng were determined in bulk oil and oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions. Methods: Bulk oils were heated at $60^{\circ}C$ and $100^{\circ}C$ and O/W emulsions were treated under riboflavin photosensitization. In vitro antioxidant assays, including 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhudrazyl, 2,2'-azinobis-3-ethyl-benzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid, ferric reducing antioxidant power, total phenolic content, and total flavonoid content, were also performed. Results: The total ginsenoside contents of ethanolic extract from red ginseng and puffed red ginseng were 42.33 mg/g and 49.22 mg/g, respectively. All results from above in vitro antioxidant assays revealed that extracts of puffed red ginseng had significantly higher antioxidant capacities than those of red ginseng (p < 0.05). Generally, extracts of puffed red and red ginseng had high antioxidant properties in riboflavin photosensitized O/W emulsions. However, in bulk oil systems, extracts of puffed red and red ginseng inhibited or accelerated rates of lipid oxidation, depending on treatment temperature and the type of assay used. Conclusion: Although ethanolic extracts of puffed red ginseng showed stronger antioxidant capacities than those of red ginseng when in vitro assays were used, more pro-oxidant properties were observed in bulk oils and O/W emulsions.
폐롭스카이트형 산화물 촉매에 의한 프로필렌의 완전산화반응

비금속 촉매인 페롭스카이트형 산화물(ABO₃)을 제조하여, 자동차 배기가스중에 포함되어 있는 탄화수소중의 하나인 프로필렌에 대한 완전산화반응 촉매로 이용하였다. 촉매는 고온소성법에 의하여 제조하였으며, 제조된 촉매는 소성온도가 낮아짐에 따라 촉매의 표면적이 크고 활성이 좋았다. LaCoO₃와 LaMnO₃ 촉매에 있어서 A-점이온의 일부가 적당량의 Sr로 치환됨에 따라 활성이 향상되었으며, LaMn0₃ 보다는 LaCoO₃의 활성이 더 좋았다. 이는 촉매의 환원능과 밀접한 관계가 있음을 알았다. 미량의 백금을 doping시킨 촉매는 원촉매보다 활성이 좋았고, SO₂에 대한 피독에도 강하였다. 미분형반응기를 이용하여 반응차수를 결정하였으며, 반응온도가 증가함에 따라 프로필렌의 반응차수는 증가한 반면, 산소의 반응차수는 감소하였다. Perovskite-type oxides(ABO₃) were prepared and used for the complete oxidation of propylene which is one of hydrocarbons in the automobile exhaust gas. Perovskite catalysts were prepared at different calcination temperatures, and the lower calcination temperature gave the higher activity and surface area of the catalyst. In the case of LaCoO₃ and LaMnO₃, substitution of proper amount of Sr into A-site enhanced the activity, and Co showed higher activity than Mn for B-site. The results were explained with the reducibility of the catalysts. The catalysts doped with the trace amount of Pt showed higher activity and better resistance to sulfur poisoning by SO₂ than those without Pt. The reaction orders were determined, and the orders with respect to propylene and oxygen were increased and decreased with the increase of reaction temperature, respectively.

Bromo- and chlorotrimethylsilane react with selenium dioxide in halocarbon solvents and generate selenium oxybromide and oxychloride. These in-situ generated oxyhalides turned out to be very efficient for selective bromination and chlorination of aldehydes and ketones. Under carefully controlled reaction conditions, second and third introduction of halogens into carbonyl compounds can be greatly suppressed, and high yields of monohalo compounds were obtained. The product ratios of this halogenation reactions can be best explained if the reactions are assumed to involve intermediate β-ketoselenenyl chlorides.
