This document explored the neural mechanisms underpinning motor execution (ME) and motor imagery (MI), focusing on the motor cortex’s critical regions, C3 and C4. These areas are instrumental in coordinating movements, adhering to a contralateral organization. To investigate these processes, we employed functional nearinfrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) during ME and MI. Our experimental results obtained through fNIRS revealed contralateral patterns of brain activation, illustrating contralateral activation in the absence of actual movement.
DLNA-based Home Network Integrated System for I-Safety
Dahee Jeong,Yong-Suk Park,Hyun-Sik Kim,Chong Ho Yoon 한국정보통신학회 2015 2016 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE Vol.7 No.1
In this paper, a Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) guidelines based integrated home network is proposed which combines sensor networks and multimedia networks to provide indoor safety (I-Safety) services. In the proposed system, the Simple Service Discovery Protocol (SSDP) used in DLNA is modified to include sensor status data, and a gateway device is used to relay the information to the multimedia network. By aggregating detected sensor information to the DLNA network, the user can be aware of emergency situations, such as fire or intrusion detection, even when he or she is deeply immersed in multimedia contents consumption.

Objectives

Electrocardiogram (ECG) data are important for the study of cardiovascular disease and adverse drug reactions. Although the development of analytical techniques such as machine learning has improved our ability to extract useful information from ECGs, there is a lack of easily available ECG data for research purposes. We previously published an article on a database of ECG parameters and related clinical data (ECG-ViEW), which we have now updated with additional 12-lead waveform information.

Methods

All ECGs stored in portable document format (PDF) were collected from a tertiary teaching hospital in Korea over a 23-year study period. We developed software which can extract all ECG parameters and waveform information from the ECG reports in PDF format and stored it in a database (meta data) and a text file (raw waveform).

Results

Our database includes all parameters (ventricular rate, PR interval, QRS duration, QT/QTc interval, P-R-T axes, and interpretations) and 12-lead waveforms (for leads I, II, III, aVR, aVL, aVF, V1, V2, V3, V4, V5, and V6) from 1,039,550 ECGs (from 447,445 patients). Demographics, drug exposure data, diagnosis history, and laboratory test results (serum calcium, magnesium, and potassium levels) were also extracted from electronic medical records and linked to the ECG information.

Conclusions

Electrocardiogram information that includes 12 lead waveforms was extracted and transformed into a form that can be analyzed. The description and programming codes in this case report could be a reference for other researchers to build ECG databases using their own local ECG repository.

Abstract

Postprandial insulin plays a critical role in suppressing hepatic glucose production to maintain euglycemia in mammals. Insulin‐dependent activation of protein kinase B (Akt) regulates this process, in part, by inhibiting FoxO1‐dependent hepatic gluconeogenesis by direct phosphorylation and subsequent cytoplasmic exclusion. Previously, it was demonstrated that protein arginine methyltransferase 1 (PRMT1)‐dependent arginine modification of FoxO1 interferes with Akt‐dependent phosphorylation, both in cancer cells and in the Caenorhabditis elegans model, suggesting that this additional modification of FoxO1 might be critical in its transcriptional activity. In this study, we attempted to directly test the effect of arginine methylation of FoxO1 on hepatic glucose metabolism. The ectopic expression of PRMT1 enhanced messenger RNA levels of FoxO1 target genes in gluconeogenesis, resulting in increased glucose production from primary hepatocytes. Phosphorylation of FoxO1 at serine 253 was reduced with PRMT1 expression, without affecting the serine 473 phosphorylation of Akt. Conversely, knockdown of PRMT1 promoted an inhibition of FoxO1 activity and hepatic gluconeogenesis by enhancing the phosphorylation of FoxO1. In addition, genetic haploinsufficiency of Prmt1 reduced hepatic gluconeogenesis and blood‐glucose levels in mouse models, underscoring the importance of this factor in hepatic glucose metabolism in vivo. Finally, we were able to observe an amelioration of the hyperglycemic phenotype of db/db mice with PRMT1 knockdown, showing a potential importance of this protein as a therapeutic target for the treatment of diabetes. Conclusion: Our data strongly suggest that the PRMT1‐dependent regulation of FoxO1 is critical in hepatic glucose metabolism in vivo. The purpose of this study was to investigate physiological and subjective sweat responses of elderly and young males in hot and humid environments. Nine elderly and 11 young males participated in the following experimental conditions: WBGT 27℃ (Air temperature 30℃, and air humidity 70%RH) and WBGT 32℃ (35℃, 70%RH) with two activity levels (sitting on a chair for 60 min and walking on a treadmill for 60 min). The walking speeds were 4.0 km/hr for young males and 2.3 km/hr for elderly males. The results showed that 1) total sweating rate was 34.3% and 36.6% smaller for the elderly than for the young in WBGT 27℃ and 32℃, respectively (p<.05). Skin hydration at rest was less for the elderly than for the young in both WBGT 27℃ and 32-℃. The skin of the young males was quickly and evenly saturated throughout the whole body from the beginning in WBGT 32℃, whereas the elderly males’ skin was slowly and unevenly saturated. At rest, elderly males expressed greater humidity and sweat sensations in WBGT 27℃ than in WBGT 32℃ which was interpreted as perceptual confusions, while such perceptual confusions were not found during exercise in either WBGT 27℃ or WBGT 32℃. These results suggest that the elderly’s perspiration and other sweat responses in hot and humid environments were impaired psychologically as well as physiologically.

Purpose: As the mobile internet spread, patients can access to health information via mobile applications. But this information must be a reliable for treatment. This study evaluated the quality of information of mobile applications that with atopic dermatitis. Methods: On April 2014, the 98 mobile applications that had been searched on three application markets using the keywords, “atopic dermatitis” etc. were enrolled. Thirty-one applications with information about atopic dermatitis written in Korean were surveyed. The informational quality of each application was examined using DISCERN tool and we also examined authorship, price, number of downloads. And we analyzed relations between these factors and informational quality. Results: The mean score (±standard deviation) of overall rating of the publications of the 31 applications were 1.55 (±0.888) points. The overall quality of the publication was “low” in 80.6% of applications, “moderate” in 16.1%, “high” in 3.2% of the applications we evaluated. There were no significant differences between the score of price of applications in all questions. However the mean score of group of downloads 1,000 and more were 2.25 (±1.035), significantly higher than group of downloads less than 1,000, 1.30 (±0.703) (P=0.043).Conclusion: The quality of mobile applications providing health information on atopic dermatitis needs significant improvement. Some guidelines and certifications of the mobile application are needed to provide health information about atopic dermatitis, association with experts.(Allergy Asthma Respir Dis 2014;2:370-376)

( Jaewook Jin ),( Dahee Yoon ),( Sun-mi Choi ),( Woun-shik Kim ),( Jaeuk U. Kim ) 한국감성과학회 2023 한국감성과학회 국제학술대회(ICES) Vol.2023 No.-
Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a valuable tool for real-time emotion detection. This study explores the role of the Prefrontal Cortex, with a focus on blood flow changes induced by eye blinking in the Fp1 and Fp2 areas. Using Artinis Brite, four optodes were positioned based on the International 10-20 system. Participants executed left and right eye blinks, revealing distinct patterns of oxyhemoglobin. Fp1 exhibited increased activation during left blinks, while Fp2 demonstrated higher activation during right blinks. These findings challenge previous cognitive-centric fNIRS studies by highlighting responses related to facial muscles. Detecting emotions through eye movements provides efficient, non-intrusive emotional analysis, which is crucial for human-AI interactions and metaverse experiences. This innovative approach demonstrates real-time emotional monitoring using minimal sensors. This breakthrough enables accurate emotion detection without intrusive measures, advancing the field of emotional neuroscience.
