This study is an account of one-year experiment which sought a new oral course model, learner-computer interaction through CELMS Online. It aims to identify whether the CELMS online contributes to develop the students` oral abilities in EFL contexts by the learner-computer interactive process. According to the test results with two different levels of four classes, analyze and explain the benefits of learner-computer interactive oral learning process. The new oral course model has aroused the students` motivation and made students become more independent learners, improved their self-confidence. In networked CALL environment they learn a foreign language in a proactive way that encourages active communication, self-expression in English and contributes to develop students` oral abilities.

HMGB1 is associated with human cancers and is an activator of autophagy which mediates chemotherapy resistance. We here show that the mRNA levels of HMGB1 are high in leukemia cells and it is involved in the progression of childhood chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). HMGB1 decreases the sensitivity of human myeloid leukemia cells K562 to anti-cancer drug induced death through up-regulating the autophagy pathway, which is confirmed by the observation with an increase in fusion of autophagosomes and autophagolysosomes. When overexpressing HMGB1, both mRNA levels of Beclin-1, VSP34 and UVRAG which are key genes involved in mammalian autophagy and protein levels of p-Bcl-2 and LC3-II are increased. Luciferase assays document that over-expression of HMGB1 increases the transcriptional activity of JNK and ERK, which may be silenced by siRNA. The results suggest that HMGB1 regulates JNK and ERK required for autophagy, which provides a potential drug target for therapeutic interventions in childhood CML. [BMB reports 2011; 44(9): 601-606]

A 12-week-old baby with a vein of Galen aneurysmal malformation (VGAM) was successfully treated with performing transarterial microcatheter-directed embolization with Berenstein Liquid Coils and n-butyl cyanoacrylate in the feeding arteries. Post-procedure angiography showed a marked decrease of the blood flow into the dilated vein of Galen. Three months later, follow-up angiography showed that the vein of Galen aneurysmal malformation had totally disappeared, and the baby recovered very well without any sequelae. We report here on this interesting case along with a review of the relevant literature, and we aim to enhance physicians' awareness of the treatment for VGAMs.
Development of a Kilowatt Class PEMFC Stack using Au-Coated LF11 Al Alloy Bipolar Plates

Investigations on alternative material for bipolar plates of PEMFC (polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell) are becoming a research hotspot for many fuel cell researchers. In this paper, LF11 Al alloy bipolar plates via a surface plasma Au plating preparation were applied as bipolar plates. Performances and duration times of PEMFC single cells using graphite; Au-coated LF11 Al bipolar (ALABP) and Au-coated 316L stainless steel plates were compared. It was shown that ALABP exhibited preferable properties. Based on the preparations illustrated above, a kilowatt class proton exchange membrane fuel cell stack consisting of 30 cells was successfully assembled. Pure hydrogen and air were used as the fuel and oxidant, respectively, in the stack. External humidification was employed and cycle cooling water was used to remove the heat from the reaction in order to maintain a constant temperature. A Nafion 1135 membrane and Johnson-Matthy platinum on carbon with a Pt loading of 0.4㎎/㎠ were adopted as the electrolyte and catalyst, respectively. The working temperature of the stack ranged from 25 to 100℃. The stack typically worked well under conditions in which the pressure ratio of H2/air was 0.2/0.22 MPa. The output power, current and voltage were 1-1.3 ㎾, 40-80 A, and 26-20 V, respectively. The normal current density of the electrode was 200-800 ㎃/㎠, and the energy efficiency of the stack was 51%.

A new actinomycete strain NA4 was isolated from a deep-sea sediment collected from the South China Sea and showed promising antifungal activities against soilborne fungal pathogens. It was identified as Streptomyces cavourensis by morphological, physiological, and phylogenetic analyses based on its 16S rRNA gene sequence. The main antifungal components were isolated and identified from the fermentation culture as bafilomycins B1 and C1. These compounds exhibited significant antifungal activities and a broad antifungal spectrum. The results suggest that the Streptomyces cavourensis NA4 and bafilomycins B1 and C1 could be used as potential biocontrol agents for soilborne fungal diseases of plants.
Recovery Voltage Measurements of Oil-immersed Transformer

One of the methods currently being investigated as a possible non-intrusive diagnostic tool for condition monitoring of power transformer and cable is the recovery voltage measurement, which will be improving the ability to detect the content of water concentration and the ageing process in the insulation system and may thus be an indicator of insulation quality and its ageing status. The polarization phenomenon was studied using RVM with oil-paper samples. In order to interpret its mechanism, the Extended Debye model was introduced. With different circuit parameters, various simulation results were gotten. Furthermore, with the test samples of different ageing condition, measurements are accomplished in the lab. On the basis of this experiment as well as theoretical analysis, correlations between polarizations and ageing were analyzed.
