A2/O 및 산화구법이 적용된 하수처리장에서 질산화 미생물의 유전학적 연구 및 정준상관도 분석

질소는 미처리 또는 완전한 처리가 되지않은 상태로 수생태계에 방류될 경우 부영양화 등을 초래하는 영양 염류 중 하나로 수처리 시 중요하게 처리되는 오염물질 중 하나이다. 질소는 다양한 미생물에 의해 제거된다. 다양한 미생물이 질소제거에 관여하며 이들의 군집구성은 운전조건에 따라 상이하게 나타난다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 A2/O 및 산화구법에서의 질산화 미생물의 구조와 기능을 유전학적으로 연구하고 정준상관도를 분석하였다. 산화구법에서 AOA의 군집구조가 A2/O에서보다 겨울에는 3.8배, 여름에는 6.3배 더 높게 나타났다. 다양한 환경에서의 정준상관도 분석에서는 Nitrosomonadales , Crenarchaeota, Nitrospira inopinata가 질산화와 높은 상관관계를 보였으며 COMAMMOX는 산화구법에서만 발견되었다. Nitrospira는 Nitrobacter보다 NO2―N 산화에 더 관여하는 것으로 나타났다. 산화구법의 긴 SRT와 HRT에 의하여 A2/O에서보다 넓은 범위의 질산화 미생물이 존재하는 데에 효과적인 것으로 사료된다. 결과적으로 새로운 질산화 미생물과 AOA의 군집구조가 산화 구법에서 우점되어 안정적인 질소제거에 크게 기여한 것으로 나타났다.
Suppression of Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Microglial Activation by a Benzothiazole Derivative

We previously reported that KHG21834, a benzothiazole derivative, attenuates the beta-amyloid (A${\beta}$)-induced degeneration of both cortical and mesencephalic neurons in vitro. Central nervous system inflammation mediated by activated microglia is a key event in the development of neurodegenerative disease. In this study, we show that KHG21834 suppresses inflammation-mediated cytokine upregulation. Specifically, KHG21834 induces significant reductions in the lipopolysaccharide-induced activation of microglia and production of proinflammatory mediators such as tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$, interlukin-1${\beta}$, nitric oxide, and inducible nitric oxide synthase. In addition, KHG21834 blocks the expression of mitogen-activated protein kinases, including ERK, p38 MAPK, JNK, and Akt. In vivo intracerebroventricular infusion of KHG21834 also leads to decreases the level of interleukin-1${\beta}$ and tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ in brain. These results, in combination with our previous findings on A${\beta}$-induced degeneration, support the potential therapeutic efficacy of KHG21834 for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders via the targeting of key glial activation pathways.

본 연구는 자료포락분석(DEA : Data Envelopment Analysis)을 이용하여 선진기업복지제도 실행에 따른 경제적 효과성을 분석하여, 중소기업들이 선진기업복지제도를 적극 도입 시행하도록 기여하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해, 설문회수 자료 중 투입-산출 지표와 관련된 3가지 유형의 - A유형(기본+심화, 도입)기업 36개, B유형(기본+심화, 미도입)기업 5개, C유형(기본, 미도입)기업 7개 - 총 48개 기업을 표본대상으로 하여 선진기업복지제도 도입과 관련된 경제적 효과성을 측정해 보았다. 분석 결과, 컨설팅을 받은 후 선진기업복지제도 중 어떤 하나의 제도라도 도입한 기업의 경제적 효과성이 컨설팅을 받은 후 관련 제도를 도입하지 않은 기업의 경제적 효과성보다 대체로 높게 나타나, 근로복지공단에서 실시하는 컨설팅을 통해 제도를 도입할 경우 긍정적인 경제적인 효과가 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과를 통해 근로복지공단에서는 컨설팅을 보다 적극적으로 실시할 필요가 있으며 컨설팅만 받고 관련 제도 도입을 망설이는 기업을 찾아내고 그 이유에 대하여 구체적으로 파악해 볼 필요가 있음을 시사하고 있다. The purpose of this study is to analyze the economic effectiveness of advanced enterprise welfare system utilizing DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) and contribute to the adoption and implementation of the system conducted by Korea Workers’ Compensation & Welfare Service(COMWEL). We classified 48 sample data into 3 categories : A category(basic consulting & intensive consulting, adoption) is 36, B category(basic consulting & intensive consulting, non-adoption) is 5, and C category(only basic consulting, adoption) is 7. A consulting fee is used as input variable, earning per employee and average employee tenure are used as output variables. As a result from DEA, we find out the fact that the economic effectiveness of A category is better than the economic effectiveness of B and C category and it comes to the conclusion that the consulting service provided by COMWEL has a positive effect on the adoption and implementation of advanced enterprise welfare system. Therefore, COMWEL is required to perform consulting service to small & medium business more actively and is needed to look at the reason why some businesses hesitate to accept the relevant system.
Comparison of Proteome Components of Helicobacter pylori Before and After Mouse Passage

The mouse model is alleged to be a useful tool for understanding of pathophysiological roles of Helicobacter pylori in the development of gastric disorders. However, it has been observed that H. pylori strains significantly differed in their fitness in mice and even mouse strains differed in their susceptibilities to a H. pylori strain. Bacterial components of H. pylori which could affect on its fitness in mice have to be elucidated for the establishment of the mouse model for H. pylori infections. In the comparison of colonization ability between two H. pylori Korean isolates, 51 (isolated from a patient with duodenal ulcer) and 52 (isolated from a patient with gastric cancer), 52 could colonize better than 51 on the gastric mucosa of mouse. Proteome components of H. pylori 52, as a good colonizer and H. pylori 51, as a poor one were quantitatively compared each other. Five bacterial proteins including catalase, urease subunit alpha/beta, enolase and ferritin, were up-regulated in 52. In addition, the respective proteome components of the two strains were also compared with their mouse-passaged homologous strains. Seven and five proteins, which included catalase, flagellin A/B in common, were up-regulated in mouse-adapted 51 and 52, respectively. Among the fourteen identified proteins, urease subunit alpha/beta, flagellin A/B, catalase, ferritin, superoxide dismutase and neutrophil-activation protein have been previously known to be necessary to gastric colonization of H. pylori in animal models. The other up-regulated proteins including enolase, elongation factor Tu and fructose-bisphosphate aldolase have been reported to be associated with acid tolerance of H. pylori. These data provide confirmatory evidence for the importance of those proteins in the development of H. pylori-associated gastric disorders.

This study was conducted for SNPs in the 5'-regions of estrogen receptor-${\alpha}$ (ESR-${\alpha}$), and association with calving interval (CI), service per conception (SPC) and 305 days milk yield in Hanwoo and Holstein dairy cattle. The genetic improvement was incurred low reproduction performance. The objective of this study was to investigate connections between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) of Estrogen receptor-${\alpha}$ (ESR-${\alpha}$) with reproduction performance (calving interval, service per conception, and 305 d milk yield) in Hanwoo and Holstein dairy cattle. Hanwoo and Holstein blood samples were collected from 183 and 124 dam of breeding farms and DNA was extracted. Primer design was based on NCBI GenBank (Accession No. AY340579). The PCR-RFLP method with Bgl I was used to genotype the cattle. The result showed two variants of the ESR-${\alpha}$ gene. The Bgl I cut the 492 bp amplification product into 322 bp and 170 bp fragments for allele G, while allele A remained uncut, resulting in two restriction fragments for homozygote G/G and three fragments for heterozygote A/G. We found two of different genotypes in these breeds, A/G and G/G. In Hanwoo, the A/G genotype frequency was 0.13, and G/G was 0.87. The CI of A/G was $382.18{\pm}10.03$ days, and G/G was $381.69{\pm}5.22$ days. The SPC of A/G was $1.62{\pm}0.16$, and G/G was $1.32{\pm}0.04$. While CI showed no significance difference, SPC exhibited significant difference (p<0.05). In Holstein cattle, the frequency of genotype A/G was 0.02 and G/G was 0.98. The 305 days milk yield of A/G was $7,253.00{\pm}936.00kg$ and of G/G was $8,747.51{\pm}204.88kg$, showing no significant difference.

A total of 1,708 small mammals (1,617 rodents and 91 soricomorphs), including Apodemus agrarius (n = 1,400), Microtus fortis (167), Crocidura lasiura (91), Mus musculus (32), Myodes (= Eothenomys) regulus (9), Micromys minutus (6), and Tscherskia (= Cricetulus) triton (3), were live-trapped at US/Republic of Korea (ROK) military training sites near the demilitarized zone (DMZ) of Paju, Pocheon, and Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province from December 2004 to December 2009. Small mammals were examined for their intestinal nematodes by necropsy. A total of 1,617 rodents (100%) and 91 (100%) soricomorphs were infected with at least 1 nematode species, including Nippostrongylus brasiliensis, Heligmosomoides polygyrus, Syphacia obvelata, Heterakis spumosa, Protospirura muris, Capillaria spp., Trichuris muris, Rictularia affinis, and an unidentified species. N. brasiliensis was the most common species infecting small mammals (1,060; 62.1%) followed by H. polygyrus (617; 36.1%), S. obvelata (370; 21.7%), H. spumosa (314; 18.4%), P. muris (123; 7.2%), and Capillaria spp. (59; 3.5%). Low infection rates (0.1-0.8%) were observed for T. muris, R. affinis, and an unidentified species. The number of recovered worms was highest for N. brasiliensis (21,623 worms; mean 20.4 worms/infected specimen) followed by S. obvelata (9,235; 25.0 worms), H. polygyrus (4,122; 6.7 worms), and H. spumosa (1,160; 3.7 worms). A. agrarius demonstrated the highest prevalence for N. brasiliensis (70.9%), followed by M. minutus (50.0%), T. triton (33.3%), M. fortis (28.1%), M. musculus (15.6%), C. lasiura (13.2%), and M. regulus (0%). This is the first report of nematode infections in small mammals captured near the DMZ in ROK.

The black cutworm, Agrotis ipsilon (Hufnagel, 1766) is a cosmopolitan pest that poses an economic threat to many crops such as pepper, corn, perilla, etc. A. ipsilon can be mass reared by providing Chinese cabbage, Brassica rapa under 60~70%, 16L:8D and 25±1℃ in laboratory. This study presents the mass rearing methods and the morphological characteristics of the immature stages of A. ipsilon including descriptions of the each immature stages.
Attenuation of β-amyloid-induced neuroinflammation by KHG21834 in vivo

Beta-Amyloid (Aβ)-induced neuroinflammation is one of the key events in the development of neurodegenerative disease. We previously reported that KHG21834, a benzothiazole derivative, attenuates Aβ-induced degeneration of cortical and mesencephalic neurons in vitro. In the present work, we show that KHG21834 reduces Aβ-mediated neuroinflammation in brain. In vivo intracerebroventricular infusion of KHG21834 leads to decreases in the numbers of activated astrocytes and microglia and level of proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor-α induced by Aβ in the hippocampus. This suppression of neuroinflammation is associated with decreased neuron loss, restoration of synaptic dysfunction biomarkers in the hippocampus to control level, and diminished amyloid deposition. These results may suggest the potential therapeutic efficacy of KHG21834 for the treatment of Aβ-mediated neuroinflammation. [BMB reports 2010; 43(6): 413-418]

The turnip sawfly, Athalia rosae is one of the main pests that damage the leaves of cabbage, radish and other cruciferous crops. The developmental biology and morphological characteristics of the immature stages of Athalia rosae were studied in the laboratory using host plant, Chinese cabbage, Brassica rapa var. glabra. A. rosae can be mass reared in laboratory throughout the year under RH 60~70%, 16L:8D and 25±1℃. This species has six larval stages in the female and five larval stages in the male. The developmental period is about 28~29 days. Ovipositional periods and larval developmental periods were 6, 9 days, respectively. The pupal period was about 14 days. Illustrations and descriptions of the various immature stages and their behaviors are provided.
