        Induction of Forkhead Class box O3a and apoptosis by a standardized ginsenoside formulation, KG-135, is potentiated by autophagy blockade in A549 human lung cancer cells

        Background: KG-135, a standardized formulation enriched with Rk1, Rg3, and Rg5 ginsenosides, has been shown to inhibit various types of cancer cells; however, the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. In this study, we explored its effects in A549 human lung cancer cells to investigate the induction of Forkhead Class box O3a (FOXO3a) and autophagy. Methods: Cell viability was determined by sulforhodamine B staining. Apoptosis and cell cycle distribution were analyzed using flow cytometry. The changes of protein levels were determined using Western blot analysis. Autophagy induction was monitored by the formation of acidic vesicular organelles stained with acridine orange. Results: KG-135 effectively arrested the cells in G1 phase with limited apoptosis. Accordingly, a decrease of cyclin-dependent kinase-4, cyclin-dependent kinase-6, cyclin D1, and phospho-retinoblastoma protein, and an increase of p27 and p18 proteins were observed. Intriguingly, KG-135 increased the tumor suppressor FOXO3a and induced the accumulation of autophagy hallmark LC3-II and acidic vesicular organelles without an increase of the upstream marker Beclin-1. Unconventionally, the autophagy adaptor protein p62 (sequestosome 1) was increased rather than decreased. Blockade of autophagy by hydroxychloroquine dramatically potentiated KG-135-induced FOXO3a and its downstream (FasL) ligand accompanied by the cleavage of caspase-8. Meanwhile, the decrease of Bcl-2 and survivin, as well as the cleavage of caspase-9, were also drastically enhanced, resulting in massive apoptosis. Conclusion: Besides arresting the cells in G1 phase, KG-135 increased FOXO3a and induced an unconventional autophagy in A549 cells. Both the KG-135-activated extrinsic FOXO3a/FasL/caspase-8 and intrinsic caspase-9 apoptotic pathways were potentiated by blockade of autophagy. Combination of KG- 135 and autophagy inhibitor may be a novel strategy as an integrative treatment for cancers.

        자연포기형 생물막공정에 의한 화학산업폐수 처리특성

        본 연구는 영세한 소규모 업체에서도 적은 비용부담으로 사용할 수 있는 오 · 폐수처리장치 개발이 필요한 실정에 맞추어 자연포기형 생물막공정을 이용한 난분해성물질을 포함한 고농도 화학산업 폐수의 유기물 용적부하와 수리학적부하에 따른 처리효율 분석을 통하여 자연포기형 생물막공정의 난분해성물질을 포함한 고농도 폐수 처리 효율성을 분석하고자 한다. 유기물 용적부하 0.2kg COD<sub>Mn</sub>/㎥/d, 0.47kg COD<sub>Mn</sub>/㎥/d, 0.78kg COD<sub>Mn</sub>/㎥/d인 저율, 중율, 고율 살수여상의 운전범위에서 실험을 수행한 결과 유기물 용적부하 0.2kg COD<sub>Mn</sub>/㎥/d, 0.47kg COD<sub>Mn</sub>/㎥/d인 저율, 중율 살수여상의 운전범위에서 BOD<sub>5</sub>, COD<sub>Mn</sub>, COD<sub>Cr</sub> 처리효율 모두 살수여상의 설계기준을 만족하며 안정적인 처리를 진행하였으나, 유기물 용적부하 0.78kg COD<sub>Mn</sub>/㎥/d인 고율 살수여상의 운전범위에서 COD<sub>Mn</sub>과 COD<sub>Cr</sub> 처리효율은 설계기준에 다소 못 미치는 결과를 나타냈다. 수리학적부하 6.3㎥/㎡/d, 20.1㎥/㎡/d, 33.4㎥/㎡/d인 중속, 고속, 고속 살수여상의 수리학적부하 운전범위에서 실험을 수행한 결과 모든 운전조건에서 SS와 BOD5는 수리학적부하의 영향을 받지 않았으며, COD<sub>Mn</sub>과 COD<sub>Cr</sub>은 수리학적부하가 증가함에 따라 처리효율도 다소 증가하였으나 큰 영향은 받지 않았다. 따라서 경제적/효율적인 면을 동시에 만족시키기 위한 유기물 용적부하와 수리학적부하로 중율과 중속 살수여상의 운전범위에서 운전하는 것이 적정하다. In this study, natural aeration biofilm process was employed according to the requirement of development low cost-energy treatment equipment for small corporation. The efficiency of this equipment was evaluated at different organic loading rate and hydraulic loading rate to treat chemical wastewater which contains non-biodegradable matters. The chemical wastewater was treated under a trickling filter of organic loading rate at 0.2kgCOD<sub>Mn</sub>/㎥/d, 0.47kgCOD<sub>Mn</sub>/㎥/d and 0.78kg COD<sub>Mn</sub>/㎥/d. when the organic loading rate is at low-rate of 0.2kg COD<sub>Mn</sub>/㎥/d and intermediate-rate of 0.47kg COD<sub>Mn</sub>/㎥/d, the removal efficiency of BOD<sub>5</sub>, COD<sub>Mn</sub> and COD<sub>Cr</sub> can satisfied the design standard of general trickling filter process and the wastewater can be treated stably. However, when the organic loading rate is at high-rate of 0.78kg COD<sub>Mn</sub>/㎥/d, removal efficiency of COD<sub>Mn</sub> and COD<sub>Cr</sub> can not satisfied the design standard of general trickling filter process. When the wastewater was treated at hydraulic loading rate of 6.3㎥/㎡/d, 20.1㎥/㎡/d and 33.4 ㎥/㎡/d, the removal efficiencies of SS and BOD<sub>5</sub> didn`t effected by hydraulic loading rate. While the removal efficiencies of COD<sub>Mn</sub> and COD<sub>Cr</sub> were increased by the increasing of by hydraulic loading rate, but the efficiencies were not distinct. To sum up, at the intermediate-rate of trickling filter, the effect of chemical wastewater treatment can be the economical and effective.

      • Effects of the refractive index of the encapsulant on the light-extraction efficiency of light-emitting diodes.

        <P>We investigate the effects of the refractive index of the encapsulant on the light-extraction efficiency (LEE) of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for GaN LEDs (n ??? 2.5) and AlGaInP LEDs (n ??? 3.0). For non-absorbing rectangular parallelepiped LED chips, as the refractive index of the encapsulant increases, the LEE first increases quasi-linearly, then increases sub-linearly, and finally a saturation is reached. Furthermore, LEDs with a dual-layer graded-refractive-index (GRIN) encapsulant (n(encapsulant 1) = 1.57 and n(encapsulant 2) = 1.41) is fabricated through a two-step curing process. We demonstrate that such an LED further enhances the LEE by reducing Fresnel reflection loss at the encapsulant/air interface by 35% compared with an LED encapsulated with a single-layer encapsulant (n(encapsulant) = 1.57).</P>

      • Study on minimizing Extremely-Low-Frequency magnetic fields around power cables and busbars

        Extremely-Low-Frequency(ELF) magnetic fields are generated around power cables and bus bars in power systems. Such the stray fields may cause disturbances to nearby electronic apparatus and affect even human health. In order to seeking out a proper way to reducing the fields, the first thing to do is to accurately predict field distribution around analysis models of interest. Then, optimization techniques should be applied for finding a more improved design than the initial one. To achieve this goal, commercial electromagnetic software, MagNet, is combined with evolution strategy algorithm. For verification of the proposed method, three-phase power line cables and busbar systems have been tested.

      • SURF 알고리즘과 칼만 필터를 이용한 실시간 객체 추적 및 위치 예상 연구

        본 논문에서는 SURF(Speed up robust feature) 알고리즘과 칼만 필터를 이용하여 실시간으로 객체를 추적 예상하는 방법을 제안한다. 물체를 인식하는 방법은 SURF알고리즘 SURF알고리즘 등 여러 가지가 있으나 실시간으로 물체를 인식하기 위해 SURF알고리즘을 사용하였다. 인식할 이미지를 를 통해 특징 점을 기억하고 실시간으로 영상에서 SURF를 통해 특징 점을 체크하여 두 개의SURF 비교 후 그 이미지를 물체로 인식하여 매칭을 시켜준다. 이후 인식한 순간부터 물체가 마지막에 인식이 된 위치까지를 칼만 알고리즘을 이용하여 속도와 거리를 계산한 후 카메라의 범위에서 벗어났을 때 객체의 예상 지점을 알려준다 본 논문은 객체가 이동을 할 때 카메라의 시야에서 벗어나더라도 이동된 지점을 예측 할 수 있는 방법을 제시하며 실험을 통해 제안하는 알고리즘을 증명한다. This paper is a study on moving object tracking using fast speeded up robust feature(SURF) algorithm and expecting location using Kalman filter. The methods which are recognized object have lots such as SURF algorithm and scale invariant feature transform(SIFT). In this paper using SURF Because SURF algorithm is faster than process time of SIFT. Do SURF one image and SURF video in real time. One image help to recognize object which I wanted. After that matching image to identify, checking or not. and Save image time. Save last image which is last recognized. After that using Kalman filter to expect where is object. and Kalman filter can help to get velocity and distance. After get out camera view range We can expect where is object.

      • Carbon induced phase transformation in electrospun TiO<sub>2</sub>/multiwall carbon nanotube nanofibers

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Nanofibers of titania and composite nanofibers of titania and multiwall carbon nanotubes were synthesized by electrospinning using a sol-gel process combined with activated carbon nanotubes. The relationships of treatment temperature, carbon nanotube content on the crystal phase, fiber morphology, and electric properties are reported. It is found that the rutile phase becomes more prominent at low heat treatment temperatures with an increase of carbon content in nanofibers, be it for higher amount of carbon due to reducing atmosphere or due to an increase in MWCNT. Atmospheric control and lower heat treatment temperatures enable crystalline nanocomposite fibers of anatase where the level of rutile is below the detection limit of XRD or Raman spectroscopy. This work provides a new path to fabricate electrospun TiO<SUB>2</SUB>/MWCNT nanocomposite nanofibers with limited C-induced rutile phase.</P>

      • A Self-Organizing Model Based Rate Control Algorithm for MPEG-4 Video Coding

        본 논문에서는 자기구성 뉴로퍼지 네트워크를 이용한 MPEG-4 비트율 제어알고리즘을 제안한다. 경험적인 수식을 바탕으로 rate-distortion(RD) 모델을 구성하는 일반적인 방법과는 달리 제안하는 알고리즘의 기본적인 아이디어는 온라인으로 RD모델을 스스로 구성하고 매 프레임마다 그 구조를 적응적으로 업데이트하는 SOLPN을 이용해 RD 모델을 구현하는 것으로 많은 비트율 제어 방식 중 프레임을 기반으로 한 비트율 제어만을 본 논문에서는 고려한다. 특히 이 알고리즘은 오프라인에서 미리 트레이닝하는 것이 필요가 없기 때문에 실시간 코딩에도 적용 가능하다. VM18.0과의 비교 실험 결과들을 보면 본 논문에서 제안하는 비트율제어 알고리즘이 VMl8.0〔16〕에 비해 주관적인 화질 향상뿐만 아니라 적은 프레임 스킵(franc skip)과 높은 PSNR을 나타낸다. A new self-organizing neuro-fuzzy network based rate control algorithm for MPEG-4 video encoder is proposed in this paper. Contrary to the traditional methods that construct the rate-distorion (RD) model based on experimental equations, the proposed method effectively exploits the non-stationary property of the video date with neuro-fuzzy network that self-organizes the RD model online and adaptively updates the structure. The method needs not require off-line pre-training; hence it is geared toward real-time coding. The comparative results through the experiments suggest that our proposed rate control scheme encodes the video sequences with less frame skip, providing good temporal quality and higher PSNR, compared to VM18.0.
