        Present status of soil sickness in continuous vegetable cropping was investigated by means of interviews and field surveys. Investigations were made major vegetable crops such as Chinese cabbage, radish, red pepper, garlic,cucumber and others in the field or in the plastic house where a known vegetable crop was cultivated continuously for a long period. 1. In Chinese cabbage both for summer and autumn crops, bacterial soft rot was the most destructive one and followed by club root, root rot and boron deficiency in that order. 2. No serious soil sickness was generally observed in certain root crops such as radish and carrot except that root knot of carrot in Cheju. However,radish was damaged occasionally by Fusarium yellows and boron deficiency. 3. In general,Phytophthora rot and bacterial wilt were severe in red pepper, while nematode damages and bacterial canker occurred in a limited area. 4. With cucurbits,cucumber,muskmelon,and watermelon, although Fusarium wilt and stem blight were severe, those could be controlled by grafting Powdery mildew, grey mold and downey mildew occurred freqeuntly in the plastic house. 5. There were almost free from soil sickness problems in bulbous vegetable crops, garlic, onion and shallot. However root mite damage of shallot was severe and percentage of garlic blight has increased as increasing continuous cropping period with poor cultural practices. 6. Strawberry has damaged greatly by Fusarium yellows with incrcasing bud blight and that the cultivation is shifting toward the disease free land. 7. In lettuce, Sclerotinia soft rot, downey mildew and bacterial soft rot were prevalent and marginal leaf spot caused by Pseudomonas species on heading lettuce was severe in some areas. 8. There were severe damages of peanut due to root knot and Cercospora leaf spot while occasionally bacterial soft rot, and deficiencies of calcium and boron were observed in celeries.

      • 위령탕 및 인진오령산이 Galactosamine에 의한 白鼠의 肝損傷에 미치는 影響

        The protective effects of Wuiryungtang(위령탕) and Inginoryungsan(인진오령산) on D-galactoasmine induced liver damage were researched in rats. Oral feeding or Wuiryungtang and Inginoryungsan to rat on four consecutive times at 0, 3, 6 and 12 hours after galactosamine(375mg/kg, ip) treatment effectively protect against AST, AST, ASP, LDH, and total and direct bilirubin changes induced by galactosamine. In particular, the effect of Wuiryungtang plus Inginoryungsan have shown the important significance on protecting the liver damage induced by galactosamine, and that has striding effects on the inhibition of serum bvilirubin level change. In this paper, however, if cannot be studied for Wuiryungtang and Inginoryungsan how to have these protective effects and the process. The more continuous research will show the process and mechanism of the effects. Then the prescriptions will be clinically used broadly on the liver.

        Acute myocardial infarction(AMI) due to coronary embolism can occur in patients with normal coronary artery. Coronary embolism is believed to be a cause of acute myocardial infarction when emergent coronary angiography shows perfectly normal coronary trees, except for the finding of coronary artery occlusion. In this report, we describe four patients with AMI due to coronary embolism who were successfully treated using a thrombus aspiration device and anticoagulation, and those patients had intracardial thrombus arising from the left atrium due to chronic atrial fibrillation and valvular heart disease. Patients with chronic or paroxysmal atrial fibrillation can present with AMI due to coronary embolism, and thrombus aspiration with percutaneous aspiration device is a feasible treatment option for these patients along with anticoagulation the rapy.

        Behcet's disease is an inflammatory disorder of unknown cause, characterized by recurrent oral aphthous ulcer, genital ulcers, ocular manifestations, and skin lesions. Large-vessel involvement of both arterial and venous system appears in 7-29% of patients, and it is major cause of morbidity and mortality. Venous involvement, including superficial thrombophlebitis and deep vein thrombosis, is more frequent. Arterial manifestations occurs infrequently and presents with aortitis or arterial aneurysm and arterial thrombosis. Arterial aneurysms or occlusions which occur in the systemic or the pulmonary arterial bed are present in approximately 2 to 3% of patients with Behcet's disease and accounts for only 12% of vascular complication. Aneurysms are more frequent than occlusions and are mostly present in the pulmonary arteries and abdominal aorta. They have poor prognosis because of rupture with fatal outcome and surgical treatment is necessary. But, Surgical treatment often difficult and may lead to formation of further false aneurysms at the site of vascular anastomosis. Endovascular stent graft placement emerged as an alternative treatment that is less invasive with a lower risk. We experienced a case of abdominal aortic aneurysm in 36-year-old man with Behcet's disease. The patient was diagnosed by CT scan and treated with percutaneous endovascular stent graft.

      • Saponin이 토끼 적혈구막의 Na<sup>+</sup>-K<sup>+</sup>-ATPase의 활성도에 미치는 영향

        The effect of saponin on the sodium plus potassium activated ATPase activity was studied in the rabbit red cell ghosts and the experiments were also designed to determine the mechanism of action of saponin on the APTase activity. The following results were observed. 1. The ATPase activity of rabbit red cell ghosts is inhibited by low concentration of saponin but increased by high concentration. The activating effect of saponin on the Na<sup>+</sup>-K<sup>+</sup>-ATPase activity is inhibited by ouabain but the stimulation of the Mg<sup>++</sup>-ATPase by high concentration of saponin is not inhibited by ouabain. 2. The activity ratio of Na<sup>+</sup>-K<sup>+</sup>-ATPase by high concentration of saponin is decreased by raising the potassium concentration, and is increased by raising the sodium concentration. 3. The ATPase activity is increased by small amounts of calcium but inhibited by larger amounts. The activity ratio of the enzyme by saponin is decreased by raising the calcium concertration 4. The action on the ATPase activity was not related to the amino group of lysine, the hydroxyl group of threonine, the imidazole group of histidine, or the carboxyl group of aspartic acid. 5. The action of saponin on the ATPase activity is due to sulfhydryl group of the enzyme of Na<sup>+</sup>-K<sup>+</sup>-ATPase.

        Development of <sup>64</sup>Cu-NOTA-Trastuzumab for HER2 Targeting: A Radiopharmaceutical with Improved Pharmacokinetics for Human Studies

        <P>The purpose of this study was to develop <SUP>64</SUP>Cu-labeled trastuzumab with improved pharmacokinetics for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). <B>Methods:</B> Trastuzumab was conjugated with SCN-Bn-NOTA and radiolabeled with <SUP>64</SUP>Cu. Serum stability and immunoreactivity of <SUP>64</SUP>Cu-NOTA-trastuzumab were tested. Small-animal PET imaging and biodistribution studies were performed in a HER2-positive breast cancer xenograft model (BT-474). The internal dosimetry for experimental animals was determined using the image-based approach with the Monte Carlo N-particle code. <B>Results:</B> <SUP>64</SUP>Cu-NOTA-trastuzumab was prepared with high radiolabeling yield and radiochemical purity (>98%) and showed high stability in serum and good immunoreactivity. Uptake of <SUP>64</SUP>Cu-NOTA-trastuzumab was highest at 48 h after injection as determined by PET imaging and biodistribution results in BT-474 tumors. The blood radioactivity concentrations of <SUP>64</SUP>Cu-NOTA-trastuzumab decreased biexponentially with time in both mice with and mice without BT-474 tumor xenografts. The calculated absorbed dose of <SUP>64</SUP>Cu-NOTA-trastuzumab was 0.048 mGy/MBq for the heart, 0.079 mGy/MBq for the liver, and 0.047 mGy/MBq for the spleen. <B>Conclusion:</B> <SUP>64</SUP>Cu-NOTA-trastuzumab was effectively targeted to the HER2-expressing tumor in vitro and in vivo, and it exhibited a relatively low absorbed dose due to a short residence time. Therefore, <SUP>64</SUP>Cu-NOTA-trastuzumab could be applied to select the right patients and right timing for HER2 therapy, to monitor the treatment response after HER2-targeted therapy, and to detect distal or metastatic spread.</P>

      • Strontium ion (Sr<sup>2+</sup>) separation from seawater by hydrothermally structured titanate nanotubes: Removal vs. recovery

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Strontium ion (Sr<SUP>2+</SUP>) separation from seawater has attracted attention for radioactive pollutants removal and for Sr<SUP>2+</SUP> recovery. Herein, we synthesized titanate nanotubes (TiNTs) via a simple hydrothermal reaction, characterized their physicochemical properties, and systematically evaluated Sr<SUP>2+</SUP> sorption behavior under various reaction conditions corresponding to seawater environments. The synthesized TiNTs exhibited a fibril-type nanotube structure with a high specific surface area (260m<SUP>2</SUP>/g). Sr<SUP>2+</SUP> adsorption on TiNTs rapidly occurred following a pseudo-second-order kinetic model and was in good agreement with the Langmuir isotherm model, indicating a maximum adsorption capacity of 97mg/g. Based on the Sr<SUP>2+</SUP> uptake and Na<SUP>+</SUP> release with a stoichiometric balance, the Sr<SUP>2+</SUP> sorption mechanism on TiNTs was ion exchange between Na<SUP>+</SUP> in the TiNT lattice and Sr<SUP>2+</SUP> in the solution phase, as confirmed by XRD and Raman analysis. Among the competitive ions, Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> significantly hindered Sr<SUP>2+</SUP> sorption on TiNTs, whereas Na<SUP>+</SUP> only slightly affected Sr<SUP>2+</SUP> sorption, despite the Na<SUP>+</SUP> exchange sorption mechanism. The effect of Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> on Sr<SUP>2+</SUP> sorption was evaluated by introducing a distribution coefficient (<I>K<SUB>d</SUB> </I>) as a critical factor in determining the selectivity, which revealed a slightly higher selectivity for Sr<SUP>2+</SUP>. The Sr<SUP>2+</SUP> adsorption-desorption test in a real seawater medium enabled the determination of <I>K<SUB>d</SUB> </I> and the concentration factor (CF) for co-existing matrix ions in seawater; these values were evaluated for Sr<SUP>2+</SUP> removal and recovery from seawater. TiNTs were regenerated by acid treatment and reused through consecutive adsorption-desorption experiments. While most studies addressing Sr<SUP>2+</SUP> sorption using TiNTs aimed for extraction from wastewater and radioactive wastewater, this study elucidated Sr<SUP>2+</SUP> sorption behavior under seawater conditions and provided insights into developing the removal and recovery processes from seawater.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Titanate nanotubes (TiNTs) were synthesized by a simple hydrothermal reaction. </LI> <LI> The sorption of strontium (Sr) on TiNTs rapidly occurred, achieving Sr uptake 97mg/g. </LI> <LI> Na had little effect on Sr sorption despite the sorption mechanism of the Na exchange. </LI> <LI> Ca significantly hindered Sr sorption on TiNTs among co-existing cations in seawater. </LI> <LI> TiNTs could be easily regenerated by acid treatment and reused for repeated cycles. </LI> </UL> </P>

        건조 수산가공식품의 방사능 및 중금속 오염도 조사

        건조 수산가공식품의 안전성 확보를 위해 2020년 경기도 내 유통 중인 건조 수산가공식품 12품목 120건을 수거하여 방사능(<sup>131</sup>I, <sup>134</sup>Cs, <sup>137</sup>Cs) 및 중금속(납, 카드뮴, 비소, 수은) 함량을 분석하였다. 모든 시료에서 자연 방사성 핵종 중 하나인 <sup>40</sup>K만 검출되었으며, 인공 방사성 물질인 <sup>131</sup>I, <sup>134</sup>Cs, <sup>137</sup>Cs는 최소검출가능농도(MDA) 이하의 값을 나타내었다. 중금속의 평균 함량[평균±표준편차(최소값-최대값)]은 생물로 환산하였을 때 납 0.066±0.065(N.D.-0.332) mg/kg, 카드뮴 0.200±0.406(N.D.-2.941) mg/kg, 비소 3.630±3.170(0.371-15.007) mg/kg, 수은 0.009±0.011(0.0005-0.0621) mg/kg 이었으며, 수산물에서 중금속 기준이 있는 제품의 경우 모두 기준 규격 이내로 나타났다. 국내산 제품과 수입산 제품의 중금속 함량은, 조개의 카드뮴과 새우의 수은 함량에서만 유의적인 차이를 나타내었다(P<0.05). 본 연구 결과, 유통 중인 건조 수산가공식품에서 방사능 및 중금속은 안전한 수준인 것으로 판단되나, 식품 중 특히 수산물에서 방사능 오염에 대한 국민의 우려가 크기 때문에 국민들의 불안감 해소를 위해 방사능 검사는 지속적으로 필요할 것으로 생각된다. 또 향후 건조 수산가공식품 중에서도 건조된 형태로 직접 섭취 가능한 제품의 중금속 관리 기준 설정을 위한 기초 자료로 활용할 수 있을 것이다. A total of 120 samples corresponding to 12 categories of dried processed fishery products distributed in Gyeonggi-do were examined for radioactivity contamination (<sup>131</sup>I, <sup>134</sup>Cs, <sup>137</sup>Cs) and heavy metals (lead, cadmium, arsenic, and mercury). One natural radioactive material, <sup>40</sup>K, was detected in all products, while the artificial radioactive materials <sup>131</sup>I, <sup>134</sup>Cs and <sup>137</sup>Cs were not detected at above MDA (minimum detectable activity) values. The detection ranges of heavy metals converted by biological basis were found as follows: Pb (N.D.-0.332 mg/kg), Cd (N.D.-2.941 mg/kg), As (0.371-15.007 mg/kg), Hg (0.0005-0.0621 mg/kg). Heavy metals were detected within standard levels when there was an acceptable standard, but the arsenic content was high in most products, although none of the products had a permitted level of arsenic. In the case of dried processed fishery products, there are products that are consumed by restoring moisture to its original state, but there are also many products that are consumed directly in the dry state, so it will be necessary to set permitted levels for heavy metals considering this situation in the future. In addition, Japan has decided to release contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean, so there is high public concern about radioactivity contamination of food, including fishery products. Therefore, continuous monitoring of various food items will be necessary to ease consumers' anxiety.
