On the basis of a theoretical tenet that voluntary sports commitment is a result of participation motivation both inherent in and extrinsic to the participant, a survey research was conducted with 664 university students sampled from six major universities located in the metropolitan Seoul area. It was theorized that the intrinic motivation for sports commitment is intimately associated with the relative degree of sport socialization which is postulated to be highly dependent upon personal attributes (e.g., sex, sport aptitude, interest, attitude, etc.) as well as upon influences from parents, peers, and teachers during the maturing ages, i.e., elementary and secondary school ages. A self-report sports commitment questionnaire along with a sport socialization scale assessed 1) the present levels of sports commitment of respondents and 2) the degrees of sport socialization as well as socializing factors including personal attributes and influences from significant others. Data analysis(using ANOVA, multiple regression analysis, etc.) revealed that: 1) a very low percentage of respondents practices sports and exercises; 2) even the sport-committed group is engaged mostly in a limited kind of sports learned at the schools, instead of such life-time oriented individual and dual sports as bowling, badminton and jogging, with the frequency and duration being low and short; 3) the main reasons for participating in sports are such extrinsic factors as improvement of health and weight control, rather than pursuit of fun, enjoyment, achievement and win; 4) in contrast, the main reasons for not participating in sports are lack of interest, concern, and skill as well as lack of time and facilities; 5) the sports commitment is significantly influenced by the degree of sport socialization which, in turn, is determined, to a great degree, by such socializing factors as personal interest, attitude, sex, birth place, and influences from significant others. In order to promote mass sports, thus, these results, taken together, suggested a need for more emphasis on school physical education directed toward enhancing the awareness, interest, and attitude toward sports along with the provision of space and facilities for mass sports from the governmental standpoint.

Tolclofosmethyl (TCFM) is heavily and annually applied to the turf soils of most golf courses in Gyeongju to control the fungi known to cause the disease brown patch. The soil samples used for the experiment was collected three weeks after the annual application at the end of May in the year 2002. The preliminary results obtained from this study demonstrated that the repeated field annual applications of TCFM to the turf soils of a golf course located in Gyeongju city in the southern area of Korea showed the enhanced degradation of the parent compound TCFM, especially in the surface (0~15 cm) soil rather than the shallow subsurface (15~30 cm) and deep subsurface (30~45 cm) soils, compared to the corresponding surface (0~15 cm) and shallow and deep subsurface (15~30 cm and 30~45 cm) soils of the untreated plot. It appears that microorganisms in the soil may be involved in the enhanced degradation of TCFM.
100-GHZ BAND TEST OBSERVATIONS OF THE KVN 21-M RADIO TELESCOPES

We carry out 100-GHz band test observations with the newly-constructed KVN 21-m radio telescopes in order to evaluate their performance. The three telescopes have similar performance parameters. The pointing accuracies are about 4" rms for the entire sky. The main beam sizes are about 30" (FWHMs), which is nearly the diffraction limit of the telescopes at the observing frequency (97 GHz). The measured aperture and main-beam efficiencies are about 52% and 46%, respectively, for all three telescopes. The estimated moon efficiency is ~84% for the KVN Tamna telescope. The first sidelobes appear 50" (~1.6${\times}$FWHM) from the main beam centers and the levels are on average -14 dB.

Purpose : Cancer of the uterine cervix remains the leading cause of cancer death in Korean women. Conventional examinations still have limitations with regards to sensitivity and specificity in diagnosis and to monitoring for the disease. Thus, an additional specific tumor marker is needed of early detection of recurrent uterine cervical carcinoma and for estimation of patient's prognosis. Materials and Methods : Monoclonal antibodies against human cervical carcinoma were generated using hybridoma technology. These murine monoclonal antibodies were produced by fusion of spleen cells obtained from mice immunized with GUMC-6, a human cell line-of squamous cell carcinoma derived from uterine cervix, and P3-X63-Ag8 mouse myeloma cells. Results : We obtained 415 hybridomas secreting specific monoclonal antibodies to cervical carcinoma antigen continuously. Among them, one hybridoma designated CC5 that was highly reactive with cervical carcinoma was selected, and examined on the staining pattern and the reactivity with antigenic determinants of cervical carcinoma. Immunohistochemica staining revealed that CC5 monoclonal antibody reacted with all of the seven cervical carcinoma tissues, but also reacted with one of the ten (10%) normal cervical tissues. Western blot analysis showed that CC5 monoclonal antibody detected single 19.5-kDa sized protein b and in cervical cancer patient's sera. The detection rate was 88% (7/8). However, CC5 monoclonal antibody did not show any reactivity to 15 sera of normal healthy women tested. Sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophortic(SDS-PAGE) analysis of CC5 monoclonal antibody immunoprecipitates of extracts of L-□ methionine-labeled human cervical carcinoma cells showed a major band in apparent molecular weight, 51,000 daltons. The isotype and subclass of CC5 monoclonal antibody was lgG2b in hemagglutination assay. Conclusions : We have developed a new monoclonal antibody, CC5, against squamous cell carcinoma of the human uterine cervix. Further investigation is needed to determine this monoclonal antibody as an immunodiagnostic devise for cervical cancer. (Journal of Korean Cancer Association 31(3):562-574, 1999)

An acireductone dioxygenase (ARD) gene of potatoes was isolated from the expressed sequence tags (ESTs) of potato post-suberization cDNA libraries. The highest expression levels of the StARD gene and the protein appeared 36 h after suberization. An approximate 9-fold increase in ARD activity was detected at 36 h after wounding. Real-time reverse transcription?PCR (RT?PCR) analysis and immunolocalization studies revealed that StARD transcripts increase at the wound surface of potato tubers. The polyamine (PA) contents increased significantly after wounding at the wound surface. The increased PA content and ARD activity may play an important role in wound periderm formation.

High molecular weight polysuccinimide (PSI), as the precursor polymer for water-soluble poly(aspartic acid), was prepared by the thermal polycondensation of L-Aspartic acid. The molecular weight, estimated from the solution viscosity of the PSI, was within a range of 100000∼140000 Dalton. A crosslinked gel powder was prepared by the thermal curing reaction of a freeze-dried mixture composed of polyaspartic acid and a proper amount of PEG-diepoxide in water. The dependences of swelling behavior on the composition and curing conditions were also investigated.
다중채널 뇌파와 신경회로망을 이용한 쾌적성 분류에 관한 연구

본 연구에서는 다중채널 뇌파에서 특징 파라미터로 선형 예측기 계수(Linear predictor coefficients)를 추출하고, 패턴인식기로는 신경회로망을 이용한 쾌적성 분류 알고리즘을 개발하여 다중 템플릿 방법으로 쾌적성 분류 실험을 하고자 하였다. 뇌파 데이터는 대학생 10명으로부터 쾌적한 환경과 불쾌적한 환경에서의 데이터를 수집하였으며, 전극 위치는 Fpl, Fp2, F3, F4, T3, T4, P3, P4, O1, O2를 사용하였다. 수집된 뇌파는 전처리를 거친 후 특징 파라미터를 추출하고 패턴 분류기로 사용된 신경회로망의 입력으로 사용하였다. 쾌적성 분류 방법은 다중템플릿 방법으로 여러 명의 피검자를 각각 학습시켜 이로부터 생성되는 신경회로망의 가중치들을 템플릿에 저장한다. 그리고 테스트를 할 때에는 먼저 처음의 안정 상태의 뇌파를 이용하여 템플릿 검색을 하고 가장 가까운 템플릿을 선택한다. 그리고 선택된 템플릿을 이용하여 다른 감정에 대한 쾌적성 분류 실험을 하게 된다. 쾌적성 분류 실험 결과 평균 인식률이 약 75%의 성능을 나타내었다.
