        The Effect of High CO<sub>2</sub> Treatment and MA Packaging on Asparagus Quality and Shelf Life during Cold Storage

        Oxygen transmission rate (OTR) films of 1,300 and 10,000 cc/m<sup>2</sup>/day/atm, perforated (P), micro-perforated (MP), and vacuum (V) films were investigated for suitability in maintaining the quality and prolonging shelf life of asparagus during cold storage. An additional investigation using 60% (v/v) carbon dioxide treatment (V + 60% CO<sub>2</sub>) was also performed. All samples lost fresh weight over time, P and V + 60% CO<sub>2</sub> had the highest and lowest fresh weight loss rate by the last day. Only 1,300 cc and 10,000 cc OTR films kept the asparagus at a marketable value, the least off-odor was detected in P, and the worst was in V + 60% CO<sub>2</sub> in final day. The V + 60% CO<sub>2</sub> resulted in lower firmness in asparagus tips, and the V resulted in the lowest firmness in stems. Although, little color changes happened in all treatments, the V + 60% CO<sub>2</sub> treatment had greater soluble solids content and hue angle. The highest ethylene concentration was detected in the V film. The CO<sub>2</sub> and O<sub>2</sub> levels of the 1,300 cc and 10,000 cc OTR treatments were more suitable for asparagus storage. In general, based on the visual quality, 1,300 cc and 10,000 cc OTR films were more effective for asparagus cold storage. To some extent, high CO<sub>2</sub> treatment exhibited a positive effect on maintaining internal quality, fresh weight and color of asparagus.

        Synthesis, structure and magnetic properties of ultra-high purity CrO<sub>2</sub> prepared under high O<sub>2</sub>-gas pressure

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Ultra-high purity CrO<SUB>2</SUB> was prepared by decomposing CrO<SUB>3</SUB> in O<SUB>2</SUB> with gas pressures up to 40 MPa, which were maintained throughout the decomposition process of CrO<SUB>3</SUB> to prevent the formation of any other phases of chromium oxides. Our method is different from the traditional methods that start from or under ambient pressures. The high oxygen pressure makes the meta-stable CrO<SUB>2</SUB> stable from the initial stage of preparation. As a result, the purity of the as-prepared CrO<SUB>2</SUB> is improved, and this has been further proved by the highest magnetization of the samples. The as-prepared CrO<SUB>2</SUB> particles show very large grains with flat surfaces, octagonal cross-section, and straight edges, owing to the high mobility of Cr ions in CrO<SUB>2</SUB> at temperatures above its melting point. The lattice parameters of CrO<SUB>2</SUB> are <I>a</I> = 4.4176 Å and <I>c</I> = 2.9144 Å. The maximum value of the magnetic entropy change of the high purity CrO<SUB>2</SUB> particles is ∼2.83 J/kg·K for an applied field of 1.5 T.         Tailoring of the plasmonic and waveguide effect in bulk-heterojunction photovoltaic devices with ordered, nanopatterned structures

        Various nano-patterned bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) films with different diameters and pitches were fabricated by a stamping method to tailor the plasmonic effect. The nanopatterned BHJ active layers exhibit regular-ordered embossing structures, which were confirmed by the surface morphological analysis with SEM and AFM. The simulation results confirm that devices with nanopatterned BHJ film with a diameter/pitch of 265/400nm exhibit a strong improvement in E-field distribution intensity due to the combination of the plasmonic and waveguide modes compared to devices without a nanopattern, with 150/400nm, or with 265/800nm, which led to increased J<SUB>SC</SUB> and cell efficiency in J-V curves under solar light illumination. The optimized plasmonic effect plays an important role in the light harvesting of BHJ devices.

        Enhanced energy storage properties in PbZrO3 thin films via the incorporation of NiO

        In this study, NiO–PbZrO3 composite films were deposited on SiO2/Si substrates buffered with LaNiO3 films via the sol-gel coating technique. The effects of NiO addition in PZO thin films on the microstructure, dielectric properties, leakage mechanism, ferroelectric properties and energy storage properties have been discussed. The dielectric constant increased with the addition of NiO, while the leakage current density decreased. Compared with pure PZO films, the maximum polarization of the composite films was improved. For the composite films prepared using the NiO precursor solution with 0.05 mol/L, the recoverable energy storage density of the NiO-PZO composite film is up to 19.6 J/cm3 under the electric field of 1038 kV/cm, which is 30% higher than that of the pure PZO film under the same conditions. Also, the energy storage efficiency of the composite film reaches 48%. Accordingly, we demonstrate a simple and convenient method by adding NiO to fabricate thin films with high energy storage performance.

      • X-Ray Study of Variable Gamma-Ray Pulsar PSR J2021+4026

        <P>PSR J2021+4026 showed a sudden decrease in the gamma-ray emission at the glitch that occurred around 2011 October 16, and a relaxation of the flux to the pre-glitch state at around 2014 December. We report X-ray analysis results of the data observed by XMM-Newton on 2015 December 20 in the post-relaxation state. To examine any change in the X-ray emission, we compare the properties of the pulse profiles and spectra at the low gamma-ray flux state and at the post-relaxation state. The phase-averaged spectra for both states can be well described by a power-law component plus a blackbody component. The former is dominated by unpulsed emission and probably originated from the pulsar wind nebula as reported by Hui et al. The emission property of the blackbody component is consistent with the emission from the polar cap heated by the back-flow bombardment of the high-energy electrons or positrons that were accelerated in the magnetosphere. We found no significant change in the X-ray emission properties between two states. We suggest that the change of the X-ray luminosity is at an order of similar to 4%, which is difficult to measure with the current observations. We model the observed X-ray light curve with the heated polar cap emission, and we speculate that the observed large pulsed fraction is owing to asymmetric magnetospheric structure.</P>

        한·중 성인의 비만도에 따른 영양소 및 식품 섭취 비교

        This study compares the nutrient and food intake of Korean and Chinese adults. We analyzed data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey, Working Group of Obesity in China, and Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The participants were 79,684 adults (17,431 Korean men; 22,133 Korean women; 21,497 Chinese men; and 18,623 Chinese women). The obesity rates of the Chinese men and women (38.8%, 28.4%) were higher than those of their Korean counterparts (37.2%, 26.9%). The Chinese participants also showed a higher intake of energy, fats, and carbohydrates. However, they had a lower intake of dietary fiber, calcium, and vitamin A. They had a higher intake of grains, meat, and milk products compared to the Korean group. However, they had a lower intake of vegetables. In both countries, obese adults had a higher nutrient density of fat, carbohydrates, and sodium compared to non-obese adults. In contrast, they had a lower nutrient density of dietary fiber, calcium, and vitamin A. In conclusion, there were significant differences in the nutrient and food intake of the Korean and Chinese participants. However, there were significant similarities in nutrient density between the obese participants across the two countries.

      • 고환종양 : 21례에 대한 임상 및 병리조직학적 고찰 Analysis of 21 Cases and Review of Literatures

        Clinicopathological study was made on 21 testis tumors that were obtained during a period of 12 years, from 1960 to 1971, at the Department of Pathology and Urology, Yonsei University. The 21 cases of testis tumor are consisted of 18 malignant and 3 benign tumors and are classified histologically into 7 seminomas, 8 embryonal carcinomas, 3 teratomas, 1 reticulum cell sarcoma, 1 rhabdomyosarcoma, and I gonadoblastoma. The mean age is 24.7 years, and 36.4 years in seminoma, 15 years in embryonal carcinoma, 17.7 years in teratoma, and 33 years in miscellaneous. The tumors occurred more frequently in the right than the left. There's no bilateral occurrence. The most frequent clinical complaint was painful palpable mass which were present in 6 cases out of 10 cases. One case of seminoma is arisen from intraabdominal testis which seems frequently to precipitate tumor occurrence. The other notable case is gonadoblastoma arisen in dysgenetic testis of true hermaphroditism.

      • 간호대학생의 이론・실습 성적과 임상수행능력의 관련성 : 성인간호학 교과목을 중심으로

        Purpose: This study aimed to explore the relationship among score of theory course, score of practicum course and clinical practice ability by the course, Adult Health Nursing. Methods: A descriptive research was conducted using questionaries. Data were collected from September 25 to October 2, 2019. Participants were 67 nursing students at one university in Seoul on their junior year who have experienced clinical settings. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Cohen’s Kappa, and Scheffe’s test using SPSS 25.0 version program. Results: Participants were given a quartile number from 1 to 4 respectively according to their scores of theory course those of practicum course. The total mean score of clinical practice ability was 3.61, with a perfect score of 5. The scores of theory course and practicum course showed slight correlation(Cohen’s Kappa=.168). However, significant correlation did not existed among score of theory course, score of practicum course and clinical practice ability. Conclusion: The result showed that score of theory course, score of practicum course and clinical practice ability have no significant correlation. However, its finding suggests the necessity of further research about various approach and new evaluation methods needed in order to improve nursing students’ competency.
