In recent years, the study on the high efficiency of the internal combustion engine has been mainly proceeding. In this study, we developed rotary valve to achieve the improvement of volumetric efficiency and to be simple construction. And then made a comparative analysis between rotary and poppet valve. In this experiment, rotary valve enlarged the flow area of valve port to minimize the resistance of the fluid flow and to flow smoothly in intake and exhaust process. Indeed, valve timing was controlled properly lest positive pressure in exhaust process should affect intake process. Motoring and firing experiments were using engine speed and air-fuel ratio as the principle parameter and the full opening of throttle valve and minimum spark advance for best torque (MBT) as engine operating variables.

This paper is to survey the grafting possibility of environmental literacy education onto environmental education in the Republic of Korea’s educational institutes for ecological restoration. This will be achieved through Rachel Carson’s environmental essays such as The Sea Around Us and Preserving a Sense of Wonder which are written in poetic and lyrical words or phrases rather than in terms of natural scientific perspectives. Carson, a ‘slow writer’ of nature, is a regarded as a faithful ‘amanuensis’ of natural voice sublating a sort of parched literal style matched to that of theoretical writings. Carson’s environmental education to her young nephew through her environmental literacy education is very unique in that it does not intend to teach him grandiose principles of nature in such a fashion of learning by rote, but induces him to feel the natural entities slowly for himself through the personification of nature. In view of this, in order to slow down environmental destruction or pollution, and to recover the ecological balance in Korea, above all it is necessary for youths in primary and secondary schools to be cultivated in ‘ecological literacy’ in mind, which can be fostered with so-called ‘nature dictation’ of Carson’s nature writing style by overcoming informal gigantic discourse in environmental argument.
본 히펠 린다우병 환자에서 소뇌와 척수에 동시에 발생한 혈관아세포종 - 증례보고 -

Hemangioblastomas are rare benign tumor of the central nervous system that commonly occur in the posterior fossa around the 4th ventricle. In case of von Hippel-Lindau disease, hemangioblastomas involve multiple regions such as cerebellum, spinal cord and brainstem but, rarely show simultaneous involvement of cerebellum and spinal cord. We have experienced a case of multiple hemangioblastomas that were located at the cerebellum, cervical cord and conus medullaris and also had multiple lesions that a part of von Hippel-Lindau disease ; retinal angioma, syringomyelia, multiple cyst on kidney and pancreas, renal cell carcinoma on left kidney. Hemangioblastomas on cerebellum and spinal cord were removed totally, retinal angioma was treated with laser photocoagulation and renal cell carcinoma was also totally excised. The authors report a case of von Hippel-Lindau disease had multiple located hemangioblastomas on cerebellum, cervical cord and conus medullaris with review of literature.

Purpose: We have performed both open partial nephrectomy (OPN) and laparoscopic radiofrequency ablation (RFA) on selected patients since January 2007 and have been following these patients through serial laboratory assessments and computed tomography (CT). The purpose of the present study was to evaluate long-term oncologic outcomes and renal function status for laparoscopic RFA versus OPN at a minimum follow-up of 3 years. Materials and Methods: A total of 55 patients with exophytic, single small renal masses were treated with either OPN (n=14) or laparoscopic RFA (n=41) by a single surgeon. The indications for laparoscopic RFA were as follows: 1) cases with the greatest dimension of the renal mass <3 cm, and 2) cases in which the collecting system, renal calyx, and great vessels were free from the tumor margins by 1 cm. Results: The estimated blood loss (EBL), the operation time, and the mean number of hospital days was significantly lower in the laparoscopic RFA group than in the OPN group. Oncologic data did not differ significantly between the two groups. Creatine clearance levels did not differ significantly compared with those before the operation in either group. Conclusions: Our data suggest excellent therapeutic outcomes with laparoscopic RFA with achievement of effective operative times, hospital stays, and EBL compared with OPN. According to our indications for laparoscopic RFA, laparoscopic RFA is an effective minimally invasive therapy for the treatment of small renal masses, yielding oncologic outcomes and renal function equivalent to those of OPN.
