Incidentally found cystic lymphangioma of the adrenal gland in an elderly male cadaver

Adrenal cystic lymphangiomas are extremely rare entities that are often identified incidentally, with less than 60 cases reported to date. We found a protruding ovoid mass consisting of a multiloculated cystic lesion within right adrenal gland in the cadaver of a 75-year-old Korean man. The epithelial cells lining the adrenal cyst were diffusely positive for cluster of differentiation 31 and podoplanin, and negative for pan-cytokeratin. The histopathological diagnosis confirmed a cystic lymphangioma arising from the adrenal gland. Post-mortem findings of the present case are discussed based on the clinicopathological features of adrenal cystic lymphangiomas.
Alternative skin irritation test using the MCTT skin model

Reconstructed skin give advantages to single cell culture testing system and leads to promising results as be shown in different validation studies. In this study we investigated the efficacy of MCTT Skin model compared with in vivo test. We conducted endpoint analysis including cell viability and IL-1 alpha release. Sodium lauryl sulfate(20%), Potassium hydoxide(5%), Heptanal, Methyl palmitate, 1,1,1-Trichloroethane, 2,4-Xylidine, 3,3`-Dithiodipropionic acid, 4-Amino-1,2,4-triazol and Benzyl chloroformate were selected for this comparison. Potassium hydoxide(5%) and Benzyl chloroformate were excluded from animal tests because of their pH. Sodium lauryl sulfate induced severe irritation, Heptanal induced moderate irritation. Methyl palmitate, 1,1,1-Trichloroethane induced mild irritation. 2,4-Xylidine, 3,3`-Dithiodipropionic acid, 4-Amino-1,2,4-triazole induced no irritation on rabbit skin irritation test. Except Methyl palmitate and 2,4-Xylidine, the results were same between MCTT Skin model and in vivo skin irritation test. According to other studies, the results of other skin model and in vivo test of Methyl palmitate and 2,4-Xylidine were shown different result each other. Thus, we concluded that this MCTT Skin model is useful for alternative skin irritation test, although other tests should be conducted for many other chemicals in international validation study.

PNF Concept중 Scapula and Pelvis의 Symmetrical Reciprocal Pattern이 Hemiplegia환자의 보행속도와 균형감각에 미치는 효과

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of symmetrical-reciprocal pattern of scapula and pelvis exercises using proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) on gait speed and balance in patients with hemiplegia. Methods: Among the adult patients with hemiplegia that were hospitalized at Michuhol Rehabilitation Center after being diagnosed with stroke, 10 that were capable of independent walking for more than five minutes and that understood and cooperated with the therapy and test methods of this research, were selected as subjects. The therapy was implemented based on the concept of PNF, and it was performed on a low mat and a height-adjustable mat, as proscribed by the fundamental procedure for PNF. Symmetrical-reciprocal pattern of scapula and pelvis exercises were applied to the patients in the decubitus position. The therapy scheme included stabilizing reversals, rhythmic stabilization, and a combination of isotonics, rhythmic initiation, and dynamic reversals. To investigate gait speed and body trunk mobility before and after the symmetrical-reciprocal pattern of scapula and pelvis exercises were applied, walking speed for a distance of 10 m was measured and balance was tested based on the Berg-Balance scale test table. The Berg-Balance scale test was performed by one therapist to minimize any error that could occur from the subjective evaluation method used by therapists. Results: Gait speed increased by 8.97 seconds after applying the symmetrical-reciprocal pattern of scapula and pelvis exercises using the concept of PNF, showing a significant difference (p<0.01). However, balance showed no significant difference after the therapy (p>0.14). Conclusion: Exercise therapy that uses the symmetrical-reciprocal pattern of scapula and pelvis with the concept of PNF can be said to be a useful therapeutic technique that can enhance the walking speed of patients with hemiplegia.
