하악 과두의 발달과 증식은 측두하악관절 부위의 생역학적 환경의 변화에 따라 변경될 수 있다. 이 부위에 전달되는 생역학적 하중은 섭취하는 음식물의 경도를 다르게 함으로써 변화시킬 수 있다. 이번 연구의 목적은 성장 중인 쥐에서 부드러운 음식물의 섭취에 의해 저작력을 변화시키는 것이 하악 과두의 해면골의 형태를 변화시킬 수 있는지 미세전산화 단층촬영을 이용하여 분석하는 것이었다. 생후 21일 된 C57BL/6 쥐 36마리를 무작위로 두 그룹으로 나누었다. 8주 동안 내조군의 쥐들은 일반적인 딱딱한 덩어리의 사료를, 실험군의 쥐들은 덩어리의 사료를 잘게 갈은 후 물과 섞어 부드럽게 만들어 먹였다. 또한 실험군의 쥐들의 하악 절치를 일주일에 두 번씩 잘라서 짧게 만들었다. 8주 후 모든 쥐들을 희생하여 우측 하악 과두를 준비하였다. 미세전산화 단층촬영과 삼차원 영상 분석프로그램을 이용하여 하악 과두 해면골의 bone volume(BV), bone surface(BS), total volume(TV), bone volume fraction(BV/TV), surface to volume ratio(BS/BV), trabecular thickness(Tb.Th.), structure model index(SMI)와 degree of anisotropy(DA)를 측정하고 이들 값으로부터 trabecular number(Tb. N.)와 trabecular separation (Tb. Sp.)을 계산하였다. 미세전산화 단층영상을 얻은 후 하악 과두의 조직 표본을 만들었다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같았다. 1. Bone volume fraction(BV/TV), trabecular thickness(Tb. Th.)와 trabecular number(Tb. N.)가 대조군에 비해 부드러운 음식을 먹인 실험군에서 유의하게 감소되었다(p<0.05). 2. Trabecular separation(Tb. Sp.)은 부드러운 음식을 먹인 실험군에서 유의하게 증가하였다(p<0.05). 3. Surface to volume ratio(BS/BV), strucutre model index(SMI). degree of anisotropy (DA)는 두 군 사이에 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다(p>0.05). 4. 조직 절편을 관찰한 결과, 부드러운 사료를 먹인 실험군에서 하악 과두의 연골층의 증식 층과 전체 두께가 상당히 감소하였다. The development and proliferation of the mandibular condyle can be altered by changes in the biomechanical environment of the temporomandibular joint. The biomechanical loads were varied by feeding diets of different consistencies. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether changes of masticatory forces by feeding a soft diet can alter the trabecular bone morphology of the growing mouse mandibular condyle, by means of micro-computed tomography. Thirty-six female, 21 days old, C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into two groups. Mice in the hard-diet control group were fed standard hard rodent pellets for 8 weeks. The soft-diet group mice were given soft ground diets for 8 weeks and their lower incisors were shortened by cutting with a wire cutter twice a week to reduce incision. After 8 weeks all animals were killed after they were weighed. Following sacrifice, the right mandibular condyle was removed. High spatial resolution tomography was done with a Skyscan Micro-CT 1072. Cross-sections were scanned and three-dimensional images were reconstructed from 2D sections. Morphometric and nonmetric parameters such as bone volume(BV), bone surface(BS), total volume (TV) , bone volume fraction(BV/TV) , surface t o volume ratio(BS/BV) , trabecular thickness (Tb. Th.), structure model index(SM1) and degree of anisotropy(DA) were directly determined by means of the software package a t the micro-CT system. From directly determined indices the trabecular number(Tb. N.) and trabecular separation(Tb. Sp.) were calculated according to parallel plate model of Parfitt et al.. After micro-tomographic imaging, the samples were decalcified, dehydrated, embedded and sectioned for histological observation. The results were as follow: 1. The bone volume fraction, trabecular thickness(Tb. Th.) and trabecular number(Tb. N.) were significantly decreased in the soft-diet group compared with that of the control group(p〈0.05) 2. The trabecular separation(Tb. Sp.) was significantly increased in the soft-diet group(p〈0.05). 3. There was no significant differences in the surface to volume ratio(BS/BV), structure model index(SM1) and degree of anisotropy(DA) between the soft-diet group and hard-diet control group(p〉0.05). 4. Histological sections showed that the thickness of the proliferative layer and total cartilage thickness were significantly reduced in the soft-diet group.

Background: Postmarketing surveillance is conducted to establish drug safety and effectiveness under real practice. Objectives: To validate ustekinumab’s effectiveness and safety in the treatment of adult Korean patients with plaque psoriasis under real practice. Methods: This was a prospective, observational, and multi-center study. The study subjects were aged 18 years and above, who were administered ustekinumab for treating plaque psoriasis. Results: The study included 977 patients; 66.9% were male, with a mean±standard deviation of BSA(%) of 27.0±18.3 and mean PASI of 18.1±9.7. The effectiveness analysis included 581 patients who had at least one follow-up assessment and met treatment criteria per local label and reimbursement guidelines; of these patients, 287 had effectiveness data for visit 6. The timing of visit 6 occurred at 53.7±2.1, weeks; at visit 6 91.6%, 51.2%, and 9.4% achieved PASI75, PASI90, and PASI100 responses, respectively. Adverse events (AEs) occurred in 11.5% yielding an incidence rate of 21.5/100 patient-years (PYs). Serious AEs occurred in 0.8% with an incidence rate of 1.2/100 PYs. The estimated 1-year drug retention rate was 87.7%. Multiple logistic regression analyses showed that higher baseline PASI score and no prior biologic exposure were significant predictors for PASI90 response at visit 6. Conclusion: Ustekinumab is effective and safe, with high drug retention in the treatment of adult Korean patients with plaque psoriasis in real-world practice.
Vertical Alignment of Carbon Nanotubes Using the Magneto-Evaporation Method

<P>We developed a novel method of vertical alignment of SWNTs using a single-step process for the simultaneous vertical alignment of the SWNTs by a magnetic field and the fixation of their alignment by means of the direct evaporation of the films. We fabricated Fe-oxide/SWNT samples that are reacted by iron-oleate complex, oleic acid and cut SWNTs in 1-octadecene. The Fe-oxide/SWNT samples are dispersed in N,N-dimethylformamide and the resulting solution was deposited on an ITO glass substrate using the spraying method with magnetic field. After evaporation of the SWNT solution in the presence of a magnetic field, we transferred the nanotubes to the vacuum-evaporator chamber, and titanium is evaporated by e-beam evaporation to hold the vertical alignment of the SWNTs. The resulting SWNTs exhibit the formation of a high degree of vertically aligned SNWTs over a large area. We showed that the degree of orientation of the SWNTs is strongly influenced by the field strength, film thickness of the evaporating molecules and evaporating rates. This technique takes significant advantages of the alignment of SWNTs with high aspect ratio at room temperature, without any organic binders and without the need for further alignment procedures. Moreover, this method might be applicable to other anisotropic materials with high aspect ratio.</P>

Brief communication : A Case of Colonic Adenocarcinoma in a Patient with Wilson`s Disease

Wilson`s disease (WD) is an autosomal recessive inherited disorder of copper metabolism that results in the accumulation of copper in the body and primarily in the liver, brain, and cornea. Copper is a toxic metal and might be associated with cancer induction. Most malignancies associated with WD are hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma. Other intra-abdominal malignancies have been only rarely reported. To our knowledge, this is the first report to suggest that patients with WD may be vulnerable to a malignant change in the colonic mucosa during long-term copper chelating therapy. We report a case of colonic adenocarcinoma in a patient with WD and review the related literature. (Gut Liver 2013; 7:500-503)

The selenium (Se) is now recognized as an essential component of various selenoenzymes. To study whether Se treatment affects the endoplasmic reticulum ER stress signaling pathway in the non-obese diabetic (NOD) mice, the indicator protein on the ER stress pathway was examined in the liver of the NOD mice by the western blot analysis. It was observed that Se acted as the insulin-like effects on glucose level in the Se-treated diabetes-susceptible (DS)-NOD mice. Nevertheless, Se treatment activated ER stress signal through the phosphorylation of JNK and eIF2 protein. In conclusion, these results suggest that Se component play an important role in the down-regulation of glucose level and the activation of some intermediate signaling proteins associated with ER stress signal pathway in the NOD mice.
Investigation of Radioactivity (Sr, Pu, Cs, I) Level of Domestic Agricultural Products

To ensure food safety of agricultural products from radioactive contamination, radioactivity monitoring was conducted with some samples of domestic agricultural products in 2020. The number of 15 samples of agricultural products was surveyed 3 kinds of main category. After pre-treatments such as washing, drying, homogenization and chemical methods, samples were analyzed. Plutonium (<SUP>239+240</SUP>Pu) was measured using alpha spectrometry after pretreatment with the resin method and electro deposition. Strontium (<SUP>90</SUP>Sr) was measured with a low background gas proportional α/β counter after pretreatment using the fuming nitric acid method. Also, Cesium (<SUP>137</SUP>Cs, <SUP>134</SUP>Cs) and iodine (<SUP>131</SUP>I) were measured with HPGe gamma spectrometer. The results of <SUP>90</SUP>Sr, <SUP>239+240</SUP>Pu, <SUP>137</SUP>Cs, <SUP>134</SUP>Cs and <SUP>131</SUP>I were all below the MDA (Minimum Detectable Activity) for all samples. The obtained values provide useful information on the background concentration of some radionuclides in agricultural products and will be able to use a basis for determing contamination of some radionuclides in agricultrual products.
