<P>Recently, a new process for machining glassy carbon using electrochemical oxidation has been introduced. The process is effective in reducing cracks on the machined surface of glassy carbon, unlike conventional mechanical processes. This paper proposes a method for increasing the electrochemical oxidation rate in this process by applying a high overvoltage to improve the material removal rate. Suitable electrochemical conditions for applying high overvoltage were investigated. Experiments were conducted by varying the electrochemical conditions, including high overvoltage, to compare the material removal rates. The results showed that the material removal rate could be increased by using a high overvoltage. (C) 2017 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved.</P>

An Economic Analysis of Transportation Equipments at Container Terminals

The motivation of this study is the recent advancement of the Straddle Carrier (S/C). Previously Straddle Carrier (S/C) system was used focusing on container lift on/off due to its lower driving speed than that of (Y/T). Shuttle Carrier is evaluated as an upgraded Straddle Carrier. Recently, however, the driving speed of (S/C) has been improved to the level of Yard Tractor and Trailer systems (Y/T), which is 30Km per hour which makes (S/C) qualified as terminal in-yard transportation equipment. This paper, therefore, aims to evaluate three types of terminal in-yard transportation equipments such as (Y/T), (AGV) and the advanced (S/C) from economic perspective. The results revealed that by observing the total costs of equipment, (S/C) is a cheaper option than (Y/T) over 20 years, and than (AGV) over 6 years.

Aims: We have evaluated the efficacy and safety of the sofosbuvir (SOF) and weight-based ribavirin (RBV) therapy in genotype 2 hepatitis C virus (HCV) infected Korean patients in real clinical settings. Methods: A total of 323 patients who received SOF plus RBV between May 2016 and February 2017 at the liver unit of the Catholic University of Korea were consecutively recruited and analyzed. Patients with chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis underwent 12 weeks and 16 weeks of antiviral therapy, respectively. The primary endpoint was sustained virologic response 12 weeks after the end of treatment (SVR12). Results: The mean age was 61.6±11.8 years and 36% of the patients were male. 238 (73.7%) patients had chronic hepatitis, 78 (24.1%) compensated cirrhosis, and 7 (2.2%) decompensated cirrhosis. 17 (5.3%) patients had a history of hepatocellular carcinoma treatment. 52 (16.1%) patients were treatment experienced (7 non-responders, 33 prior relapse, and 12 intolerable to interferon based treatment). 95.1% (293/308) of the patients achieved undetectable HCV RNA at week 4, 99.6% (255/256) end of treatment response and 96.6% (141/146) SVR12. No difference was observed according to age, previous treatment experience, viral load and cirrhosis (P>0.05). Overall, the SOF plus RBV regimen was well-tolerated but 4 patient discontinued treatment due to possible drug-related side effects. The most frequently observed adverse event was anemia and 15.9% (47/296), 5.4% (16/296) of the patients experienced grade 2 and grade 3 anemia, respectively. The doses of RBV were reduced to median 825mg and 577mg daily in grade 2 and 3 anemia groups, respectively but the SVR12 were 100% in both groups. Conclusions: Sofosbuvir and ribavirin regimen resulted in a high SVR rate and was tolerable in genotype 2 HCV infected Korean patients in real clinical practice.

Aims: The aim of this study was to determine the factors associated with the development of major clinical adverse events in genotype 1 hepatitis C virus (HCV) infected Korean patients who received direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy in real clinical settings. Methods: A total of 648 genotype 1 HCV infected patients who received DAA therapy between May 2016 and January 2018 at the liver units of the Catholic University of Korea were analyzed. Primary endpoints were hepatic decompensation and/or treatment discontinuation due to adverse events and the development of de novo hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Results: The median follow-up period was 12.8 months (range, 1.3~34.8). 70.7% of the patients had chronic hepatitis and 29.3% compensated cirrhosis. Treatment discontinuation due to adverse events occurred in 2.8% (18/648), hepatic decompensation in 1.4% (9/648) and de novo HCC developed in 3.1% (19/620) of the patients. In multivariate analysis, baseline platelet count less than 150,000/㎣ (P=0.022), estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) less than 50 mL/min/1.73㎡ (P=0.037) and baseline serum albumin less than 3.5g/dL (P=0.035) were independently associated with hepatic decompensation and/or treatment discontinuation due to adverse events. Also, platelet count less than 150,000/㎣ was independently associated with the development of de novo HCC (P=0.048). Conclusions: Patients with low platelet count and serum albumin level, which are indicators of portal hypertension, and patients with renal impairment were more likely to experience hepatic decompensation and/or treatment discontinuation due to adverse events. Low platelet count was associated with de novo HCC development. These patients should be meticulously followed up during and after the DAA therapy.

<P>We report the preparation of high-performance low-voltagepentacene-basedorganic field-effect transistors (OFETs) fabricated on a metallicfiber (Al wire) substrate. The surface roughness of the wire was significantlyreduced after 10 min of electro-polishing. A 120 nm thick Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> gate dielectric layer was deposited on the anodizedwire, followed by octadecyltrichlorosilane (ODTS) treatment. The ODTS-modifiedAl<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> gate dielectrics formed around the Alwire showed a high capacitance of 50.1 nF cm<SUP>–2</SUP> andhydrophobic surface characteristics. Experience with Ledipasvir/Sofosbuvir-Based Treatment for the Treatment of HCV Genotype 1a in Korea

Aims: In this multicenter retrospective cohort study, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of IFN-free direct acting anti-viral agents (DAA) for patients with HCV genotype 1a in a real life setting in Korea. Methods: We analyzed clinical data of all consecutive DAA-treated patients for chronic HCV genotype 1a infection from eight clinical centers in Korea. Between May 2016 to April 2017, 35 patients were included in this study. The primary efficacy endpoint was end of treatment response (ETOR) and sustained virological response 12 weeks (SVR12). Adverse events (AEs) and laboratory data were also collected for analysis. Results: A total of 35 patients with genotype 1a HCV infection, 8 patients (22.9%) had compensated liver cirrhosis and 14 patients (40%) were treatment-experienced. Ledipasvir/sofosbuvir (LDV/SOF) with ribavirin were administered to six of seven treatment-experienced patients with cirrhosis. Thirteen patients were over 65 years old (37.1%) and female patients were dominant (65.7%, 23/35 patients). The Child-Pugh scores of all patients were 5 or 6. The rate of SVR12 was 94.7% (18/19 patients) and the rate of ETOR was 96.6% (28/29 patients). SVR12 and ETOR were obtained in all patients completed treatment for 12 weeks. Five of 33 patients (15.2%) had detectable HCV RNA at week 4 of therapy, but all of them achieved SVR12. LDV/SOF without ribavirin was tolerated well. The dose of ribavirin was reduced in two patients because they complained fatigue and general weakness after the treatment of LDV/SOF with ribavirin. Conclusions: In patients with HCV genotype 1a infection, LDV/SOF based regimen was very effective and well tolerated.

A Study on the Application of RFID to Container Terminals

The container terminals in Korea usually adopts both the bar code and the image recognition systems at the gate complex to capture necessary information on containers passing through the gate. With the rapid advancement of Information Technology(IT) these systems, however, seem to make the user not satisfied due to the inherent limitations such as the long process time taken, low rate of recognition etc., This paper, therefore, examines the adoption of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to container terminals, and tried to get some implication for the way to improve the productivity of the terminal. The results imply that some improvement in the gate and storage yard operation is feasible by the benefit of using the information of vehicles and containers collected in advance by RFID technology.
