The solvent extraction to separate and recover cobalt and nickel from sulfuric acid solution was studied using Cyanex 272 in kerosene. The solution processed was equivalent to that expected from leaching of a matte, intermediate product of manganese nodules. The extraction of both metals increased with increasing equilibrium pH and extractant concentration. However, cobalt was preferentially extracted over nickel. The extraction efficiencies of cobalt and nickel were 80% and 1.9% respectively with 0.2M Cyanex and O/A of 1 at equilibrium pH 5.0. The separation factor of Co/Ni increased with raising the extraction temperature (205 at 20℃, and at 441 at 50℃). The saponification of Cynanex 272 increased the extraction of cobalt due to the increase of equilibrium pH. Nickel (0.40 g/l) loaded in an organic phase could be scrubbed with a solution containing 10 g/l Co at equilibrium pH of 6.0. The stage numbers and cobalt recoveries in extraction and stripping processes required for the counter current operations are predicted using the equilibrium isotherm plots. (Received May 19, 2004)

we observed 283 cases of pediatric patients who complain of upper gastrointestinal symptoms for average more than a month by gastrofiberscopes in internal medicine and pediatric department of Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, Hallym College, from January 1981 to December l985 and following results were obtained. 1) The male to female retio was about 1.2:1. The frequency of age distribution inorder is 67.5% in puberty, 27.2% in late childhood, and 5.3% in early childhood. 2) There was no relationship between upper gastrointestinal symptoms and each age groups. 3) The diseas classification in order of frequency were gastroenteritis (51.6%), functional gastrointestinal disturbance(23.0%), peptic ulcer(12.7%), and hepatitis(3.2%). 4) The endoscopic abnormalities were noted 80.%, in early childhood, 68.8%.: in late childhood, and 76.4% in puberty. 5) Gastrofiberscopy in considered to be simple, safe and highly valuable tool making diagnosis of upper gastrointestinal disease.

A novel recombinant baculovirus, designated AcB5A, was constructed to develop an improved baculovirus insecticide with additional beneficial properties. Bacillus thuringiensis crystal protein gene (cry1-5) and an insect-specific neurotoxin gene (AaIT) were introduced into the Autographa californica multicapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV) genome by fusion of polyhedrin-cry1-5-polyhedrin under the control of polyhedrin gene promoter, and by insertion of AaIT under the control of early promoter of ORF3004 from Cotesia plutellae bracovirus. RT-PCR analysis with total RNA from AcB5A-infected cells indicated that cry1-5 and AaIT genes were normally transcribed. The 150 kDa of polyhedrin-Cry1-5-polyhedrin fusion protein was produced by AcB5A and occluded into polyhedra produced by the recombinant virus. This protein was activated when treated with trypsin to form a crystal protein of approximately 65 kDa. The AcB5A showed a high level of insecticidal activity against Plutella xylostella larvae and a significant reduction in the lethal time against Spodoptera exigua larvae compared to those infected with wild-type AcMNPV. The expression level of the fusion protein decreased after in vivo passage as a result of homologous recombination between the two polyhedrin genes.

In Korea, a Lymantria dispar multinucleocapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus, LdMNPV-NM, was isolated and characterized from dead L. dispar larvae. The polyhedra of LdMNPV-NM were irregularly shaped with a diameter of $1.62{\pm}0.33{\mu}m$. Numerous virions comprised of the multinucleocapsid were evident in the electron microscopic examination of the polyhedra cross sections. These polyhedra were composed of a major protein of 30 kDa. The restriction enzyme digestion patterns of LdMNPV-NM showed that this isolate had some different fragments from those of the Gypchek LdMNPV isolate, although their overall profiles were similar. The deduced amino acid sequence of the enhancin gene of LdMNPV-NM showed differences when compared to previously reported enhancin genes of other LdMNPV strains. These results suggested that the LdMNPV-NM isolate from Korea was a new NPV strain and had a new enhancin gene.

Angiomyolipoma is formed of heterotropic tissue and as such is probably most appropriately regarded as a choristoma rather than. as a neoplasm. We experienced one case of angiomyolipoma of the kidney in 36-year-old male, and report this case a review of literature.
Three-Dimensional Photogrammetric Study on Age-Related Facial Characteristics in Korean Females

Background: Understanding the age-related morphological changes of facial soft tissue is fundamental in achieving improved outcomes of rejuvenating procedures. Three-dimensional (3D) photogrammetry is a reliable and convenient anthropometric tool to assess facial soft tissue. Objective: The aim of this study was to establish age-related facial soft tissue morphology in Korean adult females using non-invasive 3D photogrammetry. Methods: One hundred and ninety-two female participants were divided into three groups based on age: the younger group (aged 20∼39 years), middle group (40∼59 years), and older group (60∼79 years). Thirty-six landmarks were identified via 3D photogrammetric scanning (Morpheus 3D, Morpheus Co., Ltd., Seongnam, Korea). Fortyone facial dimensions were analyzed using the imaging software to find significance between the age groups. Results: Smaller upper-facial volume (p=0.019) and shorter upperfacial height (p=0.034) were observed in the older group than in the younger group. In the mid-face, narrowed palpebral fissure (p<0.001) with elongated upper eyelid height (p<0.001) and widened nose (p<0.001) were observed in the older group compared with the younger group. Longer lower-facial height (p<0.001) with longer and wider philtrum (p<0.001, p=0.004, respectively), shorter lower vermilion height (p<0.001), wider mouth width (p<0.001), and smaller lower vermilion angle (p<0.001) were seen in the older group when compared with the younger group. Moreover, greater angles of nasofrontal, nasomental, and labiomental angle (p=0.015, p=0.015, p=0.080, respectively), and smaller nasofacial angle (p=0.034) were observed in the older group than in the younger group. Conclusion: Our results provide clues of aging-related facial morphological characteristics in Korean female population. (Ann Dermatol 33(1) 52∼60, 2021)
