Effects of 5HT1A Activation on Depression Profile Following 5-HT Depletion in Rats Lacking Social Attachment Since Weanling

        Kuo-Jung Chang,Yu-Jung Chen,Jing-Yi Chung,Chen-Cheng Lin,Yia-Ping Liu 대한신경정신의학회 2018 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.15 No.11

Objective Post weanling isolation-reared (IR) rats are featured with depressive phenotype, yet its mechanism is not clearly defined particularly in terms of the involvement of central 5-HT1A receptors. The present study aims to examine the effects of 5HT1A activation on forced swim test (FST) in IR rats following 5-HT depletion. Methods Social control (SOC) and IR rats received an intracerebraoventricular (ICV) injection of 5-HT depletion agent, 5,7-DHT. 14 days after the surgery, rats were assessed their performance in FST with or without the challenge with a 5-HT1A agonist, 8-OH-DPAT. Rats were then sacrificed for analyzing their 5-HT tissue levels and the expressions of their 5-HA1A receptors in prefrontal cortex (PFC), hippocampus (HPX), and amygdala (AMY). Results 5,7-DHT decreased the tissue concentration of 5-HT in both IR and SOC rats. IR rats were more immobile and less sensitive to the lesion-induced immobility, however this effect was reversed by acute challenge of 8-OH-DPAT. 5,7-DHT lesion increased the expression of PFC 5-HT1A receptors. Conclusion The integrity of central 5-HT system is developmentally crucial for the 5-HT1A-relevant depression profile in rats of social isolation.

Recovery over Time of Production Performance and Biological Functions of Laying Hens after Withdrawal Toxic Levels of Dietary Roxarsone

        Wu, Chean-Ping,Tsay, Shiow-Min,Chiou, Peter Wen-Shyg,Chen, Kuo-Lung Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2006 Animal Bioscience Vol.19 No.1

Roxarsone (3-nitro-4-hydroxyphenylarsonic acid) has been used as feed additives in poultry industries to improve production and control coccidiosis. The effect of high dietary levels of Roxarsone (ROX) on the performance and function of internal organs and the kinetics of recovery as well as its after-effects were examined in laying hens. The inclusion rates of ROX were 0, 100, 200, 300, and 400 mg per kg feed. Inclusion up to 200 mg did not show any adverse effects (p>0.05), whereas in the 300 and 400 mg groups, significant effects, particularly in the latter, were observed for three weeks after ROX addition (p<0.05). Recovery of the physical appearance occurred soon after ROX addition was withdrawn. Recovery of performance and internal organs, however, appeared to be dependent on the amount of residual ROX in the body; as the amount of ROX decreased, the toxic effect of ROX also decreased. In the third week after the withdrawal of ROX, complete recovery was observed in the lower dosage groups (100 or 200 mg groups) (p>0.05), whereas in the higher dosage groups (300 or 400 mg groups), recovery took at least five weeks; when complete recovery was observed in egg production and in liver weight (p>0.05). On the other hand, ROX might have damaged the liver and other tissues. The recovery of liver weight was probably due to accumulation of fatty particles rather than repair. It appeared, therefore, there were little after-effects of ROX on the hen's physical appearance, but some internal organs were probably damaged.

Development of a Cost-effective High-precision Bench Machine Tool for Multi-level Micro Aspheric Lightinglens Mold Machining

Shun-Tong Chen,Kuo-En Chang,Wei-Ping Huang,Hong-Ye Yang,Xiu-Mao Lee 한국정밀공학회 2012 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.

This study presents the development of a cost-effective high-precision bench machine tool prototype for machining multi-level micro aspheric lighting-lens molds. To achieve high-precision over a long lifetime of micromachining, the bench machine tool is designed using a small C-shaped framework to strengthen static rigidity and vibration resistance. The primary structures of the machine tool are constructed with tempered nodular graphite cast iron to obtain a high damping coefficient and high inherent resonant frequency. A multi-level aspheric curve generator is designed according to the multi-level aspheric curve equation to easily create an aspheric curve and then rotated into an aspheric surface form with a symmetrical optical axis. The verifications of the designed bench machine tool’s functions were conducted by machining the micro aspheric lighting-lens molds using highspeed micro milling. Experimental results demonstrate that form accuracy and surface roughness for the micro aspheric lightinglens mold of Rt 2.937 μm and Ra equal to 0.032 μm respectively could be simultaneously achieved. The developed cost-effective bench machine tool can supply high-quality and fast machining in the fabrication of micro optoelectronic molds such as those used for micro aspheric lighting-lenses.

      • A Study of Hakka Image Application to Hakka Food Packaging Design

        Shiunn-Der Kuo,Hui-Ping Chen,Jeng-Shian Chiou,Tzyy-Lin Bau 세계문화관광학회 2010 Conference Proceedings Vol.11 No.0

The purpose of this research was to investigate images used in the packaging design for Hakka food. In recent years, the Council for Hakka Affairs, Executive Yuan, Taiwan has used "fabric", " blue shirts", and "tung blossom" as image codes to represent Hakka culture, and successfully integrated those codes into packaging designs for Hakka merchandise. They convey a traditional Hakka image, and the refined packaging designs are also more popular. Based on a literature review of Hakka images and packaging design, the study summarized 15 design elements regarding Hakka images and randomly selected 20 Hakka food packaging samples from markets. A visual image analysis was conducted by applying the Semantic Differential and Likert Scale. The results found that "tung blossom", "Hakka women", and "Hakka broad rice noodles" were the three most representative images of Hakka culture. Moreover, "simplification", "refinement", and "internationalization" were found to be the most popular characteristics that formed a new trend in Hakka packaging design. We expect that Hakka products with refined packages designed by employing appropriate Hakka images can boost product sales. As a whole, the infusion of soft power derived from products with elaborately improved packaging design can activate business development in the creativity and culture industry.

Research on the relation the characteristics of the faculty and the commitment to continuous improvement of motivations and student study processes

        Kun-Dang Chen,Ping-Kuo Chen 서울대학교 교육연구소 2017 Asia Pacific Education Review Vol.18 No.4

This study focused on China’s higher education system and explored if personality traits were a mediator of the relationship between motivational mechanisms and continuous improvement, and further explored if leadership change was a moderator of the relationship between personality traits and continuous improvement of the motivations and student study processes. In this paper, partial least squares (PLS) was the primary methodology used to test mediation and moderation. This study analysed 350 samples even though a large sample may cause an evaluative error in the mediation effect when using PLS. For this reason, we further adopted the Sobel test to verify this effect. According to the test results, in addition to motivational mechanisms having a positive effect on continuous improvement of the motivations and student study processes, personality traits are a mediator that influences the effect of motivational mechanisms on the continuous improvement of the motivations and student study processes. Furthermore, we proved that leadership change is a moderator between personality traits and continuous improvement of the motivations and student study processes. In addition, we discussed the relationship between mediation and moderation effects of different personality traits and leadership change.
