Mental Health and Related Factors of Adolescent Students During Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic

        Tian’ge Lu,Yao Yu,Zhonghui Zhao,Rongjuan Guo 대한신경정신의학회 2022 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.19 No.1

Objective Adolescents are at a special stage of physical and mental development, which is a susceptible period for mental disorders. Since the outbreak of coronavirus pneumonia in December 2019, long term stress may have negative effects on the mental health of the adolescents. In the context of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the study was designed to investigate the mental and psychological health of adolescents in China and its possible related factors. Methods A cross-sectional study design was adopted using a structured questionnaire which were distributed through the Internet to measure depression, anxiety, life events and stress related factors. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression analyses were conducted to process the data. Results The final sample comprised 795 adolescents. The total detection rate of depression was 76.48% and the total detection rate of anxiety was 33.08%. ANOVA showed that there were significant differences in depression scores in terms of gender, anxiety scores, history of mental disorders, COVID-19 knowledge reserve, family and social contradictions (p<0.05). And there were significant differences in anxiety scores in terms of gender, depression scores, mental health knowledge reserves, family and social contradictions (p<0.05). Multiple regression analysis showed that anxiety score, health status and COVID-19 knowledge reserve were positively associated with depression score (p<0.01), and history of psychosocial disorders was negatively associated with depression score (p<0.05); depression score, family and social contradictions were significantly positively correlated with anxiety score (p<0.01), and history of mental disorders was significantly negatively correlated with SDS score (p<0.01). Conclusion During the outbreak of COVID-19, adolescent students with better understanding of the pandemic, more complete knowledge of mental health, and better family and social relationship had less impact on their mental health. Therefore, to ensure a sound social support system, elaborate health instruction, and family communication and mutual understanding are conducive to alleviating the psychological stress caused by the epidemic, and it is positive for adolescent students to maintain a good mental health.

Effect of Sand Particle Size on Hydraulic-Mechanical Behavior of Bentonite-Sand Mixtures

        Tian-Hao Lu,Wen-Jing Sun,Ke Liu,Yun-Zhi Tan 대한토목학회 2022 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.26 No.8

Bentonite-sand mixtures can be used as the base material of engineered barriers in deep high-level radioactive waste geological repositories. Swelling, compression, and permeability tests were conducted out on bentonite-sand mixtures with 30%, 50%, 70% and 85% sand content. Influence of sand content and particle size on the deformation and permeability characteristics of bentonite-sand mixtures were analyzed. The sand particle size affects the deformation characteristics by influencing the vertical stress required to form a sand skeleton, and the skeleton’s stability. When the sand content is less than the critical sand content, bentonite-sand mixtures cannot form a sand skeleton, and particle size has no effect on their characteristics. When the sand content is greater than the critical sand content and the vertical stress exceeds the initial deviation stress, a sand skeleton forms. In this case, smaller the sand particle size, lesser will be the vertical stress required to form a sand skeleton, and more the swelling of bentonite-sand mixtures. Further, more uniform particle size, more stable will be its structure and lesser the compressibility of bentonite-sand mixtures. The hydraulic conductivity is related to the flow area and the seepage path length, and particle size has no obvious effect on either with the same sand content. Therefore, the sand particle size has no obvious effect on mixtures’ permeability.

NaCl Treatment Improves Reactive Oxygen Metabolism and Antioxidant Capacity in Broccoli Sprouts

        Lu Tian,Xinyue Li,Runqiang Yang,Zhenxin Gu 한국원예학회 2016 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.57 No.6

We investigated membrane lipid peroxidation, reactive oxygen species (ROS) metabolism, antioxidant component content, and antioxidant enzyme activity to understand how NaCl regulates the growth of broccoli sprouts. NaCl treatment significantly increased ROS and malondialdehyde content, and electrolyte permeability in broccoli sprouts. Ascorbic acid and anthocyanin content also increased, simultaneously and significantly. During germination, treatments with 40 mM and 80 mM NaCl significantly promoted broccoli sprouts growth, likely because of ability to enhance antioxidant activity, thus alleviating the effect of stress.

The effect of Glomus intraradices on the physiological properties of Panax ginseng and on rhizospheric microbial diversity

        Tian, Lei,Shi, Shaohua,Ma, Lina,Zhou, Xue,Luo, Shasha,Zhang, Jianfeng,Lu, Baohui,Tian, Chunjie The Korean Society of Ginseng 2019 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.43 No.1

Background: Glomus intraradices is a species of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi that, as an obligate endomycorrhiza, can form mutually beneficial associations with plants. Panax ginseng is a popular traditional Chinese medicine; however, problems associated with ginseng planting, such as pesticide residues, reduce the ginseng quality. Methods: In this experiment, we studied the effect of inoculating G. intraradices on several physiological properties and microbial communities of ginseng. UV-Visible Spectrum method was used to detect physical properties. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis method was used to analyze microbial communities. Results: The results indicated that inoculation with G. intraradices can improve the colonization rate of lateral ginseng roots, increase the levels of monomeric and total ginsenosides, and improve root activity as well as polyphenol oxidase and catalase activities. We also studied the bacterial and fungal communities in ginseng rhizospheric soil. In our study, G. intraradices inoculation improved the abundance and Shannon diversity of bacteria, whereas fungi showed a reciprocal effect. Furthermore, we found that G. intraradices inoculation might increase some beneficial bacterial species and decreased pathogenic fungi in rhizospheric soil of ginseng. Conclusion: Our results showed that G. intraradices can benefit ginseng planting which may have some instructive and practical significance for planting ginseng in farmland.

The Impact of Venture Capital Investment on the Performance of Peer-to-Peer Lending Platforms: Evidence from China

        Tian Lu,Dingwei Gu,Pinliang Luo,Chenghong Zhang 한국증권학회 2019 Asia-Pacific Journal of Financial Studies Vol.48 No.5

The Chinese peer-to-peer (P2P) lending market is expanding quickly but has a relatively poor level of operation. Using panel-structured data from a leading P2P lending portal in China, we investigate the effects of venture capital (VC) investment on the performance of P2P lending platforms. Specifically, we identify a short-term signaling effect and a long-term governance effect of VC investment on platform performance in terms of transaction volume, and numbers of lenders and borrowers. However, we only find a decrease in average interest rates after venture capitalists’ (VCs’) entry in the long run. Moreover, we verify both the effects of investment from listed VCs, but no signaling effect and a weak governance effect of investment from non-listed VCs. Our analysis provides new insights into how VC investment improves the performance of target firms.

홍콩의 잊혀진 공간 : 허안화 <천수위의 낮과 밤>의 일상적 영화예술

        ( Lu Tian ) 부산대학교 영화연구소 2021 아시아영화연구 Vol.14 No.1

This essay is aimed at exploring one of the most prominent female filmmakers, Ann Hui’s cinematics of everyday life in her 2008 film The Way We Are by focusing how spaces are perceived, understood and represented. Hui’s approach to space in the film is characterized by ambivalence: on one hand, the urban space surrounding the characters is unremarkable, repetitive and routinized, in which people live ordinary lives without any dramatic events; on the other hand, such mundane spaces set the stage for affective investment and creative practices, which enable people to resist the dehumanizing forces in the neoliberal metropolis of Hong Kong. The strength of Ann Hui’s cinematics of everyday life lies in its ability to reveal a tactical mobility of the underprivileged in Hong Kong to foster meaningful bonds in everyday space. Hui’s ambivalent approach to space uncovers the unrecognized aspect of the ordinary, the foreignness in the familiar, and the possibility of a surprise emerging from where it is least expected.

      • GOLPH3, a Good Prognostic Indicator in Early-stage NSCLC Related to Tumor Angiogenesis

        Lu, Ming,Tian, Yu,Yue, Wei-Ming,Li, Lin,Li, Shu-Hai,Qi, Lei,Hu, Wen-Si,Gao, Cun,Si, Li-Bo,Tian, Hui Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.14

Background: Golgi phosphoprotein-3 (GOLPH3) is implicated in cancer development and progression. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic significance of GOLPH3 protein and its association with tumor angiogenesis in patients with early-stage NSCLC. Materials and Methods: Immunohistochemistry was performed to determine GOLPH3 protein expression and allow assessment of intratumoral microvessel density (MVD) by counting CD-34 positive immunostained endothelial cells. Correlations of expression with MVD, clinicopathologic features and clinical prognosis were analyzed. Results: A notably higher level of GOLPH3 expression was found in early-stage NSCC tissues at the protein level. However, we do not find any correlation between GOLPH3 expression and clinicopathologic features (p>0.05), although higher MVD was positively associated with GOLPH3 overexpression (p<0.001). Expression of GOLPH3 was found to be an independent prognostic factor in early-stage NSCLC patients, those expressing high levels of GOLPH3 exhibiting a substantially lower 5-year overall survival than GOLPH3-negative patients (adjusted HR =1.899, 95% CI: 1.021-3.532, p=0.043). Conclusions: High expression of the GOLPH3 protein is common in early-stage NSCC, and is closely associated with tumor progression, increased tumor angiogenesis, and poor survival. We conclude a possibility of its use as a diagnostic and prognostic marker in early-stage NSCC patients.

      • Weight Loss Correlates with Macrophage Inhibitory Cytokine-1 Expression and Might Influence Outcome in Patients with Advanced Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Lu, Zhi-Hao,Yang, Li,Yu, Jing-Wei,Lu, Ming,Li, Jian,Zhou, Jun,Wang, Xi-Cheng,Gong, Ji-Fang,Gao, Jing,Zhang, Xiao-Tian,Li, Jie,Li, Yan,Shen, Lin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.15

Background: Weight loss during chemotherapy has not been exclusively investigated. Macrophage inhibitory cytokine-1 (MIC-1) might play a role in its etiology. Here, we investigated the prognostic value of weight loss before chemotherapy and its relationship with MIC-1 concentration and its occurrence during chemotherapy in patients with advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Materials and Methods: We analyzed 157 inoperable locally advanced or metastatic ESCC patients receiving first-line chemotherapy. Serum MIC-1 concentrations were assessed before chemotherapy. Patients were assigned into two groups according to their weight loss before or during chemotherapy:>5% weight loss group and ${\leq}5%$ weight loss group. Results: Patients with weight loss>5% before chemotherapy had shorter progression-free survival period (5.8 months vs. 8.7 months; p=0.027) and overall survival (10.8 months vs. 20.0 months; p=0.010). Patients with weight loss >5% during chemotherapy tended to have shorter progression-free survival (6.0 months vs. 8.1 months; p=0.062) and overall survival (8.6 months vs. 18.0 months; p=0.022), and if weight loss was reversed during chemotherapy, survival rates improved. Furthermore, serum MIC-1 concentration was closely related to weight loss before chemotherapy (p=0.001) Conclusions: Weight loss both before and during chemotherapy predicted poor outcome in advanced ESCC patients, and MIC-1 might be involved in the development of weight loss in such patients.

Dual Effect of Hepatic Macrophages on Liver Ischemia and Reperfusion Injury during Liver Transplantation

        Tian-Fei Lu,Tai-Hua Yang,Cheng-Peng Zhong,Chuan Shen,Wei-Wei Lin,Guang-Xiang Gu,Qiang Xia,Ning Xu 대한면역학회 2018 Immune Network Vol.18 No.3

Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a major complication in liver transplantation (LT) and it is closely related to the recovery of grafts' function. Researches has verified that both innate and adaptive immune system are involved in the development of IRI and Kupffer cell (KC), the resident macrophages in the liver, play a pivotal role both in triggering and sustaining the sterile inflammation. Damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), released by the initial dead cell because of the ischemia insult, firstly activate the KC through pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) such as toll-like receptors. Activated KCs is the dominant players in the IRI as it can secret various pro-inflammatory cytokines to exacerbate the injury and recruit other types of immune cells from the circulation. On the other hand, KCs can also serve in a contrary way to ameliorate IRI by upregulating the anti-inflammatory factors. Moreover, new standpoint has been put forward that KCs and macrophages from the circulation may function in different way to influence the inflammation. Managements towards KCs are expected to be the effective way to improve the IRI.
