Application of advanced biomaterials in photothermal therapy for malignant bone tumors

        Bo Chao,Jianhang Jiao,Lili Yang,Yang Wang,Weibo Jiang,Tong Yu,Linfeng Wang,He Liu,Han Zhang,Zhonghan Wang,Minfei Wu 한국생체재료학회 2023 생체재료학회지 Vol.27 No.00

Malignant bone tumors are characterized by severe disability rate, mortality rate, and heavy recurrence rate owing to the complex pathogenesis and insidious disease progression, which seriously affect the terminal quality of patients' lives. Photothermal therapy (PTT) has emerged as an attractive adjunctive treatment offering prominent hyperthermal therapeutic effects to enhance the effectiveness of surgical treatment and avoid recurrence. Simultaneously, various advanced biomaterials with photothermal capacity are currently created to address malignant bone tumors, performing distinctive biological functions, including nanomaterials, bioceramics (BC), polymers, and hydrogels et al. Furthermore, PTT-related combination therapeutic strategies can provide more significant curative benefits by reducing drug toxicity, improving tumor-killing efficiency, stimulating anti-cancer immunity, and improving immune sensitivity relative to monotherapy, even in complex tumor microenvironments (TME). This review summarizes the current advanced biomaterials applicable in PTT and relevant combination therapies on malignant bone tumors for the first time. The multiple choices of advanced biomaterials, treatment methods, and new prospects for future research in treating malignant bone tumors with PTT are generalized to provide guidance.

Switching Motion Control of Aircraft Skin Inspection Robot Using Backstepping Scheme and Nussbaum Disturbance Observer

        Congqing Wang,Junjun Jiang,Xuewei Wu,Linfeng Wu 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2018 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.16 No.6

In this paper, a backstepping control using switching strategy is proposed for the motion control of the aircraft skin inspection robot with double frame in the presence of external disturbances. The inspection robot equipped with a CCD camera and an ultrasonic sensor can alternately adsorb and move on the aircraft surface. The influence of the external disturbances is obvious in the switching motion. The disturbances are efficiently estimated using a Nussbaum disturbance observer (NDO), and the disturbance observer errors are uniformly ultimately bounded. Then, the backstepping control method is used to design the motion controller. The stability of the closed-loop robot system is proved by Lyapunov analysis through the average dwell time method .The tracking errors and the disturbance observer errors are semi-globally uniformly bounded using the proposed control schemewith NDO,and NDO is compared with Super-twisting disturbance observer. Finally, simulation results illustrate that the proposed control scheme with NDO can achieve satisfactory tracking performance under the external disturbance.

      • Performance optimization of flexible a-Si:H solar cells with nanotextured plasmonic substrate by tuning the thickness of oxide spacer layer

        Xiao, Huapeng,Wang, Jun,Huang, Hongtao,Lu, Linfeng,Lin, Qingfeng,Fan, Zhiyong,Chen, Xiaoyuan,Jeong, Chaehwan,Zhu, Xufei,Li, Dongdong Elsevier 2015 Nano energy Vol.11 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Plasmonic thin film solar cells deposited on periodically textured photonic crystal substrates have been extensively studied since the substantially enhanced light absorption. The reduction of parasitic absorption losses in the metal and spacer layers becomes one of the key issues to achieve high efficiency solar cells. Herein, plasmonic amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) flexible thin film solar cells with different thickness of oxide spacer layers are systematically investigated. An increase of the spacer layer thickness leads to an evolution in surface morphology of AZO and final devices. More intriguingly, the increase of spacer layer thickness reduces the absorption in Ag layer while induces more absorption in spacer layer. The highest light absorption in silicon layer is observed as applying 100nm spacer layer, which is further verified by electrical measurements. Our observations demonstrate a versatile and convenient route towards rational design of light harvesting nanostructure for high performance plasmonic solar cells based on a broad range of materials.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Amorphous silicon thin film solar cells are constructed on patterned substrates. </LI> <LI> The devices properties are studied as a function of spacer layer thickness. </LI> <LI> An increase of spacer layer thickness reduces the absorption loss of Ag layer. </LI> <LI> The device with 100nm spacer layer confines more incident light in silicon layer. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Effect of Temperature and Revolution on the Microstructure, Texture and Microhardness of the AZ80 Alloy Cup Prepared by Rotating Backward Extrusion

        Xin Che,Qiang Wang,Xingwang Duan,Min Wang,Linfeng He,Miao Cao,Shuang Liu,Guanshi Zhang,Zhimin Zhang 대한금속·재료학회 2023 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.29 No.11

Microstructure evolution, phase development and mechanical property of AZ80 alloy cup with various processing temperatures(573 K, 613 K, 653 K) and rotating revolutions (N = 0, 5, 50, 100) during rotating backward extrusion (RBE)were explored. The study founded that reducing deformation temperature or increasing revolution could promote the grainrefinement and DRX proportion. And the sample deformed at the condition of 573 K and N = 100 exhibited the best grainrefinement effect (grain size was 2.5 μm, DRX ratio was up to 99.01%). The bulk eutectic phase existed at all deformationtemperatures, while the dynamic precipitation was only precipitated at temperature of 573 K and 613 K. Increasing thedeformation temperature or revolution could reduce the proportion of the second phase. And an increase in revolution or areduction of temperature would reduce the average size of second phase, due to the phase could be broken by large strainand resolved with elevated temperature. Moreover, increasing the revolution and deformation temperature could promotethe texture weakening, which would be contributed to the occurrence of new recrystallization grains with random orientationand the activation of non-basal slip system. The mechanical property of microhardness was significantly improved withrotating revolution increasing and deformation temperature decreasing. Supported by the grain refinement and dispersionstrengthening, the sample deformed at condition of 573 K and N = 100 achieved maximum hardness values of 96.3 HV.

PtPd/molecular sieve as dual-functional monolithic adsorbent/catalyst for effective removal of trace toluene at low-temperature and their electric-heating performance

        Shuangde Li,Tao Wang,Mu Zhou,Shaohua Chai,Linfeng Nie,Zhenjiang Wu,Ning Han,Yunfa Chen 한국공업화학회 2022 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.114 No.-

A dual-functional adsorption–catalytic system for elimination of trace toluene is developed and realizedover molecular sieve-hosted varied ratio of platinum and palladium catalysts. PtPd/molecular sieveexhibites PdO and PtO2 around 2–3 nm particles with uniform loading verified by XRD, TEM, Ramanand XPS. The adsorption–desorption–catalysis for trace toluene purification is evaluated on the quartzmicro-reactor and the self-made electrically heated equipment. 3Pt1Pd/molecular sieve shows tolueneadsorption capacity of 18.22 mg/g and desorption efficiency about 77%, together with the maximum desorptiontemperature at 100 C. 3Pt1Pd/molecular sieve owns toluene conversion with 38.3% and 100% at100 and 200 C, accompanied with the higher CO2 selectivity of 0.0% and 150.0%, separately, due to thehigher Pd2+ content. The catalyst displays water vapor endurance, reproducibility, and 83.0% carbon balanceduring the whole adsorption–desorption–catalysis within 150 min, which highlights the sustainableapplicability in lean VOCs abatement. Furthermore, the possible catalytic reaction pathway of tolueneoxidation is proposed based on the in-situ DRIFTS experiments.

RESEARCH ON LOCAL DISTURBANCE COOPERATIVE CONTROL OF HETEROGENEOUS VEHICLE PLATOON BASED ON SITUATION ASSESSMENT

        Tingfang Zhang,Qidong Wang,Linfeng Zhao,Wuwei Chen,Bixin Cai,Mingyue Yan 한국자동차공학회 2024 International journal of automotive technology Vol.25 No.2

In the longitudinal driving of a heterogeneous platoon, external disturbances of local vehicles can cause safety problemsof the intended functionality. Therefore, a cooperative control method based on situation assessment is proposed. First, theminimum safe distance is determined according to the state of adjacent vehicles. A novel situation assessment model isestablished to characterize the stability of the platoon. Vehicle spacing, speed, and acceleration are selected as evaluationindicators. Then, an improved active disturbance rejection controller (IADRC) is designed to improve platoon stabilitythrough feedback compensation control. In addition, considering the unnecessary continuous involvement of the IADRC,its intervention time is determined by the situation assessment results. Finally, simulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL)experiments are carried out under two communication topologies. The results show that the proposed method can eff ectivelyimprove the stability and safety of the platoon.

Sudden Slide Mechanism of a Rock Block in Road Cutting Slope with Soft and Hard Interlayered Bedding Structure Based on Energy Balance Theory

        Fuchuan Zhou,Hongmei Tang,Linfeng Wang,Ning Yan 대한토목학회 2022 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.26 No.10

After the road excavation of the hard and soft interlayered bedding slope in the mountainous region's valley area, the bedding slope often results in a catastrophic phenomenon, especially in the project's construction and operation where existed severe safety hazards. A geo-mechanical two-component model consisting of the slider and the underlying layer is proposed to analyze the rock block instability under the fissure water pressure, the shear deformation, and the compression deformation. The slider's complex stress field is derived by using elastic mechanics. The incremental energy equilibrium Equation is established based on the energy balance theory, and the generalized sliding force relative function of the slider and the generalized shear force relative function of the underlying soft rock are obtained. The deformation energy accumulation, transfer, and energy dissipation characteristics are analyzed. Put a rock slide in the bedding rock cutting slope happened at Jiaojiatan, Pengshui County, Chongqing municipality, China as a case. Results indicate that considering both the compression deformation and the shear deformation of the slider, the kinetic energy, the rapid launch speed of the projectile, the average projectile acceleration, and the failure stroke increase about 15.7 times, 4.0 times, 1.8 times, and 8.9 times respectively than that of only considering the shear deformation, and the dynamic disaster intensity is more severe and worthy of attention. The results that ignored the fissure water pressure and the compressive deformation energy coincide with the existing literature, which verifies the reasonable applied method in this paper. Considering the slider's different displacements and the height-length ratios, when the energy ratio function that represents the ratio of the incremental compression energy to the incremental shear energy concludes that when the range of the height-length ratio is between 0 to 0.95(flat and narrow sliders), the compression energy's contribution to the system’s elastic energy should be taken into consideration. The advantage of the energy balance method applied in the stability analysis of the bedding rock slope is that the potential unstable rock block's status can be predicted dynamically according to the variation of the underlying soft rock's deformation and that the elastic impact dynamic parameters can also be obtained compared with other instability analysis approach.

Enhancement of attraction to sex pheromone of Grapholita molesta (Busck) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) by structurally unrelated sex pheromone compounds of Conogethes punctiferalis (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae)

        Deng Jianyu,Shen Zhijie,Wang Fumin,Liu Tao,Hong Wenying,Fang Minghua,Wo Linfeng,Chu Sijie 한국응용곤충학회 2022 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.25 No.1

Grapholita molesta (Busck) (the oriental fruit moth; OFM) and Conogethes punctiferalis (Guenée) are both fruit and stem borers with overlapping habitats, occurrences, and outbreak cycles. These two species are in different families and they have completely different sex pheromone components. Here, the effects of the sex pheromone components of C. punctiferalis, (E)-10-hexadecenal (E10-16:Ald) and (Z)-10-hexadecenal (Z10-16:Ald) and their mixture, were evaluated on the sexual communication of OFM by examining electrophysiological (EAG) and behavioral responses. We found that a considerably large amount of E10-16:Ald or Z10-16:Ald and a tiny amount of OFM pheromone elicited comparable EAG responses in OFM males, indicating the low antennal olfactory sensitivity of OFM males to the heterospecific pheromone compounds. In two different peach orchard parcels, captures of OFM by their pheromone lures baited in delta traps were increased by at least 1.5 times when OFM pheromone lures were combined with lures that contained 1000 μg of either E10-16:Ald, Z10-16:Ald or their mixture. In two other pear orchard parcels, both E10-16:Ald and Z10-16:Ald increased captures of OFM in Unitraps in a dose-dependent manner with more than a four-fold increase. Therefore, the enhanced attractiveness of OFM lures by the two interspecific pheromones suggests their potential application to improve mass trapping, population monitoring and mating disruption of OFM.

Glutathione disulfide sensitizes hepatocytes to TNFα-mediated cytotoxicity via IKK-β S-glutathionylation: a potential mechanism underlying non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

        Xiaobing Dou,Songtao Li,Linfeng Hu,Lei Ding,Yue Ma,Wang Ma,Hui Chai,Zhenyuan Song 생화학분자생물학회 2018 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.50 No.-

Oxidative stress and TNFα are critically involved in the initiation and progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). In this study, we investigated the effects of dysregulated glutathione homeostasis, a principal feature of oxidative stress, on TNFα-induced hepatotoxicity and its mechanistic implications in NAFLD progression. We showed that mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD) for 12 weeks developed hepatic steatosis and liver injuries, which were associated with not only TNFα overproduction but also hepatic glutathione dysregulation, characterized by GSH reduction and GSSG elevation. Moreover, consuming a HFD increased protein S-glutathionylation (protein-SSG formation) in the liver. Subsequent cell culture studies revealed that GSSG accumulation, as opposed to GSH reduction, sensitized hepatocytes to TNFα killing by reducing the TNFα-triggered NF-κB activity. GSSG prevented TNFα-induced activation of IKK-β, an upstream kinase in the NF-κB signaling pathway, by inducing IKK-β glutathionylation (IKK-β-SSG formation). In animal studies, in comparison to a control diet, HFD consumption resulted in increased hepatic IKK-β- SSG formation, leading to suppressed IKK-β activation and subsequent NF-κB suppression. Furthermore, we found that HFD consumption also led to decreased hepatic expression of glutaredoxin, a key enzyme for de-glutathionylation. Similarly, CdCl2, a chemical inhibitor of glutaredoxin, sensitized hepatocytes to TNFα-mediated cytotoxicity. In conclusion, our data suggest that GSSG is a potent and clinically relevant sensitizer for TNFα-induced hepatotoxicity in NAFLD, which represents a potential therapeutic target for NAFLD.
