<P>In this paper, the volume trap densities <I>Nt</I> are extracted from gate-all-around silicone-nanowire FETs with different gate oxides, using a cylindrical-coordinate-based flicker noise model developed. For extracting <I>Nt</I>, the drain-current power spectral densities were measured from a large number of identical devices and averaged over, thereby mimicking the spatial distribution of trap sites inducing 1/<I>f</I> curve. Also, effective mobility and threshold voltage were simultaneously extracted with the series resistance to characterize the 1/<I>f</I> noise in terms of intrinsic values of these two channel parameters. The volume trap densities thus extracted from different oxides (in situ steam-generated oxide/rapid thermal oxide/nitride-gated oxide) are compared and further examined using hot-carrier stress data. Finally, radius dependence of the cylindrical 1/<I>f</I> model developed is discussed.</P>

The term enterolith refers to concretions formed within the gastrointestinal tract. Enteroliths are thought to result from stasis and are usually found proximal to an area of stricture or within diverticulum. Meckel's diverticulum occurs in 1% to 3% of the population at autopsy and is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract. Common complications of Meckel's diverticulum include hemorrhage, infection, inflammation, and intussusception. However, enterolith formation in a Meckel's diverticulum, which referred to as Meckel's enterolith, is rare. A 58-year-old female who experienced constipation and low abdominal pain for 20 years, was admitted due to severe low abdominal pain for 3 days. A 3 2 cm sized, lozenge-shaped radiopaque stone with peripheral dense calcification and radiolucent center, located between two areas of stricture in the distal ileum, was observed in abdominal radiograph, abdominal sonogram, small bowel study, and CT scan. Pathologic findings after surgery reveal an enterolith in Meckel's diverticulum without ectopic gastric mucosa. The case of Meckel's enterolith is herein reported.

Hydrogen peroxide has been used for various medical purposes and also recommended in the disinfection process for endoscopes. However, hydrogen peroxide as a cause of chemical colitis or disinfectant colitis has been infrequently reported. The endoscopic findings of hydrogen peroxide induced colitis revealed pseudomembranous-like enteritis such as white plaques, erythema, foamy liquid, patchy, granularity, and ulcerations, resulting from effervescence caused by the release of oxygen from the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide. A 36 year-old single male, who had 30 ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide inserted into his anus the day before due to sexual reasons, was hospitalized as a result of suffering from hematochezia, tenesmus, and lower abdominal pain. Colonoscopy revealed discrete or confluent white plaques adherent to the colonic mucosa, severe erythema on the surrounding mucosa, patchy granularity, and scattered ulcerations up to 28 cm from the anal verge. Pathologic finding revealed inflammatory cells infiltration, variable sized vacuoles, vascular congestion, hemorrhage, fibrin deposition and ulcerations with regenerating epithelium in the lamina propria, consistent with acute mucosal injury caused by hydrogen peroxide. A case of hydrogen peroxide induced colitis is herein reported.

<P>The signaling pathway of insulin/insulin-like growth factor/phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase/Akt/forkhead transcription factors is known to control life span and senescence in organisms ranging from yeast to mice. The FOXO family of forkhead transcription factors, FOXO1, FOXO3a, and FOXO4, play a critical role in this signal transduction pathway. However, the impact of FOXO3a activation on life span of primary cultured human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs) is unknown. To investigate the role of FOXO3a in the regulation of cellular senescence, we prepared FOXO3a-siRNA stable HDFs. We found that the down-regulation of FOXO3a RNA and protein in HDFs induced many senescent phenotypes, including changes in cell morphology, increases in population doubling times, senescence-associated beta-galactosidase staining and the cellular reactive oxygen species, and up-regulation of p53/p21 protein expression. Our data provide evidence of the key role of FOXO3a transcription factor as a mediator of cellular senescence in HDFs, and suggest that the mechanism of senescence is conserved in HDFs.</P>
Optimal Design of a QZS Isolator Using Flexures for a Wide Range of Payload
Kim, Kyoung-Rock,You, Yo-Han,Ahn, Hyeong-Joon Korean Society for Precision Engineering 2013 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.14 No.6
This paper presents an optimal design of QZS (Quasi-zero stiffness) isolator using flexures for wide range of payload. The QZS isolators have both appreciable static stiffness for gravity compensation and very small (theoretically zero) dynamic stiffness for vibration isolation. Since the stronger vertical spring brings out more gravity compensation within a given stroke of the gravity compensation, the QZS isolator need to have strong vertical stiffness to support wide range of payload. First, the dynamic model of QZS isolator using flexures is illustrated based on the previous non-dimensional analysis of flexure. Then, some design considerations for flexure are discussed and optimal design problem of the QZS isolator is formulated mathematically to maximize the stiffness of the vertical spring. As a result, optimal shape ratio of flexure to maximize stiffness of the vertical spring can be determined. Finally, the design procedure for flexure of the QZS isolator is summarized and illustrated with a design example.

This paper presents a control model of a quasi zero stiffness isolator using flexures. The isolator has the QZS characteristic acquired by combination of a negative stiffness of the flexure with compressive force and a positive stiffness of a vertical spring. First, non-dimensional exact model of the flexure or a key element of the QZS isolator is derived and the exact model of the flexure is simplified into an approximate model using Taylor series expansion, which is verrified with FE analysis. Based on the approximate model of flexure, a nonlinear dynamic model of the QZS isolator is constructed and its non-linear vibration characteristics are verified with simulations. Sensitivity analysis of dynamic characteristic of the QZS isolator according to design parameters is performed and an engineering model of the isolator for active control using compression force is derived. The shape of flexure has significant effect on the dynamics characteristic and control of the isolator.

Jang Young Rock,Lee Minji,Shin Hwachul,Kim Jin-Won,Choi Myung-min,Kim Young Mi,Lee Min Ji,Kim Jinsil,Na Hye Kyoung,Kim Jin Yong 대한의학회 2022 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.37 No.27
A rapid outbreak of monkeypox is ongoing in non-endemic countries since May 2022. We report the first case of monkeypox in the Republic of Korea. This occurred in a 34-year-old male patient who traveled to Europe in June 2022. On the day of his return to the Republic of Korea (June 21, 2022), the patient presented with a genital lesion. The results of the monkeypox real-time polymerase chain reaction tests were positive in the penile ulcer, oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal specimens. The patient subsequently developed fever and skin rash after hospital admission. Careful history taking along physical examination should be conducted in the patients who have epidemiologic risk factors for monkeypox. Moreover, appropriate specimens should be obtained from lesions and tested for the monkeypox virus.
