        A New Sesame Variety, “Kangbaek” with Disease Resistance, Lodging Tolerence and High Yield

        A new sesame variety Kangbaek was developed from Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute in 2004. Cros wasmade by lodging resistant SP9003-3 line to the F1with high yielding capacity, folowed by pedigree selection, yield test and RYT by the sesame breeding team at the National Insti-tute of Crop Science up to 2003. The variety showed higher disease resistance, especially phytophothra disease, and lodging resis-respectively. It's 1000 grains weight was about 2.54 g indicating 0.03 g heavier than that of Yangbaekkae, and it's oil content wasabout 52%. Kangbaek also contained total 7.65mg/g of such lignans as sesamin and sesamolin. The average yield of Kang-baek was 82 kg per 10a at the national-wide regional performance.

        <P>On page 5433, Yong‐Young Noh, Antonio Facchetti, Kang‐Jun Baeg, and co‐workers report that high performance ambipolar complementary inverters and ring oscillators are provided by a remarkable enhancement of both hole injection and transport for n‐channel dominant N2200 OFETs. The significant enhancement of hole mobility in N2200 OTFTs is attributed to the strong dipoles in fluorinated high‐k gate dielectric blend of P(VDF‐TrFE):PMMA. </P>

        Uncertainty of the elastic buckling formula of a thin tube is considered. The measuring uncertainty of Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio and the tolerance of the tube thickness and diameter are dealt with. The elastic buckling should be absolutely prohibited for a thin tube like a nuclear fuel rod that should satisfy a self-stand criterion. Since the predicted critical buckling pressure overestimated the actual one observed from an experiment, determination of the minimum safety factor is crucial. The uncertainty of each parameter (i.e., Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio, thickness and diameter) is mutually independent, so the safety factor is evaluated as the sum of the inverse of each uncertainty. It is found that the thickness variation strongly affects the uncertainty. The minimum safety factor of a thin tube of Zirconium alloy needs to be from 1.547 to 3.487 for the thickness of 0.87 and 0.254 ㎜, respectively.

        지르코늄 합금 관의 임계좌굴 압력 산정을 위한 최소안전율

        얇은 관 탄성좌굴 공식의 불확실성을 고려하기 위해, 공식을 구성하는 파라미터인 튜브재료의 탄성계수, 푸아송 비, 튜브 두께 및 지름의 불확실성을 분석하였다. 본 연구는 원자로에서 연소되는 핵연료봉과 같이 사용 중 함몰을 엄격히 방지하고 있는 얇은 관의 설계신뢰도를 향상시키는 데에 중요하다. 분석 방법은 각각의 파라미터가 변화할 수 있는 범위를 충분히 포함할 수 있는 최소의 탄성좌굴 안전율을 구하고 이를 선형적으로 합하여 최종의 최소안전율을 구하였다. 최소 안전율에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 파라미터는 관의 두께로 나타났다. 두께가 얇을수록 더 큰 최소안전율이 필요하며 예로 적용한 지르코늄 합금관의 경우, 두께가 0.254 와 0.87 ㎜ 일 때 최소안전율은 각각 1.547 과 3.487 로 나타났다. We consider the uncertainty in the elastic buckling formula for a thin tube.       • Protein Methylase Ⅱ 活性 및 그 酵素力學에 미치는 金屬이온의 影響

        Effects of metal ions on the kinetic properties of protein methylase II from various tissues were investigated. 1. Copper ion(Cu^2+) and zinc ion(Zn^2+) were potent inhibitors, the activity of the enzymes from heart, liver, brain and placenta being completely inhibited at 2 mM. The other ions did not almostly affect the activity of the enzyme. 2. The inhibition of copper and zinc ions were recovered 58%, 62% of the enzyme activities of heart and 68%, 67% of its activities of placenta by EDTA, respectively. And the inhibition of zinc ion was almostly recovered by adding histone after zinc ion and EDTA preincubation. 3. The inhibition of copper ion was completely recovered by adding of 10 mM of mercaptoetharnol, but zinc ion did not almost affect. 4. The inhibition of zinc ion was completely recovered by adding 50 mM of phosphate, but copper ion did not almost affect. 5. The apparent Km values for S-adenosyl-L-methionine were 4x10^-6 M in heart and 2x10^-6M in placenta. The kinetic analysis of the enzymes from heart and placenta in the presence of 50 uM of copper ion showed that the nature of the inhibition was noncomptitive, considering that Km was constant and Vmax was decreased, and 50 uM zinc ion showed that it was uncompetitive, considering that both Km and Vmax were decreased. These results suggest that the inhibitions of protein methylase II by copper and zinc ion are related to the other mechanisms, respectively.

      • 관상동맥질환 환자에서 스텐트 시술 후 재협착에 관한 연구

        Background and aims : In the coronary artery disease, a rate of restenosis was much decreased by placement of coronary stent than when percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty has been applied, but there are still important clinical problems of restenosis. There has been many progressive studies about various factors contributed to this restenosis. So, we studied a relation between restenosis after placement of coronary stent in the coronary artery disease and many clinical factors, characteristics of stenotic lesion and procedural factors, and also assessed the restenosis rate of various coronary stents. Methods : Total 58 lesions(46 cases of patients ; man 30, woman 16) were evaluated, which has been performed a follow-up coronary angiography after 6 months (mean 188 days) since coronary stent had been placed. Various stents were implanted and assessed a relation between restenosis and many factors. Results : Of 58 lesions were target stenotic studies, there were 22 of restenotic lesions(37.9%), and the restenosis rate wes statistically significant difference in the relation with diabetes mellitus(p<0.05), group of acute myocardial infarction(p<0.05) among clinical diagnosis of ischemic heart disease(stable angina, unstable angina and acute myocardial infarction) in clinical factors and with high dilation pressure of stent(p<0.05) in procedural factors. When the rate of restenosis was evaluated among implanted stents, it was lowest in the Multilink^(®) stent and highest in the Nir Royal^(®) stent(60%). Conclusion : In this study of restenosis and various factors after placement of stents in the coronary artety disease, factors such as diabetes mellitus, group of acute myocardial infarction and a dilation pressure of stent were significant related with restenosis and the restenosis rate of Multilink^(®) stent was lowest and the highest restenosis rate was of Nir Royal^(®) stent.

      • 갑상선 유두상 암종과 유두상 증식에 대한 S-100 단백 및 EMA 발현에 대한 연구

        The diagnosis of papillary carcinoma of the thyroid is readily achieved based on a defined aggregate of histopathologic features. A papillary architecture is an imporant but not pivotal component of the diagnosis. The classic nuclear features are the essential diagnostic element. However, both papillary architecture and nuclear features may be encountered in other conditions and produce problems in histopahologic interpretation. A papillary architecture may be found within a follicular or an oncocytic neoplasm of within the nodules of hyperplastic nodular goiter. Moreover, there may be scattered cells within several thyroid lesions that display some of the nuclear characteristics of papillary carcinoma. The distinction of these lesions from papillary carcinoma is important for differential diagnosis. Thus, the availability of supportive diagnosic evidence would be helpful. Immunoreactivity for S-100 and epithelial membrace antigen was investigated in 16 papillary thyroid carcinomas(PTC), including three examples of the follicular variant, 16 cases of papillary hyperplasis, 8 follicular adenomas, and 6 follicular carcinomas. The degree of reaction was rated on a four point scale: +++, most cells(>51%) have positive staining; ++, 11-50% of cells have positive staining; +, less than 10% of cells have positive staining; -, no positive staining is present. The results are summarized as follows: 1) All the papillary carcinomas showed intense nuclear and cytoplasmic expression of S-100 (+++; 7 cases, ++; 9 cases), and EMA was expressed(++; 7 cases, ++; 6 cases, +; 3 cases). 2) In the cases of papillary hperplasia, papillary foci were generally negative for S-100 and EMA(12/16 ; -). In some areas, they were focal, of weak intensity, and showed preferential apical cytoplasmic location of oncocytic change. 3) Four of eight follicular adenomas expressed S-100(++;2 cases, +; 2 cases), whereas four were completely negative. EMA was also expressed(++; 2 cases, +; 3 cases). 4) Follicular carcinoma showed variable expression of S100 and EMA Five of six follicular carcinomas expressed S-100(++; 2 cases, +; 3 cases), whereas one was negative. EMA was also expressed(++; 2 cases, +; 1 case). In conclusion, in the distinction of papilary carcinoma from papillary hyperplasia, we would recommend an initial histological appraisal, with immunohistochemical staining of S100 and EMA in difficult cases.

        Antegonial notch depth 에 따른 하악골 성장에 관한 두부방사선 계측학적 연구

        The purpose of the present study were to disclose whether the depth of the mandibular antegonial notch can be used as an indicator of mandibular growth potential. The patients composed of 76 samples and were classified following 3 groups, based on the depth of mandibular antegonial notch : Deep notch group (more than 3mm), Neutral notch group (1-3mm), Shallow notch group (less than 1mm) For each case, the first lateral cephalograms were taken prior to the start of treatment and the second films 3-4 years after. The results were as follows; 1. Deep notch group had a shorter corpus, less ramus height and greater gonial angle than did Shallow notch group. 2. Deep notch group had a more retrusive mandibular position than Shallow notch group. 3. Deep notch group had longer total anterior facial height and longer anterior lower facial height group. 4.Deep notch group grow vertical clockwise growth pattern, while Shallow notch group grow horizontal counterclockwise growth pattern. 5. Deep notch group had less mandibular growth than Shallow notch group during observation period.

        III급 부정교합 어린이의 수완부 골성숙과 하악 3대구치 발육에 대한 연구

        본 연구는 I급 부정교합과 III급 부정교합 어린이의 수완부 골성숙 단계와 하악 제3대구치 발육을 비교 · 평가하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 전남대학교병원 소아치과에 내원한 환자들로 8세부터 15세 사이의 Angle I급 부정교합을 지난 남자 149명,여자 155명 그리고 Angle III급 부정교합을 지닌 남자 153명,여자 155명,총 612명을 대상으로 하였으며 골성숙 단계 평가를 위해 수완부 사진을 이용한 Fishman의 방법을 사용하였고 하악 제3대구치의 발육 단계를 평가하기 위해 Orthopantomogram을 이용한 Gat 등의 New Six-Developmental-Stage 방법으로 판독하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 골성숙 단계는 I급 부정교합과 III급 부정교합군 모두 전반적으로 여자가 남자보다 빠르나(p<O.05) 하악 제3대구치의 석회화 단계는 성별 차이가 없었다. 2. 남녀별 골성숙 단계와 하악 제3대구치의 석회화 단계는 I급과 III급 부정교합군 간에서 유의한 차이가 없었다. 3. I급 부정교합과 III급 부정교합군의 수완부 골성숙 단계와 하악 제3대구치 석회화 단계 사이의 상관관계는 두 군 모두 높은 상관성을 보였다(p<O.O1). 4. I급 부정교합과 III급 부정교합군의 하악 제3대구치 석회화 단계와 연령사이의 상관관계는 두 군 모두 높은 상관성을 보였다(p<O.O1). 이상의 결과로 수완부 골성숙도와 하악 제3대구치 발육은 I급 부정교합과 III급 부정교합군 간에 차이가 없었다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of the skeletal maturity of hand-wrist and the development of mandibular third molar in subjects with class I and class III malocclusion. The subjects used in this study were 304 children(149 boys, 155 girls) with class I malocclusions and 308 children(153 boys, 155 girls) with class III malocclusions, ranged from 8 to 15 years of age. Hand-wrist radiographs and panoramic radiographs were used to evaluate the stage of skeletal maturity and teeth development. Fishman s method for the skeletal maturity stages of the hand-wrist and new six-developmental-stage method for the calcification stages of mandibular third molars were analyzed. The results were as follows: 1. In subjects with class I and class III malocclusion, skeletal maturity of the hand-wrist occured earlier in females than in ma1es(p<0.05), while the calcification stages of mandibular third molars were no significant gender differences. 2. There were no significant differences between the groups, when comparing the skeletal maturity stages of the hand-wrist and the calcification stages of mandibular third molars between subjects with the class I and the class III malocclusion. 3. The correlation coefficients between the calcification stages of mandibular third molars and the skeletal maturity stages of the hand-wrist in subjects with class I and class III malocclusion showed a high interrelationship(p<0.01). 4. The correlation coefficients between the calcification stages of mandibular third molars and chronological age in subjects with class I and class III malocclusion showed a high interrelationship (p<0.01). As a result, there were no significant differences between class I and class III malocclusion group for skeletal maturity of the hand-wrist and third molar development.
