Objectives : In the current study, we performed the 13-week repeated oral dose toxicity test and a 4-week recovery test of standardized Cornus officinalis Sieb. et Zucc. and Psoralea corylifolia L. 30 % ethanol extract (SCP) in Sprague- Dawley (SD) rats owing to aims for verifying no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL). Methods : The animal study was performed according to OECD guidelines for the testing of chemicals section 4 health effects test No.408 repeated dose 90-day oral toxicity study in rodents (03 October 2008). In the repeated dose toxicity study, SCP was orally administered to female and male rats at dose levels of 1,000, 2,000, and 4,000 mg/kg/day for 13-week. The control group and high dose (4,000 mg/kg/day) group were then monitored for 4 extra weeks to determine recovery time after the study period. 1) Results : Compared with the control group, there were no treatment-related adverse effects in clinical signs, body weight, hematology, serum biochemistry (Aspartate aminotransferase, Alanine aminotransferase, Alkaline phosphatase, γ-Glutamyl transpeptidase, Blood urea nitrogen, Creatinine, Glucose, Total cholesterol, Total protein, Creatine phosphokinase, Albumin, Total bilirubin, Triglyceride, Inorganic phosphorus, Albumin/Globulin ratio, Calcium ion, Sodium ion, Potassium ion, Chloride ion), necropsy findings and organ weight (Ovary, Adrenal gland, Pituitary, Thymus, Prostate, Testis, Epididymis, Spleen, Kidney, Heart, Lung, Brain, Liver) at any dose tested. Conclusions : Taken together, these results suggest that the NOAEL of SCP in both genders was considered as over 4,000 mg/kg. Results from this study provide scientific evidence for the safety of SCP.
Probiotic Mixture KF Attenuates Age-Dependent Memory Deficit and Lipidemia in Fischer 344 Rats

To investigate the memory-enhancing effect of lactic acid bacteria, we selected the probiotic mixture KF, which consisted of Lactobacillus plantarum KY1032 and Lactobacillus curvatus HY7601 (1 × 1011 CFU/g of each strain), and investigated its antilipidemic and memoryenhancing effects in aged Fischer 344 rats. KF (1 × 1010 CFU/rat/day), which was administered orally once a day (6 days per week) for 8 weeks, significantly inhibited age-dependent increases of blood triglyceride and reductions of HDL cholesterol (p < 0.05). KF restored agereduced spontaneous alternation in the Y-maze task to 94.4% of that seen in young rats (p < 0.05). KF treatment slightly, but not significantly, shortened the escape latency daily for 4 days. Oral administration of KF restored age-suppressed doublecortin and brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression in aged rats. Orally administered KF suppressed the expression of p16, p53, and cyclooxygenase-2, the phosphorylation of Akt and mTOR, and the activation of NF-κB in the hippocampus of the brain. These findings suggest that KF may ameliorate age-dependent memory deficit and lipidemia by inhibiting NF-κB activation.
Risk factors associated with repeated epidural blood patches using autologous blood

Background: An epidural blood patch (EBP) is a procedure to treat intracranial hypotension that does not respond to conservative treatment. EBPs are commonly repeated when the symptoms persist. In this study, we used a large single-center retrospective cohort and evaluated the factors associated with repeated EBPs. Methods: From January 2010 to December 2020, a total of 596 patients were treated with EBPs for intracranial hypotension. We evaluated the factors associated with repeated EBPs in the entire population, in patients with spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH), and in those with available myelographies. Results: In a total of 596 patients, 125 (21.1%) patients required repeated EBPs, and 96/278 (34.5%) in SIH and 29/314 (9.2%) in iatrogenic population. In patients with SIH, international normalized ratio (INR) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage on myelographies consistently exhibited significant associations (odds ratio [OR], 1.38; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.02-1.87; P = 0.043 and OR, 2.18; 95% CI, 1.28-3.69; P = 0.004). In patients with iatrogenic injury, INR and CSF leakage on myelogram did not show difference in repeated EBPs. Conclusions: Repeated EBPs may be more frequently required in patients with SIH. Prolonged INR and CSF leakage were associated with repeated EBPs in patient with SIH. Further studies are needed to determine factors associated with repeated EBP requirements.

<P><B>WHAT IS ALREADY KNOWN ABOUT THIS SUBJECT</B></P><P>• Aqueous free propofol in lipid emulsion elicits pain.</P><P>• No data on the incidence and severity of injection pain for Aquafol™ (Daewon Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd, Seoul, Korea), a lipid-free microemulsion propofol, are available.</P><P>• Two hypotheses involving plasma bradykinin generation have been proposed to explain propofol-induced pain; one implicates aqueous free propofol, the other implicates the lipid solvent.</P><P><B>WHAT THIS STUDY ADDS</B></P><P>• Microemulsion propofol produces more frequent and severe pain on injection, an effect that may be attributable to the high concentration of aqueous free propofol.</P><P>• There was no evidence that plasma bradykinin generation caused propofol-induced pain.</P><P>• In addition, agents known to prevent propofol-induced pain did not decrease aqueous free propofol concentrations.</P><P>AIMS</P><P>To evaluate the incidence and severity of injection pain caused by microemulsion propofol and lipid emulsion propofol in relation to plasma bradykinin generation and aqueous free propofol concentrations.</P><P>METHODS</P><P>Injection pain was evaluated in 147 patients. Aqueous free propofol concentrations in each formulation, and in formulation mixtures containing agents that reduce propofol-induced pain, were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography. Plasma bradykinin concentrations in both formulations and in their components mixed with blood sampled from six volunteers were measured by radioimmunoassays. Injection pain caused by 8% polyethylene glycol 660 hydroxystearate (PEG660 HS) was evaluated in another 10 volunteers.</P><P>RESULTS</P><P>The incidence of injection pain [visual analogue scale (VAS) >30 mm] caused by microemulsion and lipid emulsion propofol was 69.7 and 42.3% (<I>P</I> < 0.001), respectively. The median VAS scores for microemulsion and lipid emulsion propofol were 59 and 24 mm, respectively (95% confidence interval for the difference 12.5, 40.0). The aqueous free propofol concentration of microemulsion propofol was seven times higher than that of lipid emulsion propofol. Agents that reduce injection pain did not affect aqueous free propofol concentrations. Microemulsion propofol and 8% PEG660 HS enhanced plasma bradykinin generation, whereas lipid emulsion propofol and lipid solvent did not. PEG660 HS did not cause injection pain.</P><P>CONCLUSIONS</P><P>Higher aqueous free propofol concentrations of microemulsion propofol produce more frequent and severe pain. The plasma kallikrein–kinin system may not be involved, and the agents that reduce injection pain may not act by decreasing aqueous free propofol concentrations.</P>
조기 경보를 위한 화재 판단 알고리즘을 이용한 무선 센서네트워크 기반 화재 감시 응용 시스템 설계 및 구현

최근 문화재나 시설물 관리를 위한 화재 감시 응용 시스템에 대한 요구가 증대되고 있다. 이러한 화재 감시 시스템은 화재 상황을 대처할 수 있도록 지원함으로써 피해규모를 축소시킬 수 있다. 그러나 기존 시스템은 일정 주기로 화재 감시를 수행함으로써 화재 판단을 지연시키는 단점이 존재한다. 또한 감시 상황을 확인 할 수 있는 사용자 인터페이스를 제공하지 않는다. 따라서 이러한 두 가지 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 첫째, 조기 위험상황 경보를 위해 새로운 화재 판단 알고리즘(Early Fire Detection Algorithm)을 제안한다. 이는 데이터 분포를 기반으로 하여 화재 판단 시작 주기를 동적으로 설정하기 때문에, 화재 판단 시간 측면에서 기존 알고리즘 보다 우수하다. 둘째, 제안하는 화재 판단 알고리즘을 통하여 사용자 인터페이스를 제공하는 화재 감시 응용 시스템을 개발한다. 마지막으로 성능 실험을 통해, 개발된 시스템이 다양한 화재 상황에서 조기 위험상황 경보를 위해 활용될 수 있음을 보인다. Recently, fire monitoring application systems have been an active research area due to the safety of industries, historical monuments and so on. The fire monitoring application systems can reduce the damage of properties by providing earlier warning for possible fire situation. However, the existing systems have a drawback that they detect fire with delay due to their uniform epoch in fire detection algorithm. Moreover, they do not provide user-friendly graphical user interfaces in their fire monitoring systems. To resolve the problems, First, we propose a new fire detection algorithm (Early Fire Detection Fire Algorithm) which uses the distribution of sensing data for early fire detection. Our fire detection algorithm is better in terms of fire detection time than the existing work because it can set a start time of fire detection epoch dynamically based on data distribution. Second, we develop a fire monitoring application system which provides users with both a user-friendly graphical user interface and a fire alarm message when fire occurs. Finally, we show from our experiment that our developed system is effectively used for early fire warning in a variety of fire situations.

고속도로 주요 구조물은 정확한 안전등급 산정과 최적 상태유지를 위하여 1∼3년 주기로 정밀점검을 시행하고 있다. 공용중인 고속도로 구조물의 정밀점검을 위하여는 교통차단 후 교량점검차 및 고소작업차 등을 활용한 고교각 및 터널 천단부점검이 필요하고 이에 따른 교통정체 유발과 점검원의 추락 등 안전사고 위험 등의 문제점이 상존하고 있다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 한국도로공사에서는 ‘18년부터 첨단 점검장비 8종을 개발·도입하고 있으며,’21년에는 디지털 시범지사를 선정하여 대상기관의 정밀점검 대상 25개소에 대하여 첨단 점검장비를 활용한 無차단 스마트 점검을 시행할 예정이다. 이를 통해, 구조물 점검원의 안전을 확보하고 정밀점검 신뢰도 향상과 더불어 교통차단에 따른 고객 불편해소가 가능할 것으로 예상된다.
