Antioxidant and Anti-Skin Aging Effects of Rutin Treated by Sub- and Super Critical Water
Yeon Jae Jo,Tae Yong You,Tae Hwan Shin,Heon Sang Jung 한국식품영양과학회 2021 한국식품영양과학회 학술대회발표집 Vol.2021 No.10
This study was conducted to evaluate the antioxidant and anti-skin aging effects of rutin treated by sub- and super-critical water (SW). The ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging activities of the SW treated rutin were increased to 541.86±33.65 and 728.73±1.34 mg AAE/g at 300°C in 100 bar but decreased to 500.78±12.08 and 694.88±4.69 mg AAE/g at 400°C in 250 bar, respectively. Tyrosinase, elastase and collagenase inhibitory activity were the highest value of 57.76±2.28%, 79.65±0.78% and 79.24% at 300°C in 100 bar, respectively but decreased above condition. Astringent activity was highest value of 57.53±2.17% at 300°C in 100 bar. These results was confirm the high antioxidant activities and anti-aging effect of rutin treated with SW and the SW treatment process can be used as a functional compounds development.

Abstract

The biological activities of the ethanol extract from Cirsium japonicum var. maackii (ICF-1) and its major component, polyphenol cirsimaritin, were investigated as part of the search for possible alternative drugs for breast cancer. Three in vitro cell-based assays were used: the cell proliferation assay, tube-formation assay, and Western blot analysis. Both the ICF-1 extract and cirsimaritin inhibited the viability of HUVECs in a dose-dependent manner. The inhibition achieved was 36.89% at a level of 200μg/ml by the ICF-1 extract and 62.04% at a level of 100μM by cirsimaritin. The ICF-1 extract and cirsimaritin reduced tube formation by 12.69% at level of 25μg/ml and 32.18% at the levels of 6.25μM, respectively. Cirsimaritin inhibited angiogenesis by downregulation of VEGF, p-Akt and p-ERK in MDA-MB-231 cells, suggesting that cirsimaritin is potentially useful as an anti-metastatic agent. The present study demonstrated that Cirsium japonicum extract and its active component cirsimaritin is an excellent candidate as an alternative anti-breast cancer drug.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

The Settlement Behavior of Piled Raft Subjected to Vertical Load
Sang Seom Jeong,Jae Yeon Cho 한국지반공학회 2010 international journal of geo-engineering Vol.2 No.3
The settlement behavior of a square piled raft in clay soil was investigated using numerical analysis. The emphasis was on quantifying the reduction of the average and differential settlements in soft clay soils. To obtain the detailed information of piled raft, a nonlinear three dimensional finite element analysis with pile-soil slip interface model was performed for various pile positions, pile numbers and pile lengths under the raft. Based on the results obtained, the settlement aspects for an efficient design of piled rafts subjected to vertical loading are discussed in soft clay case.

Background: The “Tuberculosis Relief Belt Supporting Project (Tuberculosis Patient Management Project for Poverty Groups)” is a national program for socioeconomically vulnerable tuberculosis (TB) patients. We sought to evaluate the clinical and socioeconomic characteristics of poverty-stricken TB patients, and determined the need for relief. Methods: We examined in-patients with TB, who were supported by this project at the National Medical Center from 2014 to 2015. We retrospectively investigated the patients’ socioeconomic status, clinical characteristics, and project expenditures. Results: Fifty-eight patients were enrolled. Among 55 patients with known income status, 24 (43.6%) had no income. Most patients (80%) lived alone. A total of 48 patients (82.8%) had more than one underlying disease. More than half of the enrolled patients (30 patients, 51.7%) had smear-positive TB. Cavitary disease was found in 38 patients (65.5%). Among the 38 patients with known resistance status, 19 (50%) had drug-resistant TB. In terms of disease severity, 96.6% of the cases had moderate-to-severe disease. A total of 14 patients (26.4%) died during treatment. Nursing expenses were supported for 12 patients (20.7%), with patient transportation costs reimbursed for 35 patients (60%). In terms of treatment expenses for 31 people (53.4%), 93.5% of them were supported by uninsured benefits. Conclusion: Underlying disease, infectivity, drug resistance, severity, and death occurred frequently in socioeconomically vulnerable patients with TB. Many uninsured treatment costs were not supported by the current government TB programs, and the "Tuberculosis Relief Belt Supporting Project" compensated for these limitations.

Solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas (SPTP) isa rare primary pancreatic tumor of an unknown etiologythat is usually diagnosed in adolescent girls and youngwomen. Most SPTPs are considered to be benign andonly rarely metastasize. We report here on a 27-year oldwoman with recurrent SPTP with involvement of both thespleen and left kidney at the time of the initial diagnosis, and with aggressive behavior. In July 1995, she wasadmitted with abdominal discomfort and mass. Sheunderwent exploratory laparotomy with distal pancreatectomy, left nephrectomy and splenectomy, and wasdiagnosed with SPTP with invasion to both the spleenand left kidney. In June 2001, she again presented withabdominal pain and was diagnosed as having recurrenceof the tumor. She underwent mass excision and omentectomy. Then she was lost to follow-up. In November2005, she presented once again with an abdominal massand was diagnosed with recurred SPTP, which formed ahuge intraperitoneal mass with peritoneal seeding and thetumor showed multiple metastases in the liver. She iscurrently being treated conservatively. (Cancer Res Treat.2006;38:118-120)
