Alopecia is usually presented as patchy, no scarring hair loss. It seems to be a hormonal imbalance or an immune mediated disease, whereas genetic predisposition, environmental and psychological factors may be involved in its etiology. Many treatments of alopecia disease have been widely applied, but their side effects are also well known. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate efficacy and safety of a food supplement containing medicinal plant extracts, amino acid and vitamin complex on the prevention of hair loss in human. A total of 20 subjects aged between 29-50 years with subjective hair loss complaint were recruited for this study. Each subject took 1 g/day supplement for 3 months. 5-Scale self-assessment test, hair loss count and measurement of hair thickness were conducted to evaluate the effect of supplement on the improvement of hair loss. Subjective hair loss was decreased and hair damage and thickness were improved in self-assessment test. After 3 months of supplementation, hair loss counts were decreased (P<0.05) while hair thickness was increased(P<0.001) significantly. There was no side effect observed during the study. These results suggest that the supplement consist of medicinal plant extracts, amino acid and vitamin complex might be useful for the improvement of hair loss with no significant side effects.

Phenylalanine의 구조유사체인 p-fluotophenylalanine (FPA)은 인체 급성백혈병세포주인 Jurkat T 세포의 세포자살을 유도한다. FPA에 의한 세포자살에 미치는 Bcl-2 또는 Bcl-xL의 영향을 조사하기 위해, Bcl-2 또는 Bcl-xL을 stable transfection하거나 empty vectors만을 Transfection한 Jurkat 세포를 이용하여 FPA의 세포독성과 FPA에 의한 세포내 세포자살 신호전달경로를 비교 분석하였다. Jurkt T 세포에 0.63∼3.0 mLf의 FPA를 처리하였을 때 세포의 생육도는 농도에 비례하여 감소하였다. 또한 세포자살관련 DNA fragmentation, caspase-8 activatoin, Bid cleavage, mitochondria로 부터의 cytochrome c 방출, caspase-9 및 -3 activation, PARP degradation 등이 유도되었다. 한편, FPA에 의해 유도되는 이러한 일련의 생화학적 현상들은 Bcl-2 또는 Bcl-xL의 overexpression에 의해 현저히 저해되었다. 이상의 결과들은 caspase-8 activation, Bid cleavage, mitochondnal cytochrome c 방출에 의해 활성화되는 casuase cascade 등의 현상이, Bcl-2 또는 Bcl-xL에 의해 억제됨을 나타내며 FPA에 의해 유도되는 세포자살에 필요한 과정임을 시사한다. $\rho$-Fluorophenylalanine (FPA), a phenylalanine analog, is able to induce apoptotic cell death of human acute leukemia Jurkat T cells. To better understand the mechanism by which FPA induces apoptotic cell death, the effect of ectopic expression of antiapoptotic proteins, Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL, on FPA-induced apoptosis was investigated by employing lurkat T cells transfected with Bcl-2 gene (JT/Bcl-2) or Bcl-xL gene (1/Bcl-xL) and Jurkat T cells transfected with vector (JT/Neo or J/Neo). When Jurkat T cells, JT/Neo or J/Neo, were exposed to FPA at concentrations ranging from 0.63 to 5.0 mM, the cell viability determined by MTT assay declined in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, apoptotic DNA fragmentation along with several apoptotic events such as caspase-8 activation, Bid cleavage, mitochondrial cytochrome c release, caspase-9 activation, caspase-3 activation, and degradation of PARP was induced. However, the FPA-induced cytotoxic effect, activation of caspase-8, and cleavage of Bid were significantly abrogated by ectopic expression of Bcl-2 or Bcl-xL. At the same time, there was marked reduction in the level of cytochrome c release from mitorhondria, caspase-9 activation, caspase-3 activation, and degradation of PARP. These results indicate that caspase-8 activation, Bid cleavage, and mitochondrial cytochrome c release with subsequent activation of the caspase cascade are negatively regulated by Bcl-2 or Bcl-xL, and are thus required for FPA-induced apoptosis in Jurkat T cells

실리콘(Silicon, Si) 기판과 $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}As$/GaAs 다중 양자 우물(multiple quantum wells, MQWs) 간의 격자 부정합 해소를 위해 $AlAs_xSb_{1-x}$ 층이 단계 성분 변화 완충층(step-graded buffer, SGB)으로 이용되었다. $AlAs_xSb_{1-x}$ 층 상에 형성된 GaAs 층의 RMS 표면 거칠기(root-mean-square surface roughness)는 $10{\times}10{\mu}m$ 원자 힘 현미경(atomic force microscope, AFM) 이미지 상에서 약 1.7 nm로 측정되었다. $AlAs_xSb_{1-x}$/Si 기판 상에 AlAs/GaAs 단주기 초격자(short period superlattice, SPS)를 이용한 $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}As$/GaAs MQWs이 형성되었다. $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}As$/GaAs MQW 구조는 약 10 켈빈(Kalvin, K)에서 813 nm 부근의 매우 약한 포토루미네선스(photoluminescence, PL) 피크를 보였고, $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}As$/GaAs MQW 구조의 RMS 표면 거칠기는 약 42.9 nm로 측정되었다. 전자 투과 현미경(transmission electron microscope, TEM) 단면 이미지 상에서 AlAs/GaAs SPS 로부터 $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}As$/GaAs MQWs까지 격자 결함들(defects)이 관찰되었고, 이는 격자 결함들이 $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}As$/GaAs MQW 구조의 표면 거칠기와 광 특성에 영향을 주었음을 보여준다. The $AlAs_xSb_{1-x}$ step-graded buffer (SGB) layer was grown on the Silicon (Si) substrate to overcome lattice mismatch between Si substrate and $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}As$/GaAs multiple quantum wells (MQWs). The value of root-mean-square (RMS) surface roughness for 5 nm-thick GaAs grown on $AlAs_xSb_{1-x}$ step-graded buffer layer was ~1.7 nm. $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}As$/GaAs MQWs with AlAs/GaAs short period superlattice (SPS) were formed on the $AlAs_xSb_{1-x}$/Si substrate. Photoluminescence (PL) peak at 10 K for the $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}As$/GaAs MQW structure showed relatively low intensity at ~813 nm. The RMS surface roughness of the $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}As$/GaAs MQW structure was ~42.9 nm. The crystal defects were observed on the cross-sectional transmission electron microscope (TEM) images of the $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}As$/GaAs MQW structure. The decrease of PL intensity and increase of RMS surface roughness would be due to the formation of the crystal defects.
표준화된 곰피추출물의 항산화 활성 및 콜레스테롤 개선 효과

본 연구에서는 표준화된 곰피추출물의 항산화 및 콜레스테롤 개선에 대한 효능평가를 통해 건강기능식품 소재로서의 가치를 검토하기 위해 총 폴리페놀, 총 플라보노이드 및 dieckol 함량을 측정하였으며 DPPH, ABTS radical 소거능, reducing power 및 FRAP 활성을 통하여 곰피추출물의 in vitro 항산화 활성을 조사하였고 표준화된 곰피추출물의 HMG-CoA reductase 저해 활성 및 세포 내 콜레스테롤 생성 억제 효능을 평가하였다. 표준화된 곰피추출물의 총 폴리페놀, 총 플라보노이드 및 dieckol 함량은 각각 9.64±0.04 mg GAE/g, 2.72±0.08 mg RE/g, 27.42±0.66 mg/g으로 나타났다. 표준화된 곰피추출물의 in vitro 항산화활성, HMG-CoA reductase 저해활성 및 세포 내 콜레스테롤 생성 억제 효능은 농도의존적으로 증가하는 경향을 보였으며 이는 표준화된 곰피추출물에 함유되어 있는 페놀성 화합물에 기인된 효능으로 사료되며 항산화성분, 항산화 효과, 콜레스테를 개선 효능간의 상관관계가 있음을 확인하였다. 향후, 표준화된 곰피추출물에 대한 in vivo 모델에서의 전임상 연구 및 작용기전 입증되면 인체적용시험을 통해 이중기능성을 갖는 건강기능식품의 개발이 가능할 것으로 사료된다. Ecklonia stolonifera, which belongs to the family Laminariaceae, is an edible perennial brown marine alga that is widely distributed, and is rich in polyphenols, including dieckol. Here, we investigated the radical scavenging activities of E. stolonifera extract (ESE) using various in vitro models. We further evaluated the effect of ESE on the cholesterol secretion inhibition activity in HepG2 cells, as well as the hydroxymethylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase activity. Our results showed that the total phenol, total flavonoid, and dieckol contents of ESE were 9.64±0.04 mg GAE/g, 2.72±0.08 mg RE/g and 27.42±0.66 mg/g, respectively. The antioxidant activity of ESE increased in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, the ESE inhibited cholesterol secretion from HepG2 cells with anti-HMG-CoA reductase activity. These results suggested that ESE possesses antioxidant and anti-cholesterol activities, and can therefore be used as a preclinical bioresource for development of health functional foods.
곰피추출물의 지표성분 Dieckol의 분석법 개선 및 검증

This study was to investigate an analytical method for determining dieckol content in Ecklonia stolonifera extract. According to the guidelines of International Conference on Harmonization. Method validation was performed by measuring the specificity, linearity, precision, accuracy, limit of detection (LOD), and limit of quantification (LOQ) of dieckol using high-performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array. The results showed that the correlation coefficient of calibration curve (R<sup>2</sup>) for dieckol was 0.9997. The LOD and LOQ for dieckol were 0.18 and 0.56 ㎍/mL, respectively. The intra- and inter-day precision values of dieckol were approximately 1.58-4.39% and 1.37-4.64%, respectively. Moreover, intra- and inter-day accuracies of dieckol were approximately 96.91-102.33% and 98.41-105.71%, respectively. Thus, we successfully validated the analytical method for estimating dieckol content in E. stolonifera extract.
기후변화 시각자료에서 나타나는 초등학생의 학업성취도에 따른 안구운동 분석

이 연구는 초등학생의 학업성취도에 따른 기후변화 시각자료에서의 안구운동을 분석한 것이다. 기후변화 교육은 다양한 시각자료를 활용하여 이루어지기 때문에, 안구운동 추적기를 활용한 초등학생의 안구운동분석 결과는 기후변화 교육을 위한 시각자료 선정 및 개발에 기준을 제공할 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 2015 개정교육과정을 비롯한 다양한 기후변화 교육 프로그램에서 활용되고 있는 시각자료를 수집 분석하여 안구운동 측정을 위한 과제를 개발한 후 안구운동을 측정하였다. 서울특별시 소재 초등학교 6학년 학생 29명이 자발적으로 안구운동 측정에 참여하였으며, 학생들이 과제를 수행하는 동안 SMI사의 i View XTM RED를 이용하여 안구운동을 측정했다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 하위집단은 글 시각자료에서 집중적으로 정보 의존도가 높았다. 둘째, 동일한 기능 및 범주 내에서 여러 장의 그림 시각자료를 배치했을 때, 왼쪽에 배치된 그림에서 가장 높은 주의가 발생했다. 셋째, 그래프의 데이터 영역에서 상위집단과 하위집단 모두 높은 주의가 발생했다. 넷째, 제목에 붙어 있는 삽화, 캐릭터 시각자료에 대한 주의는 거의 일어나지 않았다. 응시, 도약 횟수와 속도, 점유도, 시선 흐름 등의 측면에서 분석된 연구 결과는 초등학생을 위한 기후변화 수업의 적합한 시각자료를 선정 개발하는데 시사점을 제공한다. This study is the analysis of eye movements in climate change visual materials according to elementary school students academic achievement. Since Climate change education is based on various visual materials, the results of eye movement analysis of elementary school students by eye movement tracker can provide a basis for selecting and developing visual materials for climate change education. In this study, eye movements were measured by collecting and analyzing the visual data used in various climate change education programs including the 2015 revision curriculum and developing the task for measurement of eye movement. 29 elementary school students in Seoul participated in voluntary measurement of eye movements, and during the course of the task, their eye movements were measured by SMI s i View XTM RED. The results of the study are as follows. First, low achievers were highly dependent on information only in writing materials. Second, when placing multiple pieces of picture visuals within the same function and category, the highest attention occurred in the pictures placed on the left. Third, in the data area of the graph, both groups were highly cautious. Fourth, little attention has been paid to visual illustrations and characters attached to the title. The results of the analysis in terms of fixation, saccade count & velocity, binning chart and scan path provide implications for selecting and developing suitable visual materials for elementary school students.
