        Floristic study of Jang-do (Isl.) in Korea

        We investigated the flora of Jang-do (Isl.), an island of the Heuksan archipelago, located in Heuksan-myeon, Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do and discussed the remarkable plants found there. Thirteen-field trips (total 27 days) were completed from May of 2004 to May of 2013. As a result, we identified the distribution of 423 taxa in Jang-do (Isl.), comprising 104 families, 285 genera, 335 species, 78 varieties and 10 forms. There are a total of 95 taxa of floristic regional indicator plants. The floristic regional indicators are as follows; four taxa of level V such as Impatiens furcillata, four taxa of level IV such as Hosta yingeri, 14 taxa of level III such as Ophioglossum vulgatum, 5 taxa of level II, and 58 taxa of level I. In addition 10 red data plants, 2 vulnerable species (VU) including Calanthe striata for. sieboldii, and 4 least concern species (LC) like Ardisia crenata, 2 not evaluated species (NE) such as Hosta yingeri, were found in the investigated area. An unrecorded species, Fragaria (Rosaceae), was found in a forest of Jang-do (Isl.) for the first time in Korea.

        Metabolic Profiling of Eccentric Exercise-Induced Muscle Damage in Human Urine

        Skeletal muscle can be ultrastructurally damaged by eccentric exercise, and the damage causes metabolic disruption in muscle. This study aimed to determine changes in the metabolomic patterns in urine and metabolomic markers in muscle damage after eccentric exercise. Five men and 6 women aged 19~23 years performed 30 min of the bench step exercise at 70 steps per min at a determined step height of 110% of the lower leg length, and stepping frequency at 15 cycles per min. $^1H$ NMR spectral analysis was performed in urine collected from all participants before and after eccentric exercise-induced muscle damage conventionally determined using a visual analogue scale (VAS) and maximal voluntary contraction (MVC). Urinary metabolic profiles were built by multivariate analysis of principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least square-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) using SIMCA-P. From the OPLS-DA, men and women were separated 2 hr after the eccentric exercise and the separated patterns were maintained or clarified until 96 hr after the eccentric exercise. Subsequently, urinary metabolic profiles showed distinct trajectory patterns between men and women. Finally, we found increased urinary metabolites (men: alanine, asparagine, citrate, creatine phosphate, ethanol, formate, glucose, glycine, histidine, and lactate; women: adenine) after the eccentric exercise. These results could contribute to understanding metabolic responses following eccentric exercise-induced muscle damage in humans.

      • 근세 후기 에도문화의 발전과 도시하층민

        이 글은 문화 제공자 시점에서 근세 후기 에도문화의 발전을 분석한 시도이다. 근세 후기 에도에서는 조닌문화가 크게 발전했다. 무사나 귀족 등과 같은 사회지배층은 물론이고, 특히 도시 생활자인 조닌들이 문화생활에 적극적으로 참여했다. 근세의 사회경제적 발전이 풍요로운 일상생활을 누릴 수 있도록 해준 덕분에 이전보다 많은 사람들이 문화적 혜택을 누릴 수 있었다. 또한 문화매체의 종류가 다양해진 점과 문화 제공자가 증가한 점도 문화 향유층의 폭이 확대된 점과 무관치 않다. 당시의 대표적 번화가 아사쿠사의 경우, 이곳에 다양한 종류의 문화시설과 흥행자들이 있었던 덕분에 아사쿠사를 중심으로 무사에서부터 농민에 이르기까지 사회 모든 계층이 에도문화를 만끽할 수 있었다. 이 글은 이전보다 많은 사람들이 문화적 혜택을 누릴 수 있도록 다양한 종류의 문화적 요소를 생산·제공한 사람들의 시선에서, 그들이 대표적으로 활동한 공간인 아사쿠사를 배경으로 근세 후기 에도문화의 발전이 보이는 바에 주목한다. This thesis analyzes the development of Edo culture(江戶文化) in the late Edo period from the viewpoint of culture provider. Since the late 18th century, the Chonin culture(町人文化) greatly developed in Edo. Not only the social ruling class such as the samurai(武士) and the nobility(公家) but also, in particular, the Chonin(町人), who live in cities, actively participated in the cultural life. Meanwhile, as the kinds of cultural media diversified and the culture providers increased, the class enjoying culture became broader. In case of Asakusa(淺草), the representative Sakariba(盛り場) of Edo(江戶), there were a variety of cultural facilities and show places, all classes from the samurai to the peasantry could enjoy the Edo culture in Asakusa. This thesis pays attention to what the development of Edo culture in the late Edo period shows from the eyes of those who produced and provided various kinds of cultural elements for more people than before to enjoy cultural benefits with Asakusa, which is the representative place where they displayed activities, as the background.

        18~19세기 동·서양 의복에 나타난 여밈의 유형과 조형성

        This study is to research the types and formation of the pieces for fastening the clothing in the western and oriental world from 18c to 19c. The pieces for fastening the clothing, depending on their formation, are classified as the ribbon type, the belt type, the button type, and the compound type. The ribbon type indicates fastening the clothing with the strips attached to the clothes. It is divided into the symmetry type and the asymmetry type by the looks of the ribbon alter it is tied. The belt type means fastening the clothing with a string or a belt, separated from the clothes. It is divided into the string type and the belt type. The button type is to fasten the clothing with buttons, button holes, and hooks. It is divided into the basic type, the wrapping type, and the knot type. The compound type is a mixture of two or three types out of the ribbon type, the belt type, and the button type. The pieces for fastening the clothing has aesthetic features as well as their functional characteristics. It has beautiful features like the harmonious beauty of Yin and Yen shown in the asymmetrical types, the beauty of spell wishing for health, long-life, wealth, wisdom, and so on, the beauty of decency showing the intention of refraining from exposing their body in public, the beauty of eroticism emphasizing the beauty of the human body, and the beauty of representing their social class, authority, affiliation, and so on.

        수산물 중 포름알데히드 함량분석

        수산물 중 포름알데히드 함량 수준을 평가하기 위하여 어류, 패류, 갑각류 및 연체류 14종을 비교 분석하였다. 수산물 중 포름알데히드 함량은 0.07 ㎎/㎏에서 최고 73.74 ㎎/㎏ 수준으로 측정되었다. 어류에서의 함량은 평균 1.29 ㎎/㎏, 패류에서의 함량은 평균 1.70 ㎎/㎏, 갑각류의 경우 평균 7.90 ㎎/㎏으로 어류와 패류에 비교해 유의적으로 높았으며, 특히 꽃게의 경우 최대 73.74㎎/㎏까지 함유되어 있었다. 연체류에서의 함량은 평균 3.06 ㎎/㎏수준으로 평가되었다. 유통형태에 따른 함량에서는 대체적으로 살아있는 상태로 유통되는 활어나 활패의 경우 냉장, 냉동 유통보다 낮은 함량을 보였다. 이는 포름알데히드가 사후에 여러 가지 복잡한 과정을 거쳐서 생성되는 것과 함께 수산물에 특이적인 물질인 TMAO가 사후 효소분해 등의 여러 기작을 통해 DMA와 포름알데히드로 분해되어 증가하기 때문인 것(18-21)으로 사료된다. ‘국민영양조사’와 ‘영양 및 위해평가 시스템 구축’ 연구 보고서를 참고하여 노출량 평가를 한 결과, 대상 수산물에 대한 한국인의 평균 일일 섭취량으로 섭취되는 포름알데히드는 0.070 ㎎/day로 ADI의 0.58% 수준밖에 되지 않았으며, 극단적인 섭취량 평가를 위한 99th 수준에서 섭취되는 포름알데히드는 1.574 ㎎/day로 ADI의 13.12%에 불과하여 안전한 수준이지만, 더 정확한 노출량 평가를 위해서는 다른 수산물을 포함한 식품에 대한 포름알데히드 함량의 조사와 더불어 섭취량 조사 또한 뒷받침되어야 할 것으로 판단된다. In this study, formaldehyde in various fisheries products was previously derivatized with acetylacetone and subsequently analyzed by using HPLC-PDA. The formaldehyde contents ranged from 0.07 to 73.74 ㎎/㎏. The compound was significantly higher in both mollusks (0.34-12.38 ㎎/㎏) and crustaceans (0.09-73.74 ㎎/㎏) than in fish (0.07-3.35 ㎎/㎏) and shellfish (0.50-3.90 ㎎/㎏). This difference was due to storage time and temperature. In general, fish and shellfish are sold live or in refrigerated form with shorter a shelf-life, but mollusks and crustaceans are distributed in cold or frozen systems with a longer shelf-life. Using food intake data from a report of the National Health and Nutrition Survey, the daily human exposure level to formaldehyde was 0.58% of the ADI. The results from this study might provide fundamental information to confirm naturally-originating or fraudulent formaldehyde treatment in fisheries products.
