Purpose: Hemiplegic patients often experience malnutrition and feeding risks due to disabilities and inadequate nursing support; nursing roles regarding mealtime assistance remain unclear in China. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the core knowledge and skills of nursing competency regarding mealtime assistance for hemiplegic patients in China. Methods: A cross-sectional survey of self-administered questionnaire to 640 nurses (response rate: 57.7%) from two tertiary teaching hospitals and two sanatoriums was conducted. Survey content included 25 items regarding the mealtime assistance competency plus 6 items on demographic characteristics. The factor structure of the 25 items was explored and verified by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Its reliability was confirmed by Cronbach's alpha. Results: Three factors including 22 items with a cumulative rate of 60.9% were identified: “Assistance knowledge and skills for acute period”, “Knowledge about assistance and guidance for recovery period,” and “Professional basic knowledge regarding hemiplegia.” Its reliability was ensured with Cronbach's alpha ranging from .86 to .96. In addition, evidence for its construct validity was obtained, as structural equation modeling revealed a good fit to the data within the allowable range based on various fit indices. Conclusion: This study clarified the core knowledge and skills regarding mealtime assistance competency for hemiplegic patients, with “Assistance for acute period” most concerned, followed by “assistance and guidance for recovery period,” and “Professional basic knowledge,” and the latter two need more attention. Obtained results can provide useful evidence for competent nursing practice to improve the quality of mealtime assistance for hemiplegic patients in China.

Ectropis grisescens Warren (Lepidoptera: Geometridae) is an important defoliator pest of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis L. Our previous studies showed that E. grisescens pupae had significantly lower body water content when they pupated in the dry soil (20%-moisture) than those that pupated in the wetter soil (50%- or 80%-moisture). However, it is still unclear whether low-moisture conditions during pupating would further influence the physiological and fitness traits of adults. In the present study, E. grisescens individuals were allowed to pupate in 20%-, 50%- or 80%-moisture soil (silt loam), or in containers without soil (no-substrate conditions) in the laboratory. No significant difference in emergence was detected among different pupating conditions. However, female moths that emerged from 20%-moisture soil had significantly lower body water content compared to 80%-moisture soil, whereas the body water content of males was similar among the four treatments. The paired moths that emerged from 20%-moisture soil laid significantly fewer eggs than those that emerged from 50%- moisture soil. In addition, the number of hatched offerings (larvae) were significantly less when the adults previously pupated in no-soil containers compared to 50%-moisture soil. The longevity of adults was shortest when they emerged from 20%-moisture soil. Our study showed that the no-substrate and low-moisture conditions during pupating adversely affected E. grisescens adults.

In this paper, the distributed H∞ filtering problem is investigated for a class of nonlinear systems over wireless sensor networks (WSNs) with successive packet dropouts (SPDs) and multiplicative noise under an eventtriggered communication mechanism (ETCM). A series of uncorrelated random variables which obey the Bernoulli distribution are used to characterize the induced phenomenon of SPDs occurring in network communication. The ETCM based on the relative error between the estimated signals is introduced to reduce the burden of communication and achieve the purpose of saving network resources. The measurement information on each sensor node can be transmitted to its neighboring nodes only when the certain triggering condition is satisfied. In view of WSNs, a distributed filtering error system model is firstly built to take SPDs together with multiplicative noise into account. Then, sufficient conditions are established to ensure both the prescribed H∞ performance requirement and the filtering error variance constraint over a finite-horizon. Moreover, the design method of filter parameters is given in terms of matrix inequalities. Finally, a numerical example is presented to verify the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed distributed H∞ filters design scheme.

Ectropisgrisescens Warren (Lepidoptera: Geometridae) is one of the most severe defoliating pests of tea plants. Synthetic pesticides have been widely applied to control this pest in tea plantations, but pesticide residues may decrease the quality and safety of tea products. In the present study, we hypothesized that soil treatment with the two commercial biopesticides (Shuiguxin ® ) based on Metarhizium anisopliae (Metchnikoff) Sorokin and Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) could reduce the survivorship and fitness of E. grisescens. Wandering larvae of E. grisescens were allowed to pupate in soil treated with each biopesticide, and the concentrations of M. anisopliae (Shuiguxin ® ) and B. bassiana (Shuiguxin ® ) that produced the 50% mortality values (LC 50 ) were 2.9 × 10 6 and 1.6 × 10 7 conidia/g soil, respectively. Artificial burying the pupae using soil treated with M. anisopliae (Shuiguxin ® ) and B. bassiana (Shuiguxin ® ) (1 × 10 8 or 1 × 10 9 conidia/g soil for both biopesticides) also significantly reduced emergence success of E. grisescens. In addition, choice tests showed that soil treated with the high concentration of M. anisopliae (Shuiguxin ® ) or B. bassiana (Shuiguxin ® ) had repellent effects on pupating E. grisescens. However, sublethal concentrations (LC 25 and LC 50 ) of both biopesticides did not significantly affect fecundity, fertility and longevity of post-emerged adults. Our study showed that soil treatment with the two commercial biopesticides caused direct mortality of pupating E. grisescens, but may not effectively suppress E. grisescens populations at sublethal concentrations. The realistic application of the fungal dosage in fields should be determined in future studies
Impact of playout buffer dynamics on the QoE of wireless adaptive HTTP progressive video

The quality of experience (QoE) of video streaming is degraded by playback interruptions, which can be mitigated by the playout buffers of end users. To analyze the impact of playout buffer dynamics on the QoE of wireless adaptive hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) progressive video, we model the playout buffer as a G/D/1 queue with an arbitrary packet arrival rate and deterministic service time. Because all video packets within a block must be available in the playout buffer before that block is decoded, playback interruption can occur even when the playout buffer is non-empty. We analyze the queue length evolution of the playout buffer using diffusion approximation. Closed-form expressions for user-perceived video quality are derived in terms of the buffering delay, playback duration, and interruption probability for an infinite buffer size, the packet loss probability and re-buffering probability for a finite buffer size. Simulation results verify our theoretical analysis and reveal that the impact of playout buffer dynamics on QoE is content dependent, which can contribute to the design of QoE-driven wireless adaptive HTTP progressive video management.

The PM10, SO₂ and NO₂ mass concentrations were obtained over five years from monitoring stations across Nanchong, a southwest city in China. Changes in urban air quality over time, as well as the factors influencing that change, were evaluated based on air pollutant concentrations, the Air Pollution Index (API), and the Comprehensive Pollution Index (P). The results showed that the total annual mean PM10, SO₂ and NO₂ concentrations over the five years studied were 61.1±1.1, 45.0±3.9 and 34.9±4.9 μg·m-3, respectively. The annual mean concentrations displayed a generally decreasing trend; lower than the annual mean second-level air quality limit. Meanwhile, the annual mean API values were in a small range of 52-53, the air quality levels were gradeⅡ, and P values were 1.06-1.21 less than the slight level (P ≤ 1.31). Total monthly mean PM10, SO₂, NO₂ concentrations, and API and P values were consistently higher in winter and spring than during autumn and summer. The results of a correlation analysis showed that temperature and pressure were the major meteorological factors influencing pollution levels. Pollution sources included industrial coal and straw burning, automobiles exhaust and road dust, fireworks, and dust storms.

Acetoin (AC) is a volatile platform compound with various potential industrial applications. AC contains two stereoisomeric forms: (3S)-AC and (3R)-AC. Optically pure AC is an important potential intermediate and widely used as a precursor to synthesize novel optically active materials. In this study, chiral (3R)-AC production from meso-2,3-butanediol (meso-2,3-BD) was obtained using recombinant Escherichia coli cells co-expressing meso-2,3-butanediol dehydrogenase (meso-2,3-BDH), NADH oxidase (NOX), and hemoglobin protein (VHB) from Serratia sp. T241, Lactobacillus brevis, and Vitreoscilla, respectively. The new biocatalyst of E. coli/pET-mbdh-nox-vgb was developed and the bioconversion conditions were optimized. Under the optimal conditions, 86.74 g/l of (3R)-AC with the productivity of 3.61 g/l/h and the stereoisomeric purity of 97.89% was achieved from 93.73 g/l meso-2,3-BD using the whole-cell biocatalyst. The yield and productivity were new records for (3R)-AC production. The results exhibit the industrial potential for (3R)-AC production via whole-cell biocatalysis.
