<P>We propose a spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) system that uses a single line-scan detection scheme for balanced detection. Two phase-opposed spectra, generated by two optical fiber couplers, were detected by using a spectrometer with fast optical switching. A 2.69 km optical fiber was introduced to provide a proper time delay to prevent phase errors caused by the difference in measurement time between the two opposing spectra and unstable output voltages for controlling the galvano-scanner. Hence, a phase difference of ?? was obtained between the spectra over the sample depth without a phase error, which improved sensitivity by approximately 6 dB compared to that of conventional SD-OCT. We directly showed and compared the OCT images before and after applying the proposed balanced detection method in a phantom and in vivo sample.</P>
Facial Rejuvenating Effects of Mesotherapy Using a New Polycomponent Formulation

Background and Objectives Facial rejuvenation via mesotherapy using a new polycomponent formulation was employed to improve skin texture. In this study, we evaluated the rejuvenating effects of a new polycomponent formulation through mesotherapy using a microneedle therapy system (MTS). Materials and Methods Twenty patients underwent a series of facial procedures, including three sessions performed at 2-week intervals and two sessions at 4-week intervals. Subsequently, 3 mL of new polycomponent formulation was applied to the entire face and MTS was used. Patient satisfaction scoring was conducted by three plastic surgeons who evaluated the improvement of fine wrinkles, skin tightness, hydration, and sweat pore size. In addition, photographs of the patients were taken at each visit and 2 months after the last treatment session. Results The patients were satisfied with the therapeutic outcomes. The scores of the surgeons for the improvement of fine wrinkles, skin tightness, hydration, and sweat pore size were high. Conclusion Minimally invasive mesotherapy using a new polycomponent formulation can improve the clinical appearance of facial skin. However, a largerscale and well-controlled investigation of the clinical efficacy and safety of this technique is needed to confirm these findings.

Dimensionality and bonding characters of Cu2 Si self‑assembled on Si(111)

The electron band structure of single-layer Cu2Si self-assembled on Si(111) has been investigated using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Cu2Si is a two-dimensional (2D) Dirac nodal-line semimetal that is protected by the in-plane mirror refection symmetry. Indeed, the electron band structure of Cu2Si shows non-dispersive states as a function of photon energy, whereas the electron band structure from the substrate shows strong photon energy dependence, supporting the 2D nature of Cu2Si. Polarization dependence shows that the spectral intensity of the electron band structure of Cu2Si is strongly but not completely suppressed when measured using photons with in-plane polarization. These fndings indicate that Cu2Si is deformed along the out-of-plane direction, so that the out-of-plane mirror symmetry becomes important in the topological properties of Cu2Si when it is placed on an Si(111) substrate.
